A transfer is provided to Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, your home for the next three nights. Kakslauttanen is one of the world’s best places to observe the northern lights since there is virtually no light pollution and very few trees obscuring the sky nearby. At the breathtaking Kakslauttanen Resort above the arctic circle, spend all 3 nights in your very own upgraded accommodation – Kelo Glass Igloos with a full bathroom, sauna, fireplace, and kitchen in the new West Village area. These Kelo Igloos are the most top of the line accommodations offered at the resort. Typically accommodating 6 people, this tour ensures a spacious experience with 2 UofL passengers per igloo that features an unique glass dome bedroom (see map above and image on pg.3). 2 Kelo Glass Igloo Accommodations Depart the resort this afternoon for a Husky Safari that provides a winter equipment fitting. Your guide will introduce you to the friendly dogs who are eagerly waiting in front of the sleds. Husky dogs love running and can’t wait to get going! Your guide will give instructions on how to stop, turn, and drive the husky sled pulled by several dogs. The sled is for two people – one is seated in the sleigh, the other is standing and driving in the back (you may swap drivers half way). You will enjoy riding in the wintry forest as much as the dogs! After arriving at the farm and thanking your dogs for the adventure together, it’s time to enjoy a hot drink and some husky stories. Later this evening we’ll depart the hotel and head out in search for the Aurora Borealis – casting their magical glow across the Arctic Sky. Included Meals | Breakfast, Dinner Day 4 – Wednesday, January 26 – Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort Your day begins with a relaxing Reindeer Safari, the authentic way to experience the arctic wilderness and culture. Your guide will provide thermal outfits at the farm. After a photo opportunity with the reindeer, it’s time to sit comfortably in the sled under warm blankets and head into the wilderness. Relax and breathe in the fresh air and listen to the soundscape of the arctic wilderness. After the ride, you will visit a Husky Safari traditional reindeer herder’s shelter and home “kota” to enjoy coffee prepared on open fire and a Finish treat as you learn about the fascinating nature and culture of the region. This afternoon visit Santa’s Resort. Mrs. Claus will greet you by the reindeer fence and take you to Santa’s cozy and beautiful crafted home where you can experience Christmas all year! Meet the legend Santa Claus himself, then visit the impressively decorated Celebration House where you will enjoy a hot drink. Keep your eyes peeled – you might see some elves along the way! Reindeer Safari Tonight relax and unwind in one of Kakslauttanen’s Smoke Saunas, the traditional Finnish wellbeing experience. Sauna is an integral part of Finnish culture. For centuries, it has been a place for physical and spiritual cleansing. Kakslauttanen’s traditional smoke saunas are heated for hours for the optimal experience. Step in, smell the wood, and feel the comfortable warmth and moisture on your skin. Afterwards, you may wish to take a cool dip in the Ice Pool, only steps away from the sauna. ABSTRACT In 2012, as part of World Design Capital program, Kamppi Chapel of Silence was inaugurated at the entrance of Kamppi shop- ping centre in Helsinki, providing a place for citizen’s moment of silence, relax and meeting in the busiest area. These facts raise questions: What was the real aim behind this? Is this the result of citizens’ wishes to be with God, undisturbed by tou- rists? A strategy for attracting more Christians in multi-religious society? A new way of Lutheran charity in service to needy people? My paper analyses relationship between architectural forms and emotions in sacred spaces through historical Finnish churches.
