Worship is at the heart of who we are as a congregation, and music is a vital part of our worship — calling us into God’s presence, enabling us to express our deepest hopes and longings, and helping us to find peace in the midst of the busy-ness of life. Please know that you always are welcome at Peachtree Road. As we begin a new concert season in this great church, I hope you will find yourself returning often to this beautiful Sanctuary to experience the music of the Great Organ and the countless artists who perform here as we worship and express our faith. We have been blessed with a truly magnificent space and it’s only right that equally exquisite music goes in it. Our success depends largely on our generous donors and many concert attendees, so I invite you to join us in supporting this very important series. We continue to build the patronage of our Friends of Music Program. Through the generosity of our members, we have brought you nationally and internationally renowned artists that we’ve never had before — including The Tallis Scholars and Chanticleer. BURNETT ARTISTIC DIRECTOR ...you’d be hard pressed to find a choir that creates a lovelier sound. -American Record Guide Signature concert of the season sponsored by the PRUMC Friends of Music FFriendsM of Music RACHMANINOFF ALL-NIGHT VIGIL Sunday, September 29, 7:00 pm, Sanctuary Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil is contemplative, intense, and overwhelmingly devotional. An other- worldly spectrum of religious sensibility, there isn’t another work like it in the choral repertoire. Comprising some of the finest ensemble and solo singers in the country, Kinnara is one of the nation’s premier professional chamber choirs. Under the direction of J.D. Burnett, who also serves as Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Georgia, the choir performs a wide variety of standard choral repertoire from all eras. Kinnara strives to honor the capacious choral tradition with exemplary choral experiences that speak to the modern soul. General Admission: $30 in advance / $35 day of concert Students: $18 in advance / $20 day of concert | Advanced tickets at www.prumc.org/events. 2 3 THE ATLANTA CHAMBER PLAYERS 10.13 The Atlanta Chamber Players Sunday, October 13, 3:00 pm, Moore Chapel Founded in 1976 as a mixed ensemble of strings, winds, and piano, the Atlanta Chamber Players have earned a national reputation as a pioneer among chamber groups and are widely respected as a cultural treasure in the Southeast. This program features the Robert Schumann Piano Quartet and Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of her birth, along with a short work by local Atlanta composer Tommy Joe Anderson featuring Laura Ardan, ASO principal clarinetist. The mix of old and new and a variety of strings, winds, and piano will delight. Carols from the gallery will be sung by the Georgia Boy Choir before the concert. This concert will open your hearts and souls to the miraculous story of Jesus’ birth. Tickets are complimentary but necessary for seating. Tickets will be available beginning Sunday, November 24. Childcare available for ages 4 and younger by reservation only. CHRISTMAS WITH THE GEORGIA BOY CHOIR 12.20 & 21 Christmas with the Georgia Boy Choir Friday, December 20 & Saturday, December 21, 7:00 pm, Sanctuary David R. White, conductor The Atlanta Holiday Season isn’t complete without this PRUMC favorite! Come hear all five levels of the Georgia Boy Choir as they offer an unforgettable holiday concert. Choristers will perform sacred classics, Christmas carols, and all your holiday favorites. Don’t forget Atlanta’s largest performance of The Twelve Days of Christmas with all the audience participating! Accompanied by a full orchestra and the incomparable Scott Atchison on the Great Organ of PRUMC, this Christmas tradition is sure to fill you and your family with cheer! Atlanta Chapter of the Chorister’s Guild Friday, January 17, 7:00 pm, Sanctuary 2020 Emily Floyd, Eric Nelson, Lynn Urda, conductors, Scott Atchison, organ The Chorister’s Guild celebrates their anniversary with a Hymn Festival featuring The Atlanta Master Chorale, The Gwinnett Young Singers, and The Shallowford Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir. Susan Bishop, director 3.15 | DISNEY CLASSICS Peachtree Road has a rich history in prison ministry having served our incarcerated brothers and sisters through mentoring, tutoring, and leading support groups and Bible studies for over a decade. This 42 member choir has inspired us with their 3.29 | PASSION OF THE CHRIST extraordinary faith and voices for many years, and we are honored to host their concert at PRUMC. White, conductor The Georgia Boy Choir Festival brings all five levels of the Georgia Boy Choir, various visiting Choirs, and dozens of local singers to Peachtree Road for a weekend of beautiful music making! The Festival concludes with The Georgia Boy Choir Festival Grand Finale Concert featuring the Georgia Boy Choir, plus performances by the various Choirs attending, and all of the participants singing as one tremendous Festival Choir! CORO VOCATI: THE ART AND THE ARTIST 2.2 Coro Vocati: The Art and the Artist Sunday, February 2, 3:00 pm, The Moore Chapel John Dickson, conductor Coro Vocati is a group of professional singers based in Atlanta, called to create music at the highest level of choral artistry. Coro Vocati serves as a master class for singers and an inspiration for audiences. Recently, the group performed at the 2018 Southern Division American Choral Directors Association Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2019, Coro Vocati was the first professional choir in Georgia to perform the critically-acclaimed piece, Considering Matthew Shepard. $15 suggested donation / $5 for students. | Visit www.corovocati.com. RISING STARS! EASTMAN ORGANISTS’ RECITAL 2.11 Rising Stars! Eastman Organists’ Recital Tuesday, February 11, 7:00 pm, Sanctuary We enter our fifth year of collaboration with the Eastman School of Music, the premier music school in the U.S.
