SPONSORSHIP AT PENRYN RUGBY CLUB Dear Prospective Sponsor and Partner, Hello and welcome to Penryn Rugby Club. Approaching the 150th anniversary of its formation in 1872, Penryn Rugby Club is the oldest rugby club in Cornwall. As of 2018, Penryn has two men’s senior teams, a strong ladies’ squad and well over 200 mini and youth players. In addition, the club has over 100 volunteers. Penryn owns its substantial grounds and facilities on the edge of town, close to the Falmouth University and Exeter University shared campus. Also known as The Borough, Penryn Rugby Club promotes “The Borough Way” of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, sportsmanship, loyalty and friendship across the whole club, providing a positive and safe environment for rugby players irrespective of age and gender. The Penryn Memorial Ground is a focal point for the town, bringing together people and businesses from Penryn and neighbouring villages. Penryn RFC already has a network of sponsors who provide vital support to the club, ensuring that we are able to provide rugby to the highest possible standards for the community of Penryn. However, we are an ambitious club with an aim to be the leading amateur club in Cornwall. This is why we need sponsors to join us in supporting our four priorities: to protect what makes rugby and Penryn RFC so special; to engage with the Borough of Penryn by keeping in touch with the community; to grow the Borough through more opportunities for more people; and to achieve success on and off the pitch. Penryn RFC has designed a number of tiered packages which will give businesses and individuals the opportunity to support the Club at all levels. Our packages offer our sponsors brand exposure media, print, signage, membership database, competition naming rights and much more. In return for your investment, Penryn RFC can help your business increase brand awareness and image, gain new customers and develop relationships with existing customers. If you have any queries regarding our sponsorship packages please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Penryn is a rugby club with a rich history and a bright future, and I hope you will be a part of it. Yours sincerely Stephen Long PRFC Chairman SENIOR RUGBY AT PENRYN RUGBY CLUB Men’s 1st XV Penryn RFC's 1st XV are the flagship side of Cornwall's oldest Rugby Club, having finished third in the Tribute Cornwall Devon league in the 2017/2018 season. Presently, Penryn are punching way above their weight and contributed five players to this year's Cornwall squad for the Bill Beaumont Cup (County Championship) campaign. Women’s 1st XV Penryn are paving the way for the provision of women's rugby in Cornwall. We have the strongest and most successful team in Cornwall and are only getting better. We have strong links with the University and are the main feeder club to the county team with 12 Penryn players making the Cornwall squad 10 of which starting in 1st XV. Men’s 2nd XV: Penryn Saracens After a break of several years, Penryn bucked the general trend in Cornwall last season by re-establishing their 2nd XV, known as Penryn Saracens. The team finished in the top half of the Duchy League competition for the second teams of Cornish clubs and over the course of the season defeated perennial champions Camborne IIs! Hopes are high for an even better season for Penryn's second team in 2018/19. YOUTH RUGBY AT PENRYN RUGBY CLUB PRFC has a full complement of boys teams from U6s to U16s, three girls teams and a Colts team, joint with Falmouth and 2017/2018 was a very successful season for the youth section of the club. Penryn RFC also successfully hosted the U7s & U8s County Festival which involved 400 tag players and had two touring teams visit which involved 300 players from U5s to U13s from Penryn, Exmouth, Aberavon and Truro. We have also seen individual success at representative level with the U16s having four players selected for Exeter Chief Academy and eight representing Cornwall, the Joint Penryn/Falmouth U15s squad had three selected for Exeter Chiefs and 12 selected for Cornwall. The U14s has good representation within the Gold and Silver DPP squads. Edition 10: 20th September 2013 Rugby World Cup 2015 Lead Up and Legacy Activity The RFU launched the seven strands of its national Lead up and Legacy plan on October 31st 2012. The aim of this is to set out an overall framework against which national resource will be invested in the lead up to RWC 2015 with the aim of increasing interest and participation in the game. Whilst many Clubs, CBs, Schools, Colleges, Universities and other bodies are working hard to develop local projects to meet identified local need these seven strands are areas in which we will invest national resource to create change in Rugby communities across the country. It is hoped that those delivery bodies that have not yet identified their focus will focus in on these areas and take action to improve provision and opportunities against these themes. Six Regional Activation and Legacy Groups are now up and running and are working to add value to the seven strands and to engage partners from outside of the immediate rugby community in supporting the efforts of those within it. Each group is populated by representatives from CBs and from the wider community. Attached as an appendix to this CB update is a brief overview of progress against the seven strands along with listings of clubs/projects etc involved to date – this will be updated for each issue. In addition to the work against the seven strands strong working relationships have been established with England Rugby 2015, the Organising Body for the tournament itself, and an update on relevant areas are also included in the appendix.

FOOTBALL, the Rugby sort not that awful game soccer. Back in the 1960’s the young blades of Perranzabuloe spent their summer days lounging on the beach, playing cricket, surfing or indulging in the newest beach activity of surf life saving. There followed warm summer evenings also spent on the beach or possibly chatting to the girls in one of the local pubs. A new ‘fad’ however had recently crossed the Atlantic. I was prone to satisfy my needs in this quarter in Newquay (in the Toddle-Inn or the 46), but the youth of Perranporth had the Galleon. The coffee bar had arrived in Cornwall! A globetrotting South African, Don Russell took over the Galleon in 1962 and started the conversion of the restaurant into a coffee bar. The local soccer club would use the bar, usually on a Sunday. Don however was a rugby football man! He had represented the South African Air Force playing against the RAF in Italy in his younger days, during the Second World War. The local lads had invariably played rugby at School but the only nearby clubs were some distance away. Don cajoled about twenty able recruits into forming a team. Although the Galleon was the spiritual home of the club the inaugural meeting was held up in the Droskyn field car park. There were problems, there always are, but nothing is insoluble. They had no kit, they had no pitch, it’s the little things like that that can get lesser men down, fortunately not Don Russell. The club was a bit of a family affair, Ellis Leah, the new clubs treasurer was Don’s brother-in-law.
