Carole Keeton Strayhorn will be speaking at the service and it would be wonderful for us as many of us to be there as possible, too. I have left a voicemail for Beverly Griffith, but don’t have current contact information for Betty Himmelblau or Margaret Hoffman. I am guessing some of you will. If so; please pass this information on to them and to any other women who have served on the Austin City Council that I may have inadvertently missed. Thank you. I don’t have a dollar amount to suggest without knowing more about your other funding sources, but I will tell you that the City has allocated roughly $60K annually to support the efforts of the Community Action Network (CAN). When I met with Ed about this earlier, we talked about what the annual budget of ECHO might be with a full-time ED, etc., and we talked about it being roughly $200K. Any ask you make of the City would be considered in the context of percentage versus what other partners might contribute. It is very difficult to come up with new sources of funding in the middle of the budget year, but it is never to early to start planning for the next budget cycle. Another thing to keep -- in mind and I mentioned this to Ed, as well -- there is going to be a Social Services Planning REP issued in April that ECHO will be well positioned to go after. The total amount up for award will be roughly $500K, and I am thinking these will be contracts awarded on annual basis for up to 3 years before re-application is necessary again. This is the source of funding for CAN and some of the City’s planning efforts with Integral Care (formerly MHMR) and ECHO in the past, too. Am happy to discuss this further with you if you like. As part of this effort, we would like to hire an executive director to help the organization get rooted and really drive the agenda on PSH and related topics. We feel Echo can be a very important organization as we develop our direction for addressing the homeless epidemic in Austin. Attached is the letter we would like to present, but there is one missing whole. The dollar figure for the ask of the city. Before we finalize that number, can you give me a sense of what dollar figure range you think would be acceptable to council? I am guessing you know by now that the Council voted 6-1 today in favor of the Park PUD. I am hoping you have the chance to see Bill’s comments online — Channel 6 has video up from meetings here: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/channel6/ and the Park PUD case was #55 on the 1/13 listing. Bill did a great job addressing the issues you raise below. I know you’re disappointed with the vote, and I am truly sorry about that. The majority of folks with whom I have discussed this case believe the proposal — not the one in front of the Planning Commission, but the one in front of the Council today -- is a reasonable approach to ensuring a high quality building in a very important location. I share that opinion which is why I voted the way I did today. The proposal will go in front of the Design Commission before it comes back to Council for 2 and 3rd Reading. In particular, if Council will, going forward, be open to considering PUDs of any size, then shouldn’t the ordinance be amended that states: “A PUD district must include at least 10 acres of land, unless the property is characterized by special circumstances, including unique topographic constraints” ? Jill Hi Randi, Yes, I know about the continued support of the Lyric Opera, which was provided first by the ALO president of the board two years ago when this was initially proposed. It is driven primarily by the expectation that there might be more parking available to their patrons since the immediate surrounding neighborhood streets have become resident parking only. The ALO is particularly incensed at the neighborhood about that. The other benefits that are described in the ALO letter are not necessarily new benefits to the community, such as 4/11/2011 Page 2 of 3 bike parking, which is generally available throughout the community, or shower facilities that are available to building occupants only.
