As ever, we look forward to another edition of the 24 Heures du Mans, the greatest endurance race in the world. It is always a wonderful occasion, thanks to its very special ingredients: close racing, an important heritage and unique spirit, winners in four different categories, and a great adventure for competitors and fans alike. Today, the FIA is pleased to announce the new regulations that will see Hypercar-type cars become the premier category of the 24H of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship. Taking effect from the 2020/21 season, they have been developed through a process of positive collaboration between the FIA, ACO, manufacturers and teams, and will provide a stable platform for the long-term, as well as cost- effective proving ground for next generation automotive technologies. REVISED DRIVER LINE-UP FOR NEW ERA AT TOYOTA GAZOO RACING Thursday 4 February 2016 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing today revealed the driver line-up which will lead it into a new era of World Endurance Championship competition. A completely new TS050 HYBRID car has been developed for this season, with significant changes to all areas, including monocoque, engine and hybrid system to meet the team’s ambitious performance targets. On the driver front, 2014 World Champions Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi are again joined by Kazuki Nakajima for a second consecutive season together. In the other car, former TOYOTA Formula 1 racer Kamui Kobayashi steps up from test and reserve driver to a race seat for 2016, replacing the retired Alex Wurz. He will race alongside Stéphane Sarrazin and Mike Conway. Race numbers for the 2016 season will be revealed on 5 February by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, organisers of the WEC and the Le Mans 24 Hours. Kamui’s elevation to a race seat leaves a vacancy as test and reserve driver, which will be announced, along with full technical details of the TS050 HYBRID, at a launch event on 24 March at the Paul Ricard circuit in France. The new driver line-up was announced earlier today at a TOYOTA GAZOO Racing press conference in Tokyo, Japan, at which the team’s new TOYOTA GAZOO Racing identity was also revealed. As well as an updated logo, a 2015 show car displayed the new black, white and red livery which will be modified for the TS050 HYBRID.

Still, the situation will be completely new for each of them, as they’re forming a driver team for the first time. Oliver Jarvis has been driving for Audi since 2008 while Loïc Duval and Lucas di Grassi have been with the brand since 2012 – together, their time with the four rings amounts to 13 years. The generation change in Audi’s driver line-up is the reason why they now form a team for the first time. Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen and Dindo Capello, who spent between one and a half and two decades of their careers with Audi, have since retired from their active careers as race drivers. “This gave us the opportunity to combine the three younger talents into a new driver squad,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. Loïc Duval already raced together with Lucas di Grassi last year. Oliver Jarvis, who in the past occupied the third cockpit in WEC races at Spa and at Le Mans, is now contesting all eight WEC rounds as a new regular driver for the first time. “This has always been my big aim. It’s a huge opportunity that I’m determined to make optimum use of together with Lucas and Loïc,” says the pleased 31-year-old Briton from Burwell, who had previously been active for Audi in the DTM for four years and clinched his first sports car victory in the Sebring 12 Hours two years ago.

Motor Books GmbH At Porsche Road & Race, we receive many books for review, and these include books on all manner of high performance roadgoing sports cars and motorsport. So, when the Aston Martin book, DBR 9 – The Definitive History arrived on my desk, it created some fanfare because not only was it a large parcel, but it was also a very heavy one. Intrigued, I set about opening it, and to be quite honest, it was unlike any other book I had previously had the privilege of reviewing. In a nutshell, this book created a watershed in my opinion, www.porscheroadandrace.com showing just how a definitive book on any automotive subject should be undertaken. Darren Turner, Aston Martin factory driver at the 2014 WEC Silverstone 6 Hour So impressive was this piece of work, that I decided at the time that it could not be reviewed in the normal sense of the word. And so I tracked down Darren Turner, the longest standing Aston Martin works driver, and one who was deeply involved in the development of the DBR 9 from the outset, and I conducted an interview with him at Le Mans in 2016. But wasn’t it a bit of an overkill to do an interview with a racing driver just for a book review, you might ask? No not really, and if you get your hands on a copy of the book, you will understand why! Our teams and I are particularly proud to see 20 ORECA 07 chassis entered in the LMP2 class.
