FREE ZONES

General information Official definition “Free economic zone” is a part of the territory of the Republic of Belarus with determined boundaries, within which a special legal regime in relation to the residents of that free economic zone is established and effective for their carrying out investment and entrepreneurial activity.” http://law.by/main.aspx?guid=3871&p0=H19800213e

Number of active compa- 419 organizations were registered as residents of free economic zones of the nies in Free Zones Republic in 2016. The largest number of the residents is registered in zones of “Minsk” (140) and “Grodnoinvest” (92). They are followed by FEZ of “Brest” (88), “-Raton” (73), “” (50) and “” (34).

Main sectors of activity -The main activity of FEZ residing companies is manufacturing of industrial products (nearly 90% of the total number of enterprises): precision machinery industry and metal working, electronic engineering and telecommunications, chemical and petrochemical industry, agriproduct processing, production of healthcare products and equipment, modern construction material, new kinds of services.

Distribution of investors The most active foreign investors, with their share in total volume of foreign investment accumulated exceeding 82% are as follows: Russian Federation (19.3%), United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (14.3%), Germany (15.8%), Po- land (8.4%), USA (6.7%), Austria (6.6%), Cyprus (5.7%), Latvia (3%), Czech Repu- blic (2.4%). http://eng.belta.by/infographica/view/free-economic-zones-1762/
