  • SA Abortion to Birth Community Survey OCTOBER 2020 2
1 SA Abortion to Birth Community Survey OCTOBER 2020 2 ACL SOUTH AUSTRALIAN COMMUNITY SURVEY NOTES The Australian Christian Lobby has surveyed over 1000 voters in State seats to gauge public support for attempts to change the laws in relation to abortion in the state of South Australia. The survey clearly shows that the parliament is acting without the support of the community. MPs who support this proposal are demonstrating how out of touch they are with their electorates and are at increased electoral risk. While the results differ depending on the electorate, there a number of key points that are broadly consistent… ●• In every seat MPs who support late term abortion are likely to lose a substantial number of votes. ●• Across the state, public opinion is overwhelmingly against late term abortion. ●• There is a massive level of support for banning gender selection abortions. ●• In every seat surveyed, there is greater than 50% support for criminalising bullying or coercing a woman to have an abortion. ●• There is NO community consensus on abortion in general. Results show that support ranges from a low of 48% to a maximum of 63%. The ACL is calling on all SA MPs to act in accordance with community expectations and oppose Abortion to Birth. A full copy of the community survey has been sent to all MPs and has been posted on the ACL website. 3 ADELAIDE Rachel Sanderson MP LIBERAL PARTY 291 COMPLETED SURVEYS 61.5% 72.9% less likely to vote for of Liberal voters less likely to an MP who supports support an MP in favour of late term abortion

(Continued from 12 May 2021.) The Hon. S.S. MARSHALL (Dunstan—Premier) (19:31): I rise to speak on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill. I support the second reading of this bill. I have supported legislation for assisted dying when it has been before this house previously. I do so again, not because I would avail myself of such laws but because I do not believe that I can deny other South Australians the right to make that choice. In providing this legal option at the end of a person's life, this bill establishes a range of mandatory protections, approvals and reviews to prevent exploitation. I have every respect for those who do not support voluntary assisted dying. I understand their views and their concerns. I have considered the deep and sensitive moral, ethical, legal, medical and professional considerations associated with this question, but it is also important to recognise that with the passage of these laws we will not be entering on the so-called slippery slope.

  • Andrea Michaels Mp MEMBER for ENFIELD
Andrea Michaels MP MEMBER FOR ENFIELD Newsletter | Spring 2020 Andrea’s Community Update Well hasn’t 2020 thrown a curveball at us? I learnt a new word this year, ‘coronavirus’. Our lives got thrown upside down. Too many lives have been lost; too many families kept apart; and too many people out of work. In many ways though, it has brought people together. The Covid fight is not over and I urge you all to look after yourselves and to look after each other. Covid of course meant a change to how we live and work, and for me, it meant less of being out in the community but more Zoom and other ways of connecting. Thank you to those of you who have come along to virtual street corner meetings and emailed me with your concerns. Despite the challenges, we have still managed to get a lot done. I’ve especially appreciated the community support in fighting the Liberal government’s bus cuts and the Prospect Service SA closure. I’m very happy that those decisions have been reversed. I also had my first anniversary as your local Member of Parliament since my last newsletter. Again, I want to thank you for your support as I look forward to continuing to serve you in any way that I can. Just as this was going to print, it was announced that I was being promoted to What’s Inside SA Labor’s Shadow Cabinet with the portfolios of Small Business and Family Business, Consumer and Business Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development.

Annual Report 2018 2 About the Artwork Puturlu Jukurrpa by artist Grace Napangardi Woods The Purlapurla Jukurrpa (black kite [Milvus migrans Dreaming) is centred on the Kakurtu (Mount Dennison) area. This painting concerns a ‘purlapurla’ ancestral hero who lived there. ‘Purlapurla’ flies high in the sky like the ‘warlawurru’ (wedge-tailed eagle) and perches in the top of trees. The story relates to an incident where Purlapurla had injured his legs and was flying up and down. In paintings of this Jukurrpa, often the hero is indicated by a vertical line or lines in the painting. The Purlapurla Jukurrpa belongs to the Nungarrayi/Napaljarri women and to the Jungarrayi/Japaljarri men. 3 CONTENTS Minutes of 2017 Annual General Meeting _________________ 4 Objects _____________________________________________ 9 Strategic Plan _______________________________________ 10 Chairperson’s Report _________________________________ 12 Executive Director’s report _____________________________ 14 Dashboard __________________________________________ 22 Acknowledgements __________________________________ 23 Treasurer’s report ____________________________________ 25 Board and Staff 2017-2018 _____________________________ 26 Shelter SA Members 2017–2018 ________________________ 27 Quotes from our Stakeholders __________________________ 28 4 MINUTES OF 2017 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 26 October 2017 The Gallery, 30 Waymouth Street, Adelaide The meeting opened at 3.15pm Paul Astley, Shelter SA Chairperson, welcomed members, guests and distinguished guests.
