2484 RCoverage LAST UPDATE: 2019.06.07 Research Coverage Report by Shared Research Inc. | www.sharedresearch.jp Executive summary Business overview ◤ Corporate mission: The name “Yume no Machi Souzou Iinkai” (“Committee to Create a Dream Town”) incorporates the concept of the desire to offer innovative services. President Nakamura explains the company’s mission of expanding earnings while creating new socially beneficial systems: “We want our employees to experience the struggles and joys of starting up a business and grow while providing satisfaction to many people.” ◤ Demae-can business: The company core is food delivery platform Demae-can, contributing 75% of revenue and 80% of operating profit in FY08/18. It provides e-commerce websites and operating platforms that enable food delivery in just 20 minutes. The company has succeeded in creating a win-win situation for affiliated restaurants and customers. The restaurants have more cost-effective sales promotion than traditional flyers, and restaurant customers can choose from an array of menus. The company receives order processing fees (not gross merchandise volume) from affiliated restaurants which form the bulk of its revenue. ◤ Outsourced delivery: The company started offering full-fledged outsourced delivery services (Sharing Delivery®) for restaurants without their own delivery capabilities from FY08/17. It thinks that the number of potential affiliates will increase from 30,000 to 600,000 as a result. Affiliates that did not previously have their own delivery infrastructure receive increased revenue from offering home delivery, and consumers have more choices than before. The company is primarily using affiliates’ premises to grow the number of Sharing Delivery® bases, but is also unrolling some directly operated locations to obtain first-mover advantage. ◤ KPIs: The company focuses on three key performance indicators: order numbers, affiliate numbers, and active user numbers. Growth in order numbers flows directly through to revenue, while the numbers of affiliates and active users underpin growth in order numbers. Further, as the rollout of the Sharing Delivery® business accelerates, the number of sharing delivery bases is also becoming an important indicator. ◤ Competitors: In the US, Grubhub, Inc. (NYSE: GRUB) has the same business model as the company, while in Japan direct competitors include Uber Eats and Rakuten Delivery (Rakuten, TSE1: 4755). Following the sale of its overseas subsidiary, the company only operated in the domestic market from September 2018 onward. Trends and outlook ◤ FY08/18 results: Revenue JPY5.4bn (up 9.8%, +JPY487mn YoY), operating profit JPY837mn (+4.6% YoY), and net income attributable to owners of parent JPY558mn (+29.1% YoY). In the core Demae-can business, revenue was JPY4.1bn (+16.5% YoY) and operating profit JPY863mn (+1.1% YoY). Success in boosting repeat order rate drove growth in order numbers and order processing fees. KPIs: order numbers, 23.32mn (+35.0% YoY), affiliates,

Oct. 18 (Sun) to 22 (Thu), 2015 No.15-206 Kyoto, Japan The 8th International Conference on Leading Venue | Kyoto Research Park Edge Manufacturing in 21st Century (LEM21) Sponsored by : The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) Conference Program Organized by : Manufacturing and Machine Tool Division Welcome to LEM21 Kyoto Dear Colleagues, Friends, and those who visit us for the first time. On behalf of conference chairs and the organizing committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the eighth International Conference on Leading Edge Manufacturing in the 21st Century (LEM21), to be held on October 18-22, 2015, in Kyoto, Japan. The conference of LEM21 is organized and sponsored by the Manufacturing and Machine Tool Division of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME). The first LEM21 conference was successfully held in 1997 in Tokyo, and followed by the second in Niigata in 2003, the third in Nagoya in 2005, the fourth in Fukuoka in 2007, the fifth in Osaka in 2009, the sixth in Saitama in 2011, and the seventh in Matsushima in 2013, respectively. Kyoto is well-known as the former imperial capital of Japan for more than a thousand years, and also known for the international agreement linked to the United Nations framework convention on climate change (Kyoto protocol). It may not be known that this old city has been an incubation for high-tech companies. For example, electric-parts companies come from ceramic industries that have been producing traditional potteries known as “Kiyomizu yaki”. Manufacturing technology has been finding new things in old things and the collaboration between manufacturing communities has played an important role.

This is why, as the President of FEW, I encourage other businesswomen in Japan to support this cause and to help find Lindsay's suspected killer. —Julia Maeda President, Foreign Executive Women Twenty-two-year-old Lindsay Ann Hawker was teaching English in Japan when she was brutally murdered at the end of March this year. She was last seen with 28-year-old Tatsuya Ichihashi and her body was discovered on the balcony of his flat in Tokyo. He remains the Japanese police's only suspect and as we go to print, has still not been found. In support of Lindsay’s family and the Japanese police in their hunt for this man, Being A Broad has launched a t-shirt campaign. We hope that enough people—men and women, Japanese and foreign—will wear this t-shirt or one of our bags, so that this man’s face is seen by as many people as possible in Japan, on a daily basis. The Japanese words roughly translate to “Until this man is caught, I won’t sleep at night”, which can be interpreted in many ways: perhaps you are that bit more nervous at night knowing this man has not been caught; perhaps you are a father and worried about your daughter; perhaps you are a husband and worried about your wife; perhaps you want to make a statement against all violent crime against women.
