Fellow Pan Icarians,

I hope everyone had a happy and peaceful holiday All other aspects of your Brotherhood are fine and season. As we turn our attention to the upcoming we are growing. Again we need to help in insuring year we urge all chapters to extend a welcoming that we move ahead in that direction. hand to any new members that may be adrift in a world without the Brotherhood and make efforts to shore up the existing membership. I want to congratulate Governor George Parelemos and his wife Tina for the newest addition to our Brotherhood. We visited Detroit and the Spanos chapter for our first Lodge meeting. I want to thank everyone for making us feel at home, feeding us and allowing us Please contact me at [email protected] with any to participate in the subtle give and take of their questions or comments. friendly repartee.

Thank you all for your support. The hotel that has been chosen is wonderful and we know that Chapter Spanos will be working hard Sincerely, towards a successful and fun filled convention. Emanuel Aivaliotis

I would remind all that our annual Youth conference will be held in Cleveland this year from March 27- 29. Please make plans to have at least one represen- tative from your Chapter attend. Not only is it an informative experience but wonderful opportunities to have our future leaders discuss what they feel regarding the future of our Brotherhood.

As I have in the past, I ask all to help our Founda- tion. This past year our Foundation was not insulated to the economic forces that have wreaked havoc on many funds, suffering a monetary set back that could possibly affect our efforts to afford every Icarian applicant a scholarship. We need now more than ever before to make a financial commitment to the future of our children.

Dear Icarian Friends: February 2009

Greetings from Cleveland. Your brothers and sisters of Pharos want to wish you ×ñüíéá ÐïëëÜ, and a safe, happy, New Year. We are honored to host the 106th Pan Icarian National Convention scheduled for Labor Day week- end, September 4, 2009 to September 7, 2009, at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.

We have a great weekend planned, and look forward to sharing it with you. ÓÜò ÐåñéìÝíïìå!

Cleveland is a fantastic travel destination offering a wide range of activities for all interests. For the young-at- heart, there is a tropical rainforest, a live butterfly habitat, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and sandy beaches (that’s right, beaches) on the shores of Lake Erie. For sophisticates, Cleveland has escorted tours of the city, museums, botanical gardens, a science center, and its own Iron-Chef Restaurant. The Cleveland Indians will also be in town that weekend, playing the Minnesota Twins in what we hope, will be a competition for the Central Division Title. During your stay, you will have access to all of this, and more.

The Renaissance Hotel is Cleveland’s premiere convention facility. You may recall it from your visit in 1997. Rooms are large and clean, and service is impeccable. There are ample meeting rooms and a large ballroom, just perfect for our evening events. Restaurants and shopping are available in the hotel and within easy walking distance. The hotel’s spacious lobby is an ideal gathering place for friends and family.

It is not too early to start your travel plans. To book a room, we recommend you call the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel at (800) 468-3571. Be sure to mention convention code PANIC (no joke) to get the negotiated rate of $149 per night.marriott.com/hotels/travel/clebr-renaissance-cleveland-hotel/

Our convention information center, the Icarian Platea, will be available starting Friday, September 4th at 2:00 P.M. There you will find information on planned activities, coupons for local vendors and attractions, convention memorabilia, and souvenirs. Please see the enclosed schedule of events for specific dates and time.

In keeping with convention tradition, our grand banquet and ball are planned for Sunday evening. Cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a scrumptious dinner, and an evening of music and dancing featuring the band Stigma, accompanied by Ðáíáãéüôçò ÊáñíáâÜò. To purchase tickets for an evening to remember, contact Kathryn Tripodis at [email protected] or (440) 843-7836 or return the enclosed reservation form.

Excited? We are too. We are now accepting Ad Contracts for the 106th Commemorative Album. Post your advertisement, commemorative item, or warm greeting to friends and family. All entries in good taste are welcome. To purchase ad space complete and return the enclosed Ad Contract. Be sure to reserve your spot early, while space remains available.

Coming soon, for the latest information on the 106th Supreme Convention, visit our website at pan-icarian.com/~pharos/. Convention details will be posted on March 1, 2009 and updated frequently thereafter.

ÓÜò ÐåñéìÝíïìå!

On January 24th, Helios held our 32nd Annual Dinner Dance Glendi. This year, we moved the dance to the beautiful Spanos-Pappas Community Center of Tarpon Springs. Nearly 400 persons enjoyed the delicious buffet dinner and danced to the music of Bobby Koulaxizis, with guest Leonidas Tsantiris on violi.

During the past year, Helios Chapter has tried to become involved in more philanthropic activities. In addition to supporting our Brotherhood’s Foundation, we have approved donations to support the Holy Trinity Greek School, the Orthodox Choir of Tampa Bay, as well as other local charities such as Helping Hands, and RCS. During the past few months, Helios Chapter was sad- dened by the loss of Vonda Tsarnas, wife of Nick, and the loss of Steve Binikos, brother of Supreme Vice President Sonja Stefanadis. Also, we lost Andreana Kopelakis, sister of Eva Rossi, and Alfredo Granaiola, son–in-law of Chrisoula Poulianos. May their memory be eternal. We were very happy however to congratulate Sophia Tsantes on her marriage to Rocky Brandon. Projects for the near future include possibly building a float to participate in the Annual Greek Independence Day Parade in Tarpon Springs in March.
