Joint Appointment of Consultant Neurologist Emergency Care and Integrated Care Division, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital – 8PA Regional Neurosciences Unit, Imperial College Hospitals, Charing Cross Hospital – 2PA JOB DESCRIPTION About our organisation Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have nearly 6,000 members of staff that care for nearly one million people locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics. We are one of the best performing FTs in London for A&E waiting times, and mortality rates are better than average. Since the Care Quality Commission last inspected our hospitals we have taken on responsibility for a range of new services. Our new services include: Cardiac catheter service and a paediatric assessment unit on the West Middlesex site Surgical assessment unit on the Chelsea site New sexual health clinic at 10 Hammersmith Broadway Virtual fracture clinics Learning disabilities passports Plans are in place for a £20 million expansion to critical care facilities and refurbishment of the children’s unit at West Middlesex, both in partnership with the Trust’s dedicated charity CW+. This post is a new post that will also take on some of the work of Dr Angus Kennedy, our senior neurologist, who is going part time. Applicants are invited to join a growing, dynamic and forward- looking department of neurology and stroke medicine. The successful candidate will join a close team based at the Chelsea site made up of five consultant neurologists, a stroke consultant (About to be advertised), and Dr Michael Pelly, who continues to contribute to the TIA service, at the Chelsea site. The wider department includes a further three consultant neurologists (with a fourth to be appointed shortly) and three consultant stroke physicians based at the West Middlesex site. The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient services in busy, but well supported hospitals. The appointment will be 10PAs and will include 2 PAs at the Regional Neurosciences Unit at Charing Cross Hospital. There will be 3 general clinics at Chelsea & Westminster and a specialist clinic at Charing Cross in a subspecialty that is complementary to the needs of the services in both Trusts. The appointee will participate in the Regional neurology on call rota unless they wish to participate in the Regional HASU stroke rota instead. See page 11 for Job Plan SECTION 1 - DIRECTORATE SPECIFIC INFORMATION 1.1 Overview The Trust Board comprises an independent Chair, Sir Thomas Hughes-Hallett, Executive Directors (Chief Executive, Deputy Chief Executive, Medical Director, Chief Operating Director Chief Nurse, Chief Financial Officer, Director of HR and OD), and eight Non-Executive Directors from outside the NHS. The Chief Executive of Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust is Mrs Lesley Watts, and the Medical Director is Dr Zoe Penn. Additionally there is an excellent general radiology department including interventional radiology e.g. RIG and image guided LP. For dedicated interventional neuroradiology we work closely with our colleagues at Charing Cross Hospital and our patients are treated there in a hub and spoke fashion. In addition the West Middlesex site has an Epilepsy Nurse clinic run by Mr Pierre Ramkoleea and outpatient neurophysiology. Consultant Neuroradiology support is anticipated to be in place at West Middlesex site later in 2018 also from Imperial College. At Chelsea and Westminster neurology has inpatient beds on Nell Gwynne Ward which is a combined neurology (4 beds) and stroke unit (20 beds), with only the occasional medical outlier. There is flexibility for beds according to specialty need and the beds for the ward are managed autonomously to help downstream patients from HASU at Charing Cross. There is an excellent Medical Day Unit (MDU) facility for rapid investigations, lumbar puncture, and patient review outside the clinic setting. The Gold Award winning daily TIA service is hosted on MDU. Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has close links with the Royal Brompton Hospital, an internationally renowned tertiary care and research centre for cardiac and pulmonary diseases. Drs Janssen, Singh- Curry, and Redwood provide inpatient neurology consultations, and weekday (9-5) emergency cover. In addition Dr Janssen provides a weekly outpatient clinic and Dr Singh-Curry a monthly sarcoid clinic. A similar arrangement is currently being set up with the Royal Marsden Hospital. 1.2 Major Neurology Departmental
