Easter is a religious holiday that celebrates and honors the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This holiday is Christianity’s most important holiday, other than Christmas , which celebrates Jesus’ birthday. Some also say that Easter origins from the Teutonic goddess, Eostre. Others say that Eater is traced to the Latin word hebdomada alba which means “white week.” This was in reference to the people who were baptized and wore white clothing. People soon found out that there was a translation error. The word hebdomada alba really means Easter in English. Easter is often celebrated by the Easter Bunny coming into people’s houses, like Santa Claus, and hide eggs. When all the children in the world wake up, they would hunt the eggs and maybe find a little surprise inside. Even though Easter is a religious holiday, everyone around the world celebrates it, religious or not. Happy Easter everyone! April 2018

Hey! Do you see that Easter egg right down there? They are hidden in this month’s issue of Circuit Rider. When you count them all and take your answer to Mrs. Workman in room 314, if you get it right, you’ll receive a prize! There can only be three winners, so I suggest you hurry!

Our school was rated 5 out of 10 based on performance skills, school environment, graduation rate, and more. Five out of ten is the average rat- ing for schools in Illinois. We have an average of 417 students, meaning our school is average size over the years. In our school, there is roughly 49% male students and 51% female. About 88% of those students identify as Caucasian. This means that we have less of an ethnic distribution than the average schools that have about 69.6% in Lincoln Il. As you know, our school gives free breakfast and lunch to the students. Our school has had some of the highest PARCC testing scores. We have about 400 kids in the school total. The student:teacher ratio is around 15:1 meaning that for eve- ry fifteen students in our school, there is one teacher. We are part of dis- trict 27. Mr. Froebe is our superintendent followed by Mr. Workman as our principal, and Mr. Bainter as our assistant principle/athletic director. We have around 50 total staff in the building. We have about 10 clubs that students can participate in such as, Photo Club, Circuit Rider, Scholastic Bowl, Play, Student Council, Builder’s Club, etc. Our sports contain of Girl’s Basketball, Boy’s basketball, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball, Cheer, Poms, Girl’s Track, Boy’s Track, and Wrestling. Almost 80% of all bunnies up for adoption are adopted on Easter.

A few things you can do for this springtime holiday are:

Usually around Easter time the weather is nice so, bring your pets or some friends!

Gather your friends and family and go have someone hide eggs with treats inside!

Safely color boiled egg shells with coloring!

Seeing how Easter is a holiday surrounding the resurrection of Jesus, you could spend some time at Church!

Bugs bunny was created by Ben Hardaway, cal Dalton, Charles Thorson, Tex Avery, Bob Givens, Chuck Jones, and Robert Mckimson. Bugs is a gray hare or rabbit who has a insouciant personality. He often times says, “Eh… what’s up, doc?”. He is very famous for he has appeared in TV series, music records, comic books, video games, award shows, amusement park rides, commercials, shorts films, and feature films.

Recently The Four contestant Zhavia has caught the eyes and ears of many music lovers. Zhavia rocked the show by singing a cover of Bodak Yellow. She also sang songs by Khalid and Rihan- na. According to Yahoo, she had health concerns which resulted in a rough performance. This is what Yahoo said, “ The fluctua- tions between her strained upper notes and froggy lower regis- ter, combined with her garbled enunciation, made this almost painful to the ear. But looking at her, with her waist-length dreadlocks, drag-queen eye makeup, and Cher Lloyd attitude, there was no denying that she looked like a star.” Kendyle who was going against Zhavia. Meghan Trainor who host the show later told Kendyle, “Your performance may have outshined Zha- via tonight, but as an artist, I want to buy Zhavia’s album.”

