Based on the Porsche 964, the 964 Cup was the 1990 racing version for this new Carrera Cup championship. In addition to an increase in output by 11 kW to 195 kW (265 hp) the 964 Cup had a welded Wilfried Matter roll-cage, a single Recaro race seat with six point safety harness and a fire-suppression system. • Porsche 919 Hybrid English.Indd
Porsche 919 Hybrid Return to top-level sport Porsche is making its comeback to the top-level motorsport arena: with the new 919 Hybrid the sports car brand is sending a platform for pioneering technology to the top category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the undisputed seasonal highlight of the 24-hour Le Mans race. Porsche's reputation precedes it at this venue: with 16 overall victories under its belt, the brand holds the record for this, the most famous endurance race in the world. In 2014 Porsche is returning to the top-level class endurance race after a 16-year absence - namely Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1). Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG explains: "The new and revolutionary efficiency regulations for this class were what prompted us to take this step. In 2014 it is not going to be the fastest contender who is going to win the sports car world championship and Le Mans, but the car that gets furthest with the defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that the automotive industry has to face. The 919 Hybrid is like a high speed research laboratory and the most complex racing car Porsche has ever built." The new WEC regulations for the LMP1 racing car gives engineers an unusual amount of leeway and demands pioneering technology, such as hybridisation, downsizing engines and consistent lightweight construction. This is all particularly relevant for the development of future generations of factory-spec sports cars. Maximum sporting performance and highest efficiency are at the heart of "Porsche Intelligent Performance".

Press Release August 29, 2014 No. M 135/14 FIA World Endurance Championship - LMP1 drivers take a summer break Taking the holiday at full throttle Stuttgart. Despite the FIA World Endurance Championship's long summer break between the races in Le Mans (15th June) and the next outing in Austin, Texas (20th September), Porsche's LMP1 works drivers are not getting bored. In addition to test- ing with the Porsche 919 Hybrid, they have made numerous appearances for the company and indulged their high-speed hobbies. Timo Bernhard's passion is driving Porsche cars – be it for the works team on the track or in a private capacity in rallying or recently hill climbing, too. Two weeks after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he enjoyed taking part with his Porsche GT3 Cup as the course car in the Rallye Warndt in the German Saarland. With his team-mate Mark Webber he subsequently attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where he naturally also dropped by for the Porsche Supercup. The most successful holiday and family excursion came on 13th July - on son Paul's first birthday, Timo took over- all victory in the 41st Homburg ADAC Hill Race in a Porsche 991 Cup (Typ 991) in Germany. The car is normally driven by Earl Bamber (NZ) in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland for Team 75 run by Timo's dad Rüdiger Bernhard. From 21st to 23rd July, Timo and LMP1 colleagues Brendon Hartley and Marc Lieb were busy testing at Paul Ricard, France, which was followed by a detour for Team 75 Berhard's partici- pation at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, before it was then off on holiday with wife Katharina and little Paul.

  • Sporty Road Vehicles with a Racing Finish
The tradition behind the GT3 RS models Sporty road vehicles with a racing finish For 46 years, Porsche has been bestowing the RS abbreviation exclusively on 911 series- production models that serve as the link between the road-going sports cars and the successful GT racing cars of the brand. The cars are athletes through and through, raising driving precision to new heights with each new generation. A 911 GT3 RS is a model athlete with motorsport DNA – showing its full potential on the race track but also stealing the show in everyday driving. For more than half a century, the engineers at Porsche have held the same ambition when developing a new 911 generation: To be the benchmark for driving dynamics once more. It was back in 1972. This is when the first 911 RS model made its debut: The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 has long since become an icon of automotive history. A well-maintained example of this model can command a seven-figure price. In its day, this very pure car cost 33,000 Deutsche Marks. It weighed barely 900 kilograms in its road-ready configuration, and delivered 210 hp and a top speed of 240 km/h; it was also the first to feature a fixed rear spoiler. Demand clearly exceeded the 500 units required for sport type approval. Ultimately, Porsche built 1,036 of these vehicles. It was twelve years before another 911 bore the RS logo on its bonnet: The 911 SC RS saw Porsche unveil a pure homologation model for rally driving, and only 21 were made.

  • Lightweight Carrera Confusion, Third Edition
Lightweight Carrera Confusion, Third Edition By Bob Gagnon This article is a revision of my article “Lightweight Carrera Confusion” which appeared in the May 1993 edition of Porsche Panorama, the monthly magazine of the Porsche Club of America. This article will discuss the history and differences between the normal Carrera 2 and the European Carrera RS, the RS America and the Carrera Cup racing cars built between 1990 and 1993. The European Carrera RS Porsche has a long history of developing and selling special modified versions of their normal product line for both street and racing use. Of these cars, the 911 Carrera RS models are perhaps the most famous. The first of these cars was the Carrera RS 2.7 introduced in 1972 as a homologation basis for a GT racing car, the Carrera RSR 2.8. These cars were extremely successful both on the sales room floor and at the racetrack and ultimately evolved into the 1974 Carrera RS 3.0 road car and the Carrera RSR 3.0 racing car. Porsche did not import the Carrera RS 2.7 and RS 3.0 road cars to the USA. From 1975 there was no Carrera RS model produced until 1992when Porsche produced a Carrera RS to serve as a homologation basis for the GT racing car , the Carrera RSR 3.8. The origin the 1992 Carrera RS starts with the European Carrera Cup racing series for which special modified Carrera 2 cars were built in 1990 and 1991. These modified Carrera 2 cars were VIN numbered as a normal European Carrera 2 coupe with a 0 as the thirteenth digit designating a ROW (Rest of World, non USA) Coupe but with a “9” as the fourteenth digit beginning the last four digits of the VIN which are the serial number.

www.porscheroadandrace.com Philippe Alméras of Team Martinet by Alméras and his passion for Porsche Published: 29th March 2017 By: Lucian Sonea Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/philippe-almeras-of-team-martinet-by-almeras-and-his-passion-for-porsche/ Philippe Alméras is the owner of Team Martinet by Alméras, one of the main Porsche team contenders in the 2017 racing calendar: Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Porsche Carrera Cup France, French GT4 Championship, VdeV Endurance Series, Porsche Club Racing and more. The name Alméras is linked from the very beginning with Porsche. Brothers Jean-Marie and www.porscheroadandrace.com Jacques Alméras (the latter being the father of Philippe) set up their Porsche tuning and racing workshop in the late ‘60s in southern France near Montpellier. Quite soon, lots of Porsche owners came along from all over France and even from wider Europe to benefit from Alméras Freres’ skills of preparing Porsches, modifying bodywork, racing tuned engines, chassis development and special parts. With this Porsche 962 C sport-prototype (now fully restored to its original condition) Équipe Alméras Freres took part at the 1989 edition of the Le Mans 24hrs (Group C1). The drivers were Jean-Marie Alméras, Jacques Alméras and Allain Iannetta. The car retired in the 13th hour due to an accident. The Ville de Montpellier sticker means the team had support from www.porscheroadandrace.com the City Hall of Montpellier. The race start number #34, corresponds to the department of Hérault (of which the departmental capital is Montpelier) In parallel with this workshop activity, their name became a benchmark in racing all through the ‘70s and ‘80s, especially in rallying and endurance.
