Welcome to UNICA How to reach UNICA The city of Cagliari Cagliari is the political, administrative, economic and cultural centre of Sardinia. Inhabited ever since prehistoric times the city sums up the entire history of the island, struggled over by Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Pisans, Aragonese and Savoyards. It is of Phoenician-Punic origin (Karalis) and there are still some imposing Roman ruins to be seen today. Cagliari – Castello “the Old Town” Built on seven hills that identify other city districts (Castello, Tuvu Mannu, Tuvixeddu, Monte Claro, Monte Urpinu, Bonaria, San Michele), the city has its originary nucleus in Castello district, the highest point of the city overlooking the surrounding area. Cagliari – Poetto, the beach Seven Kilometres of white sandy beach inside the city, the favourite destination for every native of Cagliari - “Cagliaritani” - for a break all year around. Cagliari is city of angels, full of coulor, sound, taste and life The Gulf of Angels a city suspended among sky, earth and water. Water in Cagliari is not only the sea. You can find the list here: http://www.unica.it/pub/english/ No formal proof of language competence is currently required in Italian Language. However, students taking courses in English should have a proficient knowledge of both written and spoken English ( level B1) UNIVERSITY LANGUAGE CENTRE Our University Language Centre (CLA) organises courses in: Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Italian as a foreign language. The courses are held by professional teachers, native speakers of the language, who use advanced technology in order to develop the students’ skills further; this includes audio, video, computing materials, audio-active laboratories and a multimedia laboratory with self-learning facilities. Italian Language Course The University of Cagliari, in collaboration with the University Language Centre, offers Italian Language Courses to its Erasmus foreign students. Courses are held at the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo. UNICA organizes Italian Language Courses for students interested in attending a 10 week course in 5 levels: elementary and intermediate : A1 - A2- B1- B2 – C1(60 hours each – 6 ECTS credits). Each year the University of Cagliari organizes an Italian Summer School, in July and September each course lasts 40 hour in total. The language courses are available for the following levels: A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 Libraries at UNICA The University Library was founded in 1792. With a collection of hundreds of manuscripts, thousands of autograph letters and a rich collection of works of the XVI and XVII centuries and its beautiful XVII century hall the Library is one of the most important of the island. All Faculties, Institutions and Departments of this University have their own libraries, where students can find publications, books, reviews and microfilms on specific subjects. Information on opening times can be obtained from the respective Faculties, Institutions and Departments or in the website at http://www.unica.it/sba/biblioteche/orari.php Sports Facilities There are a number of gyms in Cagliari offering a variety of sports activities from body building to dance, from volleyball to swimming; just look around for the one which is closest to you. If you enjoy football, Cagliari is the place for you because it hosts some of the most famous football clubs in Italy as Cagliari Football Club plays in the Campionato Serie A, the major league in Italy. The University of Cagliari also has a sports centre: the C.U.S. or Centro Universitario Sportivo (University Sports Centre). ENJOY CASTEDDU PLACEMENT Every faculty organizes internship programmes at local businesses and institutions, which puts a student’s educational training into practice and gives EXCHANGE students the opportunity to acquire specific skills on their field of study. The internship will be recognized with credits as an integral part of the Transcript of Records ESN The Erasmus Student Network is made of volunteers, students of the University of Cagliari and ex-Erasmus students.