You will need: 2tsp of extract A whole chicken Dough from a frozen pizza (to cry while you make it cause it won’t be as good as Wubbzy’s) 3 cups of Chickey jelly 2 tsp. of the meat substance in ravioli The “Boardwalk” card from Monopoly A small Rubik’s cube from Mr. Kavelman 2 Pounds of tiny grapes from the pits of Narnia The Elder Wand from Harry Potter The hardest dodge ball in P.E Please do not actually A few large mixing bowls make this. I don’t want to get sued. A sledgehammer A spoon

How to make it: Preheat your oven to 788 degrees Fahrenheit. Put your vanilla, card, and the dodge ball into a large mixing bowl, mix it with a spoon. Take your chicken, chickey jelly, grapes, and meat substance into a mixing bowl, then pound it with a sledgehammer. Next, make your dough from the pizza dough by mixing it with the Rubik’s cube. Now mix everything together that you have started, put the dough in a pan then fill it with everything else. Take it out after 30-45 minutes, then grate some dodge ball you have remaining on top for some nice décor. Finally, use the Elder Wand to try to make it look sort of decent. Walla! You did it!

The famous Easter bunny originated as a folkloric figure and symbol of Easter. It originated among German Lutherans as a judge for the children. The Bunny would decide whether the child was good or disobedient. The bunny would bring gifts, , and eggs to the good, or well behaved, children.

All they have asked for is that they are safe before, dur- ing, and after. What that means, is that they have the nuclear weapons out just to defend themselves and make sure that everyone else knows that they are ready for war— If that time comes. But, the last time that they proposed that, they have failed to keep the promise. The leaders of North and South Korea have decided to meet later next month, Seoul’s envoy has said. It will be the first time in a decade that these two people have met. President Donald Trump has also, of course, tweeted about this possible interaction, saying, “Possible preogress being made in talks with North Ko- rea. For the first time in many years, a serious effort is being made by all parties concerned. The World is watching and waiting! May be a false hope, but the U.S. is ready to go hard in either direction!” If we do know what happens, we will later know in the next edition.

Steve Harvey is a world known comedian and talk show host. He is mostly known from being the host of the family jeopardy, “Family Feud.” He was born as Broder- ick Stephen Harvey on Janu- ary 17, 1957. His childhood was “Va-Va-Voom” because he had a stutter when pronouncing the “V” in volca- no. He has written many self- help books, including “Act Like a Lady.” Before he was famous, he wanted to become a professional boxer. At the beginning of his career, he had a sitcom titled “The Steve Har- vey Show.” He is still on T.V. and making people laugh..

hat is the meaning of Easter? The meaning of Easter is to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Many people call it a moveable feast because it doesn’t fall on a set day each year like many holidays do. Many people may ask, “ If it is to celebrate Jesus’ death, then why does it include candy and Easter eggs as a way to celebrate it?” We included those kind of things to help celebrate the holiday because spring symbolizes new life and rebirth, so Easter eggs would relate to new life. There is no true meaning to why we include Easter bunnies and candy to this holiday. East- er is a great way to focus on what is important in life.

The Teachers decided to take an eight day stand on Febru- ary 22, 2018 in West Virginia. The teachers demanded a 5% raise, so they didn’t show up to school until they got the raise. 55 counties had to call the schools out because of this power- ful strike. Before the strike, teachers packed lunches for the students and arranged health care for them. Many parents joined the protest to help out the teachers. Gov. Jim Justice, who was an elected Democrat, but then switched to a republi- can, agreed to a 5% raise, which was a bump from 1% he’d signed off on days earlier. It was also required for the legisla- ture to sign off too. The Senate is refusing to go along with wages and isn’t working hard towards health care spending. The teachers couldn’t have had a successful protest without each other by their sides. The teachers and anyone who joined them, made a great stand for what they believed in, and could- n’t have done it any better.

After a deadly mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida High school, stores are raising the minimum age to buy fire- arms. In the weeks following the deadly shooting, Wal- Mart and Dick’s Sporting Goods have came out speaking on their decisions. Both of the stores have raised the age limit to buy fire arms and ammunitions to 21. Not only are they raising the age limit to 21, but they have re- moved any items that resemble assault style rifles.

