Thor Aksdal rated it really liked it Jan 29, Kyle Berk rated it it was amazing Aug 29, In June , at Wizard World, Philadelphia, Ennis announced several new projects, including a metaseries of war comics called Battlefields from Dynamite made up of mini-series including Night Witches, Dear Billy and Tankies, another Chronicles of Wormwood mini-series and Crossed both at Avatar, a six-issue miniseries about Butcher from The Boys and a Punisher project reuniting him with artist Steve Dillon subsequently specified to be a weekly mini-series entitled Punisher: War Zone, to be released concurrently with the film of the same name. His campaign will take him south of the border and to the edge of the bayou, where a service station stop leads to a world of unspeakable horror. Other books in the series. So you can obviously guess the violent insanity that happens subsequently. The Marvel Knights era of Punisher comes to an explosive close! You will find that some of the scenes from these issues will be indelibly burnt into your memory as it dawns on you that you've probably just read a story that defies any and all expectations you might have had of a comic book, a story unlike no other you have ever read before, and one that you will never forget. He goes by the name of Barracuda. Even after reading this. Log in Sign up. Sep 28, Donald rated it really liked it. Great art and violent storytelling makes for an amazing read. Other Editions 1. Other Editions 2. To have it as the first story it almost made me want to stop reading for a bit. It begins with the "Mother Russia" story, which sees Castle on a rare mission to save a kidnapped little girl from a silo in Russia, a girl who happens to be carrying a deadly retrovirus in her bloodstream. And the art, by Parlov is slightly cartoony and my favorite from this volume. I loved this collection. Archived from the original on And Garth Ennis shows you exactly how hot he can make that fire burn. Forrest rated it liked it Sep 21, Thanks for telling us about the problem. I think I know what he was going for. Shop Our Brands. It's the Punisher, taken to the MAX! Lists with This Book. Now, "Widowmaker" has a clever concept that lent to great storytelling. Punisher Max: the Complete Collection Vol. 3: Vol. 3 Writer I agree to the Terms and Conditions. I'm going to need to take a break from this series for a while. First one is Mother Russia, which is mostly about Fury sending Frank into Russia to retrieve something or someone and lots of twist and turns. It has a bunch of twists and a devastating, powerful ending that I didn't see coming. This is the Punisher in all his glory, written by the kind of writer who I think truly gets this character. One has lost control of his terrifyingly overactive sex-drive, and the other might just be a murderer. Read It. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. Graphic Novels Comics. Your question required. This is an older, more grizzled Frank Castle. Grim and dark Part of what makes this story so compelling is how it contrasts Frank with two people - the sister, Jenny, and a detective close to breaking - who similarly disfavor the limits of the law. Other editions. The Boys: Get Some. So this is broken into 3 different arcs. Doug Braithwaite Illustrations ,. As such, it is not your everyday Punisher story, but Ennis makes it work tremendously well. And this is well written and the art is all really good. Before the night is through, she'll teach the Punisher a bit about the art of vengeance. Then Frank faces the fury of five women scorned. The Punisher Vol. However, Fisk's secretary calls and informs him that one man refuses to have his appointment cancelled. Also the second I have said it before, and will say it again, Garth Ennis is born to write Frank Castle comics, this third collection contains 3 trades, Barracuda about a ruthless badguy almost as bad as the Punisher himself, The Man Of Stone about a old russian general and nemesis of Frank Castle, and Widowmaker about 5 maffia widows who want to kill the Punisher for killing their husbands. In another, a pistol is disassembled in a manner that no modern pistol comes apart. There is a depth to these stories that brings consequences to light. Jan 10, Tara rated it really liked it Shelves: comics. Select Option. Refresh and try again. And finally we get to "The Slavers," the best story in the collection and considered by many to be one of the best Punisher stories ever written, where Frank stumbles onto a sex trade operation in New York and decides that he can''t stand around and do nothing about it. While he's still definitely in the forefront, each story is usually less about Marvel struck real gold with this Punisher Max series by Garth Ennis and this third collection continues the awesome! Physically outmatching in Castle in spectacular fashion, he makes for a great antagonist. Sort order. NOOK Book. And the art, by Parlov is slightly cartoony and my favorite from this volume. It's gross. The Boys Vol. And how does the Hulk figure in to it all? Garth Ennis. The first issue ends with him finding out why and each issue in this stroy ends perfectly in some very iconic pages. The art is perfect. We revisit his past with the issues against the Russians in the 2nd. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Error rating book. Oct 28, Ben rated it liked it. Now I've gone for many paragraphs without mentioning the art teams. Punisher Max: the Complete Collection Vol. 3: Vol. 3 Reviews The positive depiction of Detective Budiansky isn't enough to redeem it. It's to Ennis' credit that he can so naturally write pitch black noir and funny crime capers in the same series. View 2 comments. Finally, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's sequel to their classic "Welcome Back, Frank" sees the resurrection of Ma Gnucci turn the Punisher's world into a war zone - which is just the way he likes it! Holy fuck. Enlarge cover. Through this grisly story, we explore the damage that vengeance can have on the psyche, how the Punisher's violence affects other people, and the question of whether he really is doing any good. Since then, well, let's just say Zakharov's not the type to forgive and forget. This entire book shows the twisted sense of a moral code that Castle has. We revisit his past with the issues against the Russians in the 2nd. It also has the best ending so far. I loved this collection. Weakest Volume in series so far. He goes up against Barracuda which is his equal in many ways. The last story arc involves sex trafficking which is a pretty dark topic, and he takes on the group that organises this. Nothing really sticks with you after reading it, it doesn't feel like it is building to much, and Frank feels like just a background character in his own book. You must be logged in to write a review for this comic. Maybe especially after reading this. More filters. There Can't say I can recommend this to most people. This is a solid Punisher volume, to be sure. The story of the girls, the two well- meaning uniform cops, the nasty villains, and the morally-torn social worker are all richly-written and really make this story stand out. Other Editions 3. As an Afghanistan combat veteran myself, I appreciated how much research Ennis did in regards to military operations, strategy, equipment and culture. Watson rated it it was amazing Jan 14, And it's all topped off with a powerful ending. More excellence Ennis and his bullpen of artists strike again. This volume doesn't add much to the way the story is told, but is thematically consistent with the first. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. He shoots people. Might just have to track down copies of Fury Max after reading these. More excellence Ennis and his bullpen of artists strike again. Another fantastic volume of Punisher Max. NOOK Book. It's definitely the weakest Punisher story that I have read so far.

Crossed keeps crossing and I keep paying.By DethklokJust got this today and read it in one sitting. Worth the money. The middle story 'The Livers' felt like the weakest out of the three. It's a continuation of the Amanda story arc from Crossed: Psychopath and doesn't really pop. Maybe it's because it tries to mix personal insanity with the general Crossed insanity and comes off kind of bland instead of sharp and hard hitting. Hopefully any future Crossed stories with the Amanda character will balance better. The Garth Ennis story which is the beginning, 'The Fatal Englishman' was good, if kind of preachy at times. Ennis still delivers and I own other comics he's done, so the man puts in work. The one that made this book was the last story by Si Spurrier, who is doing the Crossed: Wish You Were Here webcomic which I love. He does 'Conquers All', a Crossed love story that hits all the Crossed checkmarks.
