"I don't need to read The Sensuous Woman. I already am one!"

We, the class of 1972, dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Charlene Tibbetts and Mr. Richard Heinsen, whose friendship and leadership will be long remembered. To Mrs. Tibbetts; who taught us not to Beg The Question and to recognize a fallacy, who instructed us on cleanliness and femininity, and who even managed to make Russian literature in- teresting. We love you. Mr. Heinsen

Nonexistent s, 1; Oscar Wilde Reading Club 3, chairman 2; Gargle staff 3,4; mock election 3.

The term "Wild Chicken" was conceived by Jeff Becker at Uni High in October of 1969. "Wild Chicken" was originally an idiomatic phrase alluding to great excitement. It was not long before one could walk down the hall and

hear, "Wild Chicken! I got a 5 in math!", or into the locker room and hear Kim Mast singing, "Wild Chicken, I think I love you." During the same time period, five boys of the class of '73 originated a new underground newspaper, "Gargle". Of course, no respectable underground newspaper would be without a mascot, and the name of the Gargle mascot was an obvious choice. Hence, the great Wylde Q. Chicken was born. During the year, he wrote articles for Gargle, appeared in graffitti

on restroom walls, and even got his name on the library's overdue list. He became so popular that he beat U.S. Senator Ralph Tyler Smith in the school mock election. It is in this tradition that we record our beloved Wylde Q. Chicken in this yearbook, to be known for posterity. LONG LIVE UNI, HOME OF THE CHICKEN!

27 Class History

In the year 1967, Principal Robert Carlier was faced with one of the worst problems of his career: whether or not to expel the entire subfreshman class or to try to rehabilitate them. In vain, Mr. Carlier attempted the latter. Poor Mr. Carlier. We just couldn't help ourselves. As subs we are a menace. By the end of our subfreshman year we drive nine out of our twelve teachers away from the school—not including the principal. Spitwads, passing notes and writing on desks and books are our favorite boredom-killers. Sandy Patterson knocks Razzle out of his chair by hitting him in the chest. Jane bombards him with

tennis balls and Nancy passes him a note with the message, "Razzle wears falsies!" In Home Ec the girls sit beaver with napkins on the knees and throw pieces of fabric around the room. Dan Gut crawls under the table and takes half the class with him. Then Dan gets in the wastecan and hops around the room. Scott thinks he has the mumps. But the girls succeed in driving Miss Lucht completely out of her mind when they bring the police to force her to return our X- week money. Poor Miss Lucht. In Art, Lindsay turns piro and sets the wastecan on fire. In Music, Steve throws paper

airplanes around the room. Miss Swengel is the envy of all the girls. She has the most perfect figure . . . almost UNREAL. Mr. McNamara swears at Karla after we soak the first floor hall with water balloons at our first class party.

But terrorizing the teachers is not our only concern, we also have a thriving social life. On the second day of school we pair off into twenty-two couples. We take over the lounge and make "I Am the Walrus" our class song. Sherry's parties somehow turn into orgies with everybody rolling on the floor. Spin-the-Bottle is our favorite game. The boys steal the girls' purses and read their notes. We almost win the Tape Race. Star Dance and Xmas Dance are

the big events of the year. The Green Room is our favorite hang-out for certain unmentionable activities until it is locked up for equally unmentionable reasons. Freshman year we are even bolder with our teachers. Mrs. Lo breaks into tears but Mr. Lemke is the teacher of

the year. "You turn my stomach . . . These papers are nicely stacked, aren't they? Wyatt, what do you want, a little pull toy? Hays! to the back of the room and no one sits next to you." Mr. Lemke nostalgically recalls the pictures we drew of him on the blackboard and cries after his son flushes his watch down the toilet. We have a forty minute Math

class daily as P.E. is right before it. Barb and Ruth join our class and Dan Gut leaves. The social outhouse committee is established. We begin to skip classes—language lab is more frequently not attended than attended. Miss Leppert instills into us the principals of the three interlocking circles. We excavate a site and Nancy and Jane bring a piece of sheep manure to class as a specimen. Karen Doebel has our class party and seven boys are hauled into the police station for climbing the PLATO tower. We end our freshman year feeling much more mature. Sophomore year we change from wholesome, all-American girls and boys to freaks. Drugs, cigarettes and alcohol enter our lives. We have parties every from December to April. Moratorium and Walk for Development become major concerns. The armed National Guard surrounds Uni. Dan Kogan, Dan Rock and Wendy Martin enter our class. Mr. Brown is the one teacher we like. Colonel Sanders' math students resort to cheating. Mr. King teaches us English history under the tables and a certain student serves Vodka to the class as an example of Russian food. Mrs. Tibbetts begins to exert her everlasting influence on our class. The policy on PDA is established and enforced by

