Social Science On Friday, 5 March, the Year 12 geographers visiting Great Head of Secondary School Keppel Island to investigate the effects of invasive species (especially feral goats) on the island environment for their - Academics IA2 assignment. Congratulations to the Year 12 cohort on the completion of what has certainly been a challenging period complete with exams, co-curricular endeavours and Formal preparations. You have coped admirably with what is undoubtedly a difficult time of the year and you should be justly proud of your efforts. Formal preparations are now being finalised and the excitement is beginning to build within the group. Dancing practice has continued over the past fortnight to ensure that we collectively look the part on the big night. A reminder that the evening itself is governed by COVID-19 regulations and as such, it is not possible to make late additions or amendments to guest lists now that planning has been finalised with the venue. From a pastoral standpoint we have explored important topics such as consent and sexual harassment/assault to ensure that our 12’s are well informed and prepared to support each other in the weeks and months ahead. Additionally, I would like to extend a thank you to Darrin Shadlow, Detective Inspector at the Queensland Police Service, for his visit this week. Darrin provided our students with some guidance around various areas of the law, provided a policing overview of the Rockhampton community and discussed drug and alcohol culture. I certainly hope our Year 12’s learnt as much from his session as I did.
