Imreoir to Bainisteoir Exhibition Launched at the GAA Museum
Imreoir to Bainisteoir exhibition Launched at the GAA museum The GAA Museum’s new exhibition celebrates individuals to have won All-Ireland titles as both a player and manager including six camogie recipients Few GAA players win All-Ireland medals and even fewer go on to repeat the feat as a team manager. A new exhibition at the GAA Museum celebrates this unique club of players. Imreoir to Bainisteoir features memorabilia, film footage and imagery from the 30 players who have achieved All-Ireland success both on the field and from the sidelines. There are 13 hurlers, 11 footballers and six camogie players who have claimed All-Ireland medals as a player and manager. The group includes legends such as Mick O’Dwyer, Kevin Heffernan, Brian Cody and Ann Downey. Imreoir to Bainisteoir recognises the amazing achievements of these players and gives fans the opportunity to remember some of the most exciting players and teams in the history of Gaelic Games. Speaking at today’s launch Uachtarán Chumann Lύthchleas Gael, Aogán Ó Fearghail said: “It is with great pride that I open this new exhibition and I hope GAA fans from Ireland and beyond will visit and celebrate these GAA Legends. All sporting codes need heroes and without doubt, the players honoured here are some of the greatest of all time. It will be interesting to see if a new name will be added to this unique group anytime soon!” Players showcased in the exhibition have achieved their double success in different ways. Mick O’Dwyer led Kerry to eight All-Ireland titles in 13 seasons and won four All-Irelands with the Kingdom as a player. -

This year our Senior Championship was played on a new (or was it the old) system and it proved to be a great success, bringing great freshness and a renewed interest in hurling to the Division. We were treated to a number of very close enjoyable games, culminating in taday's unique final pairing of Burgess and Kildangan. Both of these team have come from Intermediate ranks as recently as 2004 and 2005 so a new Club name will be inscribed on to the Frank McGrath Cup in 2008. Kildangan's two previous successes were before the present Trophy came into being in 1962. With little form to go on, 1 look forward to a cracking, sporting game and I wish both learns the best 01 luck. -

Run by the Wellie Race Co Ltd CHY 17453
Castlecomer Run by the Wellie Race Co Ltd Twinned with CHY 17453 Penvénan France Messages from the Clergy It is indeed a great honour to be asked to write some lines of reflection on what New Year’s Day 2016 will mean to the people of Castlecomer and the many hundreds of visitors to our town on that day. At a time when many organisations and associations are finding it harder to get people to give of their precious time to a particular project, however worthy it may be, Castlecomer Wellie Race Committee are fortunate in having no shortage of committee members who rally behind the great social and festive day annually. It is an undertaking that our town can be very proud of and one we should never take for granted. In the months leading up to New Year’s Day the organising committee meet on a regular basis to plan every detail of the day in order to ensure that all who make their way to Castlecomer especially families will not be disappointed with the variety of entertainment on offer and of course the highlight is always the float parade that never fail to reach new heights of creativity and topicality as well. To begin the New Year with a day devoted to fun, friendship and the raising of great sums of money for so many good causes is indeed a noble way and deeply Christian beginning to another year. To all our visitors, I wish you in the name of the parish of Castlecomer good health and peace all through the historic year of 2016. -
