Konzum Selects IBM to Deploy the First Selfcheckout Solution in The New Integrated System Increases Customer Loyalty and Improves Traffic Flows

Split, Croatia, October 6th, 2010: Croatian group Konzum in cooperation with IBM has successfully implemented self-scanning solution in its store (Sarajevska avenue 6) to improve in-store traffic flows. This is the first implementation of this kind in Croatia which enables Konzum's customers with superior shopping experience.

In Croatia, Konzum serves more than 650,000 customers across the country. The need for speed up checkout process and more innovative solutions emerged in order to cope with the ever-increasing number of consumers. To provide new level of service excellence, optimize checkout flows and adapt to fluctuating customer numbers, the company decided to install self-scanning systems combined with existing POS systems.

Customers pick up a hand-held scanner when entering the store and use it to scan and tally their purchases while shopping. That is how the store’s customers get a quicker checkout and save time.

“The system has been designed as a special benefit for Multipluscard loyalty card users and saves time and the money while controlling spending costs," said Ante Tandara, self-scanning project manager, Konzum.

Konzum installed self scanning system as part of a pilot project that started in 2009. Checkout personnel are on hand to answer any questions, and the systems are designed to speed checkout whether a cart is full or not. Self scanning system enables more privacy, full article control and a faster checkout, which in turn improves customer satisfaction and attracts new clients.

"With Self scanning solution integrated by IBM, retailers have an alternative to traditional shopping that gives them the flexibility to better suit consumer needs. This enhances customer choice, convenience and service," said Zsolt Guzsvány, project manager, IBM Croatia.