Captain Clipboard. Mr. Jenkins is still 65. Lindsay and Nancy set the chemistry lab on fire. The famous cigarette pile outside the front door comes into existence. Wylde Q. Chicken and the Oscar Wilde Book Reading Club are born. "Down by the Old Millstream" and the Sophomore Boy's Act are the hits of Big Show, Drunks invade our Spring Fling. The girls reluctantly discard their modesty when they are forced by Mrs. Baker to take showers after P.E. Sophomore year

leaves us feeling very mature if not a bit corrupted.

28 Junior year we suddenly change our study habits when we discover the existence of ACT, SAT, NMSQT and Achievement Tests. Diana, Valarie and Angela Woo join our class and Lindsay, Gail, Sherry, Jay, Bob and Allan leave. Scott and Rob flabbergast the Administration when they don't skip any classes. Keith fights out the battles of World War I and World War II in History. Mr. Heinsen comes to Uni and befriends us. Mr. Levin comes and goes and nobody knows. Bob opens his home, refrigerator and bar to us. Mrs. Unzicker becomes Mrs. Bond. The cigarette pile grows larger and larger and LARGER. We terrorize Mr. Banion with our attempts to drive. Dan is the first to get his driver's license and Nancy becomes Mario Andretti. Scott, Rob, Brian, David and Peter create Gargle, Uni's first underground newspaper. Wylde Q. Chicken beats Ralph Smith in the mock election. Nancy puts the junior class in debt

after Xmas Dance but Jane manages to revive it with Prom. The junior girls discover the senior boys. Scott gets hepatitis and forces the class to get shots. We ended junior year feeling great anticipation for our senior year. As seniors we take over the school, we control every committee, class and activity. WE GO WILD! We rejuvenate the lounge and dance to the students of "Build Me Up Buttercup", "Hello-Goodbye" and "Hanky Panky." Our class becomes closer and we spend lunch time under the tree. The cigarette pile is now a mound. We go out every single Friday and Saturday night. Iron Curtain invades the English class with her literature. Karla, Jane and Nancy learn

Chinese. Greg Collinson skips so much that Mrs. Tibbetts thinks he has dropped out of school. Mr. Heinsen is lucky if 5 out of SO students show up for Psychology. Peter becomes the class bomb maniac. We become famous for our wild

parties and orgies. We DRINK . . . orange juice and we SLEEP . . . soundly (not to mention all those other horrible, nasty things). We lead the underclassmen on the path of corruption. We apply and are accepted at colleges because of our vast merits. Mrs. Tibbetts teaches us to argue logically and we give her a copy of the Sensuous Woman for Christmas. Mr. Jerks comes with his jokes. Wyle Q. Chicken is now our class mascot and Dan Kogan is our class playboy. Sledding at Orchard Downs is a popular activity. We have two excellent Big Show acts and we plan to take the first senior trip in the history of Uni High. We are more often out of class than in class. Cageball in the mud is our favorite sport. We graduate on the 50th anniversary of Uni and we wonder how the school will survive without us. "We are not afraid of tomorrow for we have seen yesterday and we love today." (Mr. Beck's carpe diem theory)

Peter Rasmussen, better known to our class as "Razzle", returned to Uni High on April 21, 1972 for a reunion after an absence of three years. It is obvious from the picture that Razzle has changed immensely from his Uni High days, from greaser to freak. But then we have changed too since we were subs. A salute to Razzle, our favorite Math teacher!

The freshman, after having a winning season as subs, dropped to 1-8 on the season, their only win being over Sidney. In the first half of that game, the freshman's zone press shut out Sidney 34-0. The frosh also looked good against Brookens when Tom Dworschak scored 30 points, but Uni lost by nine.

predicted (3-20), it still played better basketball than in the previous two years and even looked tough at times. This year's team was led by co-captains Greg Walters and Jim Bartle and juniors Ken McClellan and Fred Marx. With only three players graduating the future could be promising.