 The instrument of the month for April is mayonnaise.

 This instrument originated in the deep, deep sea in a forsaken land called “Bikini Heading Bottom.”

 Yes, mayonnaise is an in- strument. DON’T TELL ME OTHERWISE.

 Mayonnaise is good for sandwiches, slapping, mak- ing stress balls, eating.

 Mayonnaise tastes really bad.

 It is a very good facial cleanser. It cleans out your pores and makes you feel nice and fresh.

-one cup of tapioca pearls -4 cups freshly brewed strong black tea -1 tablespoon -ice cubes -1/2 cup whole

You will need to soak the tapioca pearls as to what the instructions on the package say. Since you should have already brewed your tea. You will need to add the sugar to the tea, and then stir. Once you have completed that you will want to put the drink in the refrigerated for about two hours. Now that it has been two hours you may add your tapioca balls and add some ice to enjoy a yummy drink!

From the words of Arika, “It’s really hard on me… it’s just, he's my teacher and *cries* *struggles with life* “I just want a stronger friendship with him, but that can’t happen when he goes around giving people jolly ranchers. So this is all Kavelman’s fault!” - Arika Bone

Storm In The Heartland (Lainis favorite) The Stolen Oscar??

During Oscar Sunday (March 4th, 2018) Frances McDormand was named best actress. But that little gold- en statue she got that night briefly disappearing during the Governor's Ball. Terry Bryant had recorded himself getting his photo taken by a photographer, when one of those photographer noticed something different about him. That wasn’t his Oscar. What baffles the police is how he got inside. Police re- port that he was a ticket holder for the Ball and slipped inside the party, snatching the Oscar and disappearing with it. He could be facing three years in jail if convicted guilty of this intentionally. He is due back in court after he was bailed because of a risk about missing a flight. One of Bryant’s speakers to help him get less time stated that he was a “sweet, gentle man of faith”. She (Ms. Levy, the speaker,) also added “...perhaps his story is a commentary on our whole society and its obsession with its 15 minutes of fame.”

I recently read the book Dear Martin by Nic Stone. It is about a young high school student who is African-American. Dur- ing the time of the story African-Americans struggle fitting in with society and with equal rights. Justyce is trying to save his friend but he gets arrested. Justyce struggles to cope with get- ting arrested so he begins writing a journal to Dr. Martin Luther King. One day Justyce goes on a ride with his bud, jamming with the music turned up all the way. A white police officer does not like what the two boys are doing so he fire his gun. Now you should read this book in order to find out what happens next.

I don’t really fit in and I don’t know what to do about it.” Dear Anonymous, Middle school is rough time when it comes to popularity and fitting in, I recommend trying to talk to people you haven’t had interest in before. Sometimes you can find friendship in the oddest ways. Another suggestion is find- ing someone who you think is nice and try getting close to them, you could possibly make friends with that person or even make friends with their friends. When it comes to finding friends and fitting in it can be hard. Sometimes fitting in is not worth the effort it takes; if you find yourself a good friend or even friend group you should be okay. ~Annie

I recently got done reading the book Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone. This book is a bout a girl with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). and her brain makes her think differently. She has to take medicine to make her sleep and make her brain think normally. She also has to go to a coun- selor every Wednesday. She imagines things and does unordinary things. As she finally finds someone who excepts her for who she is, something she finds out hurts her more than ever. Samantha and her new boyfriend are happy until he finds out something extremely shocking. Read this book to find out just what that something is. (Developing News):: Korea and the U.S. have agreed finally to talking about nuclear dissarment, and will be meeting in May. North and South Korea has came to the conclusion years ago about getting rid of their nuclear weapons, but they failed to keep their promise. Our own president has decided that he would meet this month, saying that he would try his hard- est to come to a satisfying ending, while also mak- ing sure Korea comes to get rid of their nuclear weapons. Although the two leaders have been throwing insults left and right at each other, they have all came to the conclusion to meet. I’m not shocked that the world is surprised. Anyway, we will be covering this again next month in the May Edition of Circuit Rider. On April 20th, 1999, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris went on a shooting spree, killing 13 people and wounding 20; they ended their rampage by turning their guns on themselves. At the time of this event, this was considered the worst High School shoot- ing in U.S. history.

