The Albanian-American Community in the United States : A Diaspora Coming to Visibility 1 Nadège Ragaru and Amilda Dymi * The Albanian-American community in the United States became visible at the time of the NATO intervention in Kosovo in the Spring of 1999. The US government had promised to shelter 20,000 Kosovars expelled from their homeland by Serb-dominated Yugoslav forces (Michael Kranish and Mary Leonard, 1999). As refugees hit American soil, stories of family reunion and community solidarity were told in the local and national press. True, there had been earlier rallies in Washington organized by Albanian-American organizations that had hinted at the wish, on the part of the Albanian immigrants, to weigh upon US foreign policy towards the Balkans.

  • Dear Senator
Dear Senator: We support, strongly and without qualification, President Obama’s nomination of Chuck Hagel to be the next Secretary of Defense. Most of us have known the Senator for a decade or more and consistently have found him to be one of the best informed leaders in the U.S. Congress on national security issues. Senator Hagel’s credentials for the job are impeccable. As a decorated Vietnam veteran, a successful entrepreneur in the private sector, and a two-term United States senator, he brings exceptional qualifications and experience to the Department of Defense, particularly at this time of budget constraint and challenges in reshaping America’s military power while keeping it strong for the coming decades. Senator Hagel’s political courage has impressed us all. He has stood and argued publicly for what he believes is best for the United States. Time and again, he has chosen to take the path of standing up for our nation, rather than the path of political expediency. He has always supported the pillars of American foreign policy: a strong military; a robust Atlantic partnership; a commitment to the security of Israel, as a friend and ally; a determination to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons; and the defense of human rights as a core principle of America’s role in the world. We have spent most of our lives in the service of our country, deeply committed to America’s security and the example of our democracy. Many of us served in the U.S. armed services and most of us have served for decades as professional diplomats.

  • FREEDOM PRIMER No.L
FREEDOM PRIMER No.l The Convention Challenge and The Freedom Vote THE CHALLENGE AT THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION What Was The Democratic National Convention? The Democratic National Convention was a big meeting held by the National Democratic Party at Atlantic City in August. People who represent the Party came to the Convention from every state in the country. They came to decide who would be the candidates of the Democratic Party for President and Vice-President of the United States in the election this year on November 3rd. They also came to decide what the Platform of the National Democratic Party would be. The Platform is a paper that says what the Party thinks should be done about things like Housing, Education, Welfare, and Civil Rights. Why Did The Freedom Democratic Party Go To The Convention? The Freedom Democratic Party (FDP) sent a delegation of 68 people to the Convention. These people wanted to represent you at the Convention. They said that they should be seated at the Convention instead of the people sent by the Regular Democratic Party of Mississippi. The Regular Democratic Party of Mississippi only has white people in it. But the Freedom Democratic Party is open to all people -- black and white. So the delegates from the Freedom Democratic Party told the Convention ±t was the real representative of all the people of Mississippi. How Was The Regular Democratic Party Delegation Chosen? The Regular Democratic Party of Mississippi also sent 68 -^ people to the Convention in Atlantic City. But these people were not chosen by all the people of Mississippi.

Bush Administration’s (2001 – 2009) efforts to promote democracy in the Arab world, following military occupation in Iraq, and through ‘democracy support’ or ‘democracy assistance’ in Lebanon. While reviewing well rehearsed arguments that emphasise the inappropriateness of the methods employed to promote Western liberal democracy in Middle East countries and the difficulties in the way of democracy being fostered by foreign powers, it focuses on two factors that also contributed to derailing the U.S.’s plans to introduce ‘Western style’ liberal democracy to Iraq and Lebanon.

  • Chairman's Report
2014-2015 Chairman’s Report A Bi-annual report summarizing the organization’s activities in 2014 and 2015. “At the root of everything that we’re trying to accomplish is the belief that America has a mission. We are a nation of freedom, living under God, believing all citizens must have the opportunity to grow, create wealth, and build a better life for those who follow. If we live up to these moral values, we can keep the American dream alive for our children and our grandchildren, and America will remain mankind’s best hope” — Ronald Reagan 1 2 A Message From the Chairman... Dear Fellow Republicans, It is a great time to be a Republican in Cuyahoga County! 2014 was an exciting and busy year as we worked to re- elect our incumbent statewide candidates and further develop our voter engagement efforts with the creation of the Advocacy Council. While the work is constant, it builds a foundation for continued Republican success, such as the 70% of Republican endorsed candidates that were elected to local office in 2015. In 2014, Ohio Governor John Kasich won Cuyahoga County in his gubernatorial re-election; this was the first time Cuyahoga County voted Republican since Senator George Voinovich’s 2004 re-election to the U.S. Senate. Cuyahoga County was a regular campaign stop for many of our incumbent Republican officeholders, including a rally for Governor Kasich with U.S. Senator Rob Portman and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. In the end, winning Cuyahoga County was the icing on the cake for Governor Kasich who won a historic 86 out of 88 Ohio counties.
