LAST MEETING WITH NOTRE DAME SOUTH BEND, IN – Opening up their Atlantic Coast Conference slate against the defending national champions and No. 2 team in the nation, Notre Dame, the women’s basketball team (9-6, 0-1 ACC) suffered a 100-44 defeat in front of 8,566 fans at the Purcell Pavilion.

Danielle Garven was able to open the scoring for the Panthers on the first possession of the game but the Fighting Irish then took control, running out to a 13-2 lead that forced Pitt to use their first timeout of the game. Senior Cassidy Walsh gave the Panthers a little spark over the final four minutes of the quarter as she netted back-to-back triples as the teams went to the second quarter with the Fighting Irish leading Pitt 32-10.

The defending national champions then took control of the game in the second quarter after Jasmine Whitney opened the scoring in the quarter with a runner in the lane. The Fighting Irish used a 21-0 run over the next three minutes to extend their lead out to 60-14 at halftime.

The Notre Dame offense continued their high energy attack in the third quarter as the Panthers were limited to 10 points in the quarter. Garven was able to score five points in the quarter while Kauai Bradley netted her first triple of the game as the Panthers entered the final 10 minutes trailing 85-24.

The panthers never gave up on Thursday night as they were able to outscore the Fighting Irish over the final 10 minutes of the game, 20-15. Whitney opened the scoring with five straight while Kalista Walters netted back-to- back and Kyla Nelson drilled a pair of triples as Notre Dame came away with the 100-44 victory.

Whitney led the way for the Panthers with nine points, four assists and two steals while Bradley finished off her night with eight points and Garven netted seven in the loss. Walters had a strong game off the bench as she grabbed a team-high nine rebounds (five offensive) and four points across 18 minutes of work.

For his standout coaching efforts during the 2016-17 season, White was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Assistant Coach of the Year.

White helped FSU reach new levels of success and brought an infec- tious energy to the program. He directed the Seminole defense and offense during his tenure in addition to being one of the country’s top recruiters.

Florida State captured back-to-back regular season ACC co-titles in 2010 and 2011, and advanced to the 2010 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. After serving as assistant coach for the first nine seasons in Tallahassee, White was promoted to associate head coach in ad- vance of the 2012-13 campaign.

Prior to FSU, White spent spent 11 seasons at Texas Tech, includ- ing five years as an assistant coach with the Lady Raiders’ top-10 program under legendary head coach Marsha Sharp. With White on staff, Texas Tech won three Big 12 championships and advanced to seven consecutive NCAA Tournaments, including five Sweet 16 and two Elite Eight appearances. He was a student assistant on Tech’s 1993 national championship team and a graduate assistant coach for two seasons before being elevated to a full-time coach in 1998.

While in Lubbock, White worked with some of the best players the game has ever seen, including National Player of the Year and three-time WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoopes as well as Plenette Pierson, who was named 2007 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year.

A 1996 graduate of Texas Tech, White earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science. He went on to receive a master’s degree in sports administration in August 1998. He attended Lub- bock Christian University for three semesters before transferring to Texas Tech in January 1993.

He is married to the former Melanie Smith. The Whites are the proud parents of Quentin and Vivian.
