Mr. Wydey’s TV Series Episode Guides Stargate SG-1 Seasons 1-10 The Stargate films This collection of notes offers a strictly personal take on the whole of the Stargate SG-1 universe, as seen on television. The reports were gathered over many years as the episodes unfolded on Sky TV as seen by a Virgin Media customer. Until the Great Disaster of 2007. As will be revealed in due course, Sky and Virgin had a falling out and they did not make up for several years. The last couple of episodes of series 10 were not made available to your reviewer until 2011!! Of course, other TV channels have picked up the torch, and although Sky continues to show SG-1 in dribs and drabs, the Pick channel allowed fans to see the whole thing right from the start on weekdays from Monday to Friday, and at the time of this edition’s publication, Pick was showing everything for a second time. As well as living on in digital TV heaven, the world of the Stargate is also available on DVD. And there are two complete fan-fiction novels in the RLC collection currently, and another is in preparation. Clyde E. Wydey, May 2018 F&F BOOKS www.FarragoBooks.co.uk All rights reserved. STARGATE ATLANTIS: HOMECOMING 7 PROLOGUE Halfway Home AZURE STREAKS FLASHED and danced, blue shifted stars shapeless blurs in the speed of her passage. Atlantis cruised through hyperspace with the majesty of Earth’s old ocean liners, her size impossible to guess in the infin- ity of space. Her towering spires and thousands of rooms were nothing compared to the vast distances around her. Atlantis glided through hyperspace, her massive engines firing white behind her, shields protecting fragile build- ings and occupants from the vacuum. Behind, the Milky Way galaxy spun like a giant pin- wheel, millions of brilliant stars stabbing points of light in the darkness. Atlantis traversed the enormous distance between galaxies, hundreds of thousands of light years vanishing swifter than thought. Even with her enormous hyperdrive, the journey was the work of many days. It was nine days, Dr. McKay had predicted, from Earth to Lantea, Atlantis’ original home in the Pegasus Galaxy, deserted these two and a half years since they had fled from the Replicator attack. Of all the places their enemies might seek them, they were least likely to look where they were certain Atlantis wasn’t. Of course, no one person could stay in the command chair that controlled the city’s flight for nine days, not even lost in the piloting trance that the Ancient inter- faces fostered. Not even John Sheppard could do that. Lt. Colonel Sheppard had come to Atlantis five and a half years ago at the beginning of the expedition, and the city had come to life at his touch.

  • A Brief History of Ad-Supported Cable Dramas (And a Look Ahead) by Steve Sternberg
November 2018 #52 __________________________________________________________________________________________ _____ A Brief History of Ad-Supported Cable Dramas (and a look ahead) By Steve Sternberg Twenty years ago, four broadcast networks were the only places you could find new original scripted series programming – and basically only eight months out of the year (since they aired mostly repeats during non-sweeps months and throughout the summer). That started to change in the late 1990s, when Oz (1997) and The Sopranos (1999) debuted on HBO. Both of these groundbreaking series elevated the scripted drama beyond anything the broadcast networks were capable of doing (being restrained by advertiser concerns about language, sexual content and violence), and demonstrated that a network only available in about one-third of the country could develop a widespread audience and become a cultural touchpoint. As a premium cable network, HBO, and later Showtime, Starz, and Cinemax, did not need to concern themselves with advertisers and the accompanying content constraints. In 2002, ad-supported television changed forever, when FX debuted The Shield, which broke many long-standing conventions and led to a gradual increase in edgier original cable dramas, which continues to this day. In 2013, Netflix’s premiere of House of Cards began a steady stream of original scripted series on services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and CBS All Access. It’s hard to imagine that was only five years ago. Some people call this the era of Peak TV, which basically means there are now so many good original series airing on so many different sources, that it can easily overwhelm viewers.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer v. American Honda Motor Co. 900 F. Supp. 1287 (C.D. Cal. 1995) David V. Kenyon, District Judge **** I. Introduction This case arises out of Plaintiffs Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's and Danjaq's claim that Defendants American Honda Motor Co. and its advertising agency Rubin Postaer and Associates, violated Plaintiffs' "copyrights to sixteen James Bond films and the exclusive intellectual property rights to the James Bond character and the James Bond films" through Defendants' recent commercial for its Honda del Sol automobile. Premiering last October 1994, Defendants' "Escape" commercial features a young, well-dressed couple in a Honda del Sol being chased by a high-tech helicopter. A grotesque villain with metal- encased arms1 jumps out of the helicopter onto the car's roof, threatening harm. With a flirtatious turn to his companion, the male driver deftly releases the Honda's detachable roof (which Defen- dants claim is the main feature allegedly highlighted by the commercial), sending the villain into space and effecting the couple's speedy get-away. Plaintiffs move to enjoin Defendants' commercial pending a final trial on the merits, and Defen- dants move for summary judgment. II. Factual Background In 1992, Honda's advertising agency Rubin Postaer came up with a new concept to sell the Honda del Sol convertible with its detachable rooftop. For what was to become the commercial at issue, Rubin Postaer vice-president Gary Yoshida claims that he was initially inspired by the climax scene in "Aliens," wherein the alien is ejected from a spaceship still clinging onto the spacecraft's door.