Columbine is considered to be the event that brought school shootings truly into the public eye. Some prompted to even say this tragedy brought about the popularity of school shootings in the U.S.

Since Columbine happened there has been at least 50 attempted or accomplished mass shooting tak- en place at schools. Many people bring up gun con- trol when it comes to these topics. Others think that gun control wouldn’t lessen the amount of shootings that happen. Whether or not you are with or against gun control the safety of us kids should be the main focus. Trinity

We all know that everyone puts candy in Easter eggs, which isn’t a bad thing, but you can also put more fun and interesting things in there. The list of candies you could put in the eggs is endless, so I will only name a few. You could out a few Jellybeans, Starbursts, Jolly Ranchers, mini , , 3 Musketeers, or Milky way, M&M’s, Choc- olate Eggs, Robin Eggs, etc. You could also find a cute bracelet, neck- lace, or ring for girls. There could be eggs filled with earrings, pencil top- pers, magnets, clips, erasers, confetti, bouncy balls, socks, putty, hair bands, etc. The options can range from toddlers to teens. We all know that it is the 21st century and we aren’t really interested in things that don’t have to do with our phones, so there are even options for that. You could get Pop Sockets, Ear Buds, Chargers, Micro-Lense Camera Clips, Phone Stands, Mini Portable Chargers, Car Charging Attachment Pieces, and many more. Have fun with some more creative Easter Egg findings this year!

Google Classroom is an app that many schools use, including ours. This app lets the student see what they did in the classroom if they were absent. Also, teachers may even post extra credit for anyone that checks their Google Classroom. Many teachers, too, put assignments that you have to do during class on Google Classroom; writing assignments often get put on there so you wouldn’t have to write it all down. Here are some fellow quotes from the Circuit Rider staff: Emma: “It’s very helpful and easy to access and use.”

Natalie: “I can get homework”

Anna: “Its really helpful. I made one for my mom so she can see what activities I have everyday”

Laini: “It helps me with my work and helps me get extra credit in History and in Band.

This is Where it Ends is a book about a school shooting. Personally, this is my fa- vorite book that I have ever read. This book has four - five main characters. It takes you through there personal feelings on a tragic day of a school shooting. One of my favorite characters is Autumn. I can relate to her in the way she handled some situations. If I were to rate this book I would give it a 10/10.

On April 22,1970, millions of people protested the negative impacts of 150 years of industrial development. According to CNN, “In the US and around the world, smog was becoming deadly and evidence was growing that pollution led to develop- mental delays in children. Biodiversity was in decline as a result of the heavy use of pesticides and other pollutants.” Earth Day is now occurring each year. It is a day to help make Earth a bet- ter and healthier place. Countries including are working to make laws that will reduce the amount of pollution that is in the air. This statement was published by CNN, “Educating and action are the two most valuable steps we can take to protect our plan- et. Earth Day is the day to start.”

LJHS Circuit Rider April 2018 Easter Stories Tyrone is deathly scared of the Easter bunny. When he was little his mother took him to an egg hunt. As little Tyrone was running he bumped into the Easter bunny, and the bunny’s head toppled over. When the decapitated bunny attempted to pick him up, he kicked with all his might and ran away crying. Now Laini has found out his secret and she’s dressed up as an Easter bunny hiding in the shadows awaiting her moment to pounce. However, Natalie planned on stopping Laini. Natalie was running to catch up to him. Tyrone was already rounding the corner, it was too late for him to be saved by anyone. In a flash Laini jumped out at Tyrone knocking him to the ground. He began to spastically punch and kick. The bunny’s head once again toppled off and Tyrone jumped to his feet and kicked as far away as possible then ran away.
