DOI: 10.2478/jwld-2019-0060. Abstract Drought is one of the important phenomena resulting from variability and climate change. It has negative effects on all economic, agricultural and social sectors. The objective of this study is to rapidly detect climate dryness situations on an annual scale at the Mellah catchment (Northeast Algeria) for periods ranging from 31 years through the calculation of: the standardized precipitation index (SPI), the standardized Streamflow index (SSFI), the standardized temperature index (STI). Calculations made it possible to locate periods of drought more precisely by their intensity, duration and frequency, and detect years of breaks using the tests of Pettitt, rang, Lee and Heghinian, Hubert and Buishand. The use of the statistical tests for the rainfall series analyzed show all breaks, the majority of which are in 1996/1997 and 2001/2002. For the tem- peratures the breaks are situated in 1980/1981. Key words: drought, drought break, drought index, humidity, Mellah catchment INTRODUCTION According to AOUN SEBAITI [2010], Algeria's water resources are currently relatively well known, but the According to SVOBODA et al. JACCON. Code : 1': INTRODUCTION ..

Various types of cheese produced from raw and pasteurized milk are known worldwide. In the present work, we are interested in studying the effect of the type of milk (raw and pasteurized) of two species (cow and goat) on the yield and physicochemical characteristics of the fresh cheese. In the northeastern Algeria, on 5 cow farms and 3 goat farms; 5 raw and 5 pasteurized milk cheese manufacturing trials were conducted. The analysis of the results of the 80 samples of milk and cheese of both cow and goat species showed that the latter contained significantly more fat and protein than cow’s milk and that pasteurized milk contained more protein than raw milk. As a result, actual cheese yield of goat cheese was higher than that of cows in pasteurized and raw milk. For higher yield, our result supported the use of pasteurized milk as a raw material in the manufacture of farmhouse cheese. Keywords: cheese yield; manufacturing; pasteurized; raw milk; livestock. Practical Application: For cheese-making under small scale using milk from cow or goat: pasteurization can increase actual cheese yield. 1 Introduction In Algeria, as in all regions of the world, consumption of have been attributed to several indigenous microbiota, such dairy products like cheeses is an old tradition linked to livestock as Lactococcus spp., Lactobacillus spp., Leuconostoc spp., and farming, since dairy products are made using ancient artisanal Enterococcus spp.

Abstract Algeria is amongst the African countries most affected by climate change impacts especially by drought which caused considerable economic losses in the past decades. In this paper, drought monitoring for the period between 1970 and 2011 was conducted in the Seybouse watershed by analysing annual rainfall data in terms of variability and trends along with the calculation of the standardized precipitation index (SPI).

  • Long-Term Water Demand Assessment Using Weap 21: Case of the Guelma Region, Middle Seybouse (Northeast Algeria)
Geographia Technica, Vol. 16, Issue 2, 2021, pp 69 to 79 LONG-TERM WATER DEMAND ASSESSMENT USING WEAP 21: CASE OF THE GUELMA REGION, MIDDLE SEYBOUSE (NORTHEAST ALGERIA) Essia BOUDJEBIEUR1* , Lassaad GHRIEB 2 , Ammar MAOUI 3 , Hicham CHAFFAI1 , Zine Labidine CHINI4 DOI: 10.21163/GT_2021.162.06 ABSTRACT: The Guelma sub-basin, an integral part of the Middle Seybouse basin, covers a surface area of 818 km2, subject to subhumid climate. The main surface water reservoir is the Bouhamdane dam with a regulated volume of 55 hm3. The main underground reservoirs are found in the aquifer systems of the Guelma plain, the Bouchegouf plain, the H’lia water table and the Heliopolis karst. To enable the rational use of water resources in the study region, integrated management of these resources remains essential. In this work we used WEAP 21 software (Water Evaluation and Planning), for the modeling of water resources, considering the year 2017 as the reference year for 2020-2050, with a base scenario «water demand”. The results of the simulation show a significant water shortage of around 50.5 hm3, marking a scarcity of the resource, noticed from the reference year 2017, because of the unfavorable climatic conditions which significantly impacted the water reserve in the municipalities of the watershed. This shortage will decrease to a volume of 31 hm3 in 2024, and 104.20 hm3in 2050. Key-words: water resources, integrated management, Middle Seybouse basin, climate change, WEAP21, water demand 1. INTRODUCTION The discussion of aspects of the integrated water resources management is one of the major problematics raised in Algeria today.
