Neo Nothing Post of All is a very good book for Falco fansBy bodger42Falco and Beyond: Neo Nothing Post of All is a very good book for Falco fans, and finally, one in English! To begin as a fan for many years the book started off rough. There was a bit too much talk of politics and the discography proved woefully inadequate. For the singles listing the songs ZUVIEL HITZE (Too Much Heat) and KANN ES LIEBE SEIN (Can it be Love) which Falco sang with Desiree Nosbusch were omitted. The Discogs online entry for Falco or 45 Cat (for 7" singles) have more in-depth listings. Why the four star review instead of three?The book was very well thought out and written and the author has definitely done her homework; it was interesting to see how much Falco was compared and contrasted to singers such as Eminem. Also, Falco's work was compared to numerous filmmakers. The pictures that were included were also a welcome sight. All in all, Falco fans should hop this one right up! Falco and Beyond is devoted to the most popular Austrian song-writer, singer and rapper of the twentieth century and one of the most successful European singers of all time. Falco was born in 1957, reached the peak of his popularity in the 1980s with songs such as "Der Kommissar", "Rock Me Amadeus" and "Jeanny", with mixed luck attempted to revive his career in the 1990s and died in a car crash in 1998. He sold over 30 million records worldwide and remains a successful posthumous artist. The book attempts to identify the most salient and contradictory features of Falco's art, such as linguistic inventiveness and dexterity, rapping and adopting a posture of a romantic artist. It argues that Falco's songs betray an apocalyptic imagination, picturing the image of an exhausted and unhappy world. It looks at Falco's career and his phenomenon in the context of international and Austrian music business and politics, and investigates how his popularity has been maintained after his death, by means such as records released posthumously, cover versions of his songs, mashup songs and videos, biographies and Falco fandom. Despite their close economic relationship since 1965, their conflicting historic and political relationships and deep-seated prejudice against each other have continued. The Korean government’s official ban on the direct import of Japanese cultural products existed until 1997, but various kinds of Japanese cultural products, including popular music, found their way into Korea through various legal and illegal routes and influenced contemporary Korean popular culture. Since 1998, under Korea’s Open- Door Policy, legally available Japanese popular cultural products became widely consumed, especially among young Koreans fascinated by Japan’s quintessentially postmodern popular culture, despite lingering resentments towards Japan.
