Aspilapteryx limosella (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), espèce nouvelle pour la faune belge Durant l’automne 2009, plusieurs mines d’Aspilapteryx limosella (Duponchel, 1843) ont été trouvées sur Teucrium chamaedrys L. (Lamiaceae) dans deux localités xérothermiques du sud de la Belgique, respectivement à Resteigne (province de Luxembourg) et à Dinant (province de Namur). C’est la première fois que cette rare espèce est renseignée dans un pays du Benelux. Les informations relatives à la biologie et à la répartition du papillon sont résumées. Samenvatting. Aspilapteryx limosella (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), een nieuwe soort voor de Belgische fauna Tijdens het najaar 2009 werden enkele bladmijnen van Aspilapteryx limosella (Duponchel, 1843) op Teucrium chamaedrys L. (Lamiaceae) gevonden op twee xerothermofiele plaatsen in het Zuid-België, respectievelijk te Resteigne (provincie Luxemburg) en te Dinant (provincie Namen). Het is de eerste maal dat deze zeldzame soort uit Benelux wordt vermeld. Details over de levenswijze en de verspreiding worden gegeven. The small genus Aspilapteryx Spuler, 1910 (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) was revised and divided by Triberti (1985) in two subgenera: subg. Aspilapteryx and subg. Sabulopteryx. However, the second subgenus is now regarded as synonym to Aspilapteryx (De Prins & De Prins 2009). -

Biological Surveys at Hunsbury Hill Country Park 2018
FRIENDS OF WEST HUNSBURY PARKS BIOLOGICAL SURVEYS AT HUNSBURY HILL COUNTRY PARK 2018 Ryan Clark Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre April 2019 Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre Introduction Biological records tell us which species are present on sites and are essential in informing the conservation and management of wildlife. In 2018, the Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre ran a number of events to encourage biological recording at Hunsbury Hill Fort as part of the Friends of West Hunsbury Park’s project, which is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Hunsbury Hill Country Park is designated as a Local Wildlife Site (LWS). There are approximately 700 Local Wildlife Sites in Northamptonshire. Local Wildlife Sites create a network of areas, which are important as refuges for wildlife or wildlife corridors. Hunsbury Hill Country Park was designated as a LWS in 1992 for its woodland flora and the variety of habitats that the site possesses. The site also has a Local Geological Site (LGS) which highlights the importance of this site for its geology as well as biodiversity. This will be surveyed by the local geological group in due course. Hunsbury Hill Country Park Local Wildlife Site Boundary 1 Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre (NBRC) supports the recording, curation and sharing of quality verified environmental information for sound decision-making. We hold nearly a million biological records covering a variety of different species groups. Before the start of this project, we looked to see which species had been recorded at the site. We were surprised to find that the only records we have for the site have come from Local Wildlife Site Surveys, which assess the quality of the site and focus on vascular plants, with some casual observations of other species noted too. -

Fomina The purpose. To carry out probes on revealing and specification of species composition of checkered moths (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) in conditions of botanical gardens and plantings of Kiev. Methods. Standard methods of faunistic research in entomology, population ecology, and protection of plants. Results. It is determined that 24 kinds of checkered moths are eating 54 kinds of plants which are widely used for gardening in Kiev. For the first time the following kinds are revealed: Phyllonorycter issikii, Phyllonorycter platani, and Phyllonorycter emberizaepennella. At calculation of Palii-Kovnatski indexes they specified that in city plantings the dominant phytophags are Cameraria ohridella (94,11%), Phyllonorycter populifoliella (86,37%) and Gracillaria syringella (59,14%). They consider that in formation of the secondary areal of invasion kinds of checkered moths the great value has an areal of spread of the host-plant. Environmental analysis is carried out of checkered moths of family Gracillariidae which is spread in cities of the Europe and which are absent in fauna of cities of Ukraine. That has important theoretical and practical value for ecology, entomology and protection of plants against hazardous checkered moths. Conclusions. All the probed kinds of checkered moths by their trophic specialization may be distributed into polyphages (6 kinds), oligophages (14 kinds) and monophages (3 kinds). -

Though diverging in some morphological features from previously de- scribed species, it is placed in genus Sabulopteryx Triberti, based on wing venation, abdominal characters, male and female genitalia and hostplant choice; this placement is supported by phylogenetic analysis based on the COI mitochondrial gene. -

O. De Prins Diksmuidelaan 176, B-2600 Antwerpen (Belgium) Abstract A new Gracillariid species is described from Morocco : Gracillaria toubkalella n. sp. The lectotype of Coriscium norvegiellum Wocke, 1893 is designated and the synonymy of this taxon with Gracillaria loriolella Frey, 1881 is established. Résumé L'auteur décrit une nouvelle espèce de Gracillariidae provenant du Maroc : Gracilla- ria toubkalella n. sp. Il désigne le lectotype de Coriscium norvegiellum Wocke, 1893 et établit la synonymie de cette espèce avec Gracillaria loriolella Frey, 1881. Introduction In April 1983 I was able to breed some specimens of a Gracillariid species of which I found full grown larvae in twisted Fraxinus leaves in the garden of the Grand Hotel du Toubkal at Asni (Morocco, High Atlas). Almost immediately after their capture the larvae began to construct a pure white silken cocoon between the leaves, against the lid of the box in which they were contained or in the edges ofthat box. The first imago emerged on 20th April 1983. A total of 19 males and 20 females emerged between that date and 29th April. The specimens remained undetermined for about two years, in spite of thoroughly searching the series of Gracillariidae in the museums of Amsterdam, Brussels, Leyden and London and a heavy correspondance with several European specialists on the matter. -

The genus shares morphological and life history traits with several different families of Microlepidoptera, and these characteristics have made it challenging for microlepidopterists to correctly place the genus. Phyllocnistis includes P. citrella Stainton, a globally important economic pest of citrus. We review the taxonomic history of Phyllocnistis and provide a comprehensive list of references. Introduction The leaf-mining genus Phyllocnistis ZeUer, 1848 is an example of a poorly studied genus whose taxonomic placement has vacillated between many different families. Eighty seven species of Phyllocnistis are described worldwide (De Prins & De Prins 2005, 2009), 36 from the Oriental region, 17 from Australasia, 15 from the Palaearctic, and 12 each from the Nearctic and Neotropical regions. Only five are known to occur in the Afrotropical region (De Prins & De Prins 2005, 2009). -

Seventynine species of leaf-mining microlepidoptera are recorded from Bad Gleichenberg (Styria, Austria). The species inventory includes following new county records: Stigmella lapponica, Stigmella nivenburgensis (Nepticulidae), Caloptilia fidella, Parectopa robiniella (furthermore new for Burgenland), Phyllonorycter issikii, Phyllonorycter robiniella and Phyllonorycter stettinensis (Gracillariidae). Of particular interest is the first record of Phyllonorycter issikii south of the Alps, a species introduced from Japan to Europe and mining leaves of Tùia spp. Keywords: Lepidoptera, leaf-miner, Austria, Styria, faunistic records.
