It was her first big international race and her 18 th place was a competitive performance. Dogged by health issues earlier in the year, she bounced back in the best possible way, doing a 28 sec PB on the track in Oregon. She has a big future and this should give her the confidence to kick on. Tayla (173) shares the lead early in the World Junior 10,000m walk in Eugene last Wednesday (photo www.athletics org.au) WHAT'S COMING UP Next Sunday sees our major Victorian roadwalk championships for the winter. Lyn was last year's IAAF Masters Athlete of the Year and she is right on target for a repeat performance in 2012! This week we see even more outstanding performances. Here is my short list – you can read all about them later in the newsletter. • 38 year old walker Kelly Ruddick raced at Lakeside Stadium on Saturday in the Australian Racewalking Series Final and she was in outstanding form, recording a PB of 22:18.00 for the 5000m walk. I can do no better than quote from Russ Dickenson's email: Hi Tim If I can make a suggestion for walker of the week I would nominate Kelly Ruddick. Kelly sat behind Claire Tallent all the way on Saturday to only finish some 10 metres back. It was an inspiring performance for those who watched it, a mum who is outside the system matching it with an Olympian. No offence intended to Claire who walked beautifully, but Kelly was just sensational. Regards Russ • 43 year old Michelle Thompson was in record breaking form on the weekend at the Australian Centurions 24 Hour Walk.

And what's more, she did it effortlessly, finishing with a full head of steam. Regan, on her way to her emphatic time in the LBG 20 Miler in Canberra - pictured with coach Brent Vallance This week I have proposed two of our top walkers for consideration, both for wonderful performances last weekend. • Claire Tallent came a fine third in the latest IAAF Race Walking Challenge event in Sesto San Giovanni in Italy last Sunday. Walking in scorching temperatures which peaked at 34oC, she made the pace early on to record yet another Olympic A qualifier with her time of 1:32:30. She is indeed in the best form of her life ahead of the London Olympics. • Peter Bennett is well known as the President of QRWC but he is also our top ultra distance walker and he proved it again last weekend with a comprehensive victory at the Rouen 24 Hour event in France.

That led to one of the rare perfect-score wins in Athlete Of The Year voting history. This year the 23-year-old Kenyan didn’t set any WRs and even lost a race. But he nonetheless repeated as the men's AOY. Rudisha’s share of the points pie was the lowest in many years as no fewer than 6 athletes received men- tion as a No.

  • ATFS Bulletin 1/2018
ATFS BULLETIN Association of Track and Field Statisticians 2/2018 - June 2018 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Dear All, The 2018 Annual has been published and mailed and should be in your possession shortly, if not already. Once again thanks to Jonas Hedman for doing all the mailing and of course to Peter Matthews for doing the hard work as he does each year. Thanks to all those who do contribute as well. We are very fortunate that the IAAF continue to purchase the bulk of the copies and we are very grateful to them. Work continues on the 1900 – 1920 project. We have had more people contributing with results from that era. It is time consuming for the continuous checking and dou- ble checking but our co-ordinator Tomas Magnusson continues to do a fantastic job. Work also continues on the 1940’s project by Richard Hymans and Pino Mappa. Please help if you have material to add. Thanks to those who responded to help with the world women’s rankings 1974 – 1978. Hopefully I can get started fairly soon as I gather material now that I have fin- ished work on the 2018 Commonwealth Games which went extremely well this year. Our secretary Michael plans on some updates to the website which he will expand upon. I have asked in the past and I will continue to do so. Could you please update your profiles and add a photo on our website. Winfried Kramer has published his National Athletic Records for all countries and he has also updated the finals results of recent World Championships and Olympic Games after a large number of drug suspensions.
