DEAR FRIENDS: As I began composing this letter, I realized how quickly my first year has passed as Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. It has been a year with many OUR rewarding moments, as well as some Nate Spera challenges. Though this past fiscal year Will Armstead was one of transition, we made solid progress on many fronts such as building out MISSION… strategic platforms and establishing exciting new ones with our board of directors. To enable all I am honored to be just the fourth CEO in our 22 year history. This legacy of leadership is a tribute to the success and stability of the board of directors, and to young people, the shared belief in the importance of providing a safe place for youth who need us especially those most to learn, grow and play. I am truly humbled to lead the incredibly talented and dedicated people who work for the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. who need us most, One challenge we all face is the growing demand and need for mentors and to reach their volunteers. Therefore, one bold step in our three year strategic plan is to grow our volunteer base by 150 this upcoming year. 4 | FY 2015-2016 ANNUAL REPORT Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County ABOUT OUR CLUBS For over 22 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County has been at the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances. With 17 locations throughout the county, we are able to serve over 6,000 youth annually with our afterschool, summer and outreach programming such as truancy.

Our vision is to provide a world class Club experience, assuring that success is within reach for every young person who walks through our doors, with Club members on track to graduate high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship and living healthy lifestyles.

Belonging to a Boys & Girls Club nurtures young people’s self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence, and competence.

LION KING PLAY SUMMER SUCCESS STORY Mariuxi “Mary” Baez a 15 years old who attends Lincoln Park Academy was a huge help to the Teen Program at our Ken Pruitt Unit. She took on a leadership role and spearheaded a Club drama production, the Lion King. Not only did Mary have a lead 268 TEENS SERVED role, she also donated a tremendous amount of paint to get the cast’s makeup complete. Despite personal misfortunes throughout the summer, Mary managed to attend the Club with a smiling face, positive attitude, and unmatched motivation. As a Junior Staff participant she is always willing to help the Membership Clerk, Unit Director, and any other Staff who seeks assistance. We are blessed to have such an amazing Teen attending our program. Scholarshipped (93.28%) Paid (6.72%)

ctober 28th 2016 the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County opened its first ever Teen Center located at 3104 Ave. K, Fort Pierce FL 34947, adjacent to the Williams Center and main Garden Terrace Unit. The Teen Center'sO boasts five rooms in addition to a full kitchen. The 5 rooms consist of a Business and Career Center, Office/ Youth boardroom, Games Room, Arts Room and Music Room.

The Business Center is used for homework help and has laptops available for teens to utilize for classwork. It’s also used to focus on Career Launch throughout the year. Allowing teens to continuously hone their interview skills, work on resume building and offer career interest assessments. Lyricism 101, a program that gives teens an opportunity to tell their stories, build community and express their artistic visions through the music of hip- hop culture and the culture of the cipher is offered in the music room. Additionally the arts room has over 10 sewing machines and hosts a fashion design program.

This past summer it became very clear with over 150 registered teens at the Garden Terrace Unit that additional space was needed to accommodate the growing teen population. The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County recognizes the importance of providing the teens of Fort Pierce with a dedicated safe, fun and exciting space to learn, play and excel. Therefore, the Garden Terrace Unit partnered with the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Pierce to make this Teen Center a reality. With the help of volunteers from Coca Cola Beverages, Kohl’s, and Enterprise Holdings, funding provided by the Children Services Council, Representative Larry Lee Jr. and other individual donors and materials provided by the Home Depot and Walmart Distribution Center and Transportation, the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County was able to renovate this space successfully, specifically around teen interests.

eing named the Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year is the highest honor a member can receive. Each candidate endures a rigorous application and essay process, including interviews with community leaders. We wereB incredibly proud of each member who pursued the honor, and were happy to name Aleshia A. Johnson of our Infinity Unit as the 2016 Youth of the Year.

At the time of the competition Aleshia was a junior at Fort Pierce Westwood High School and a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County for approximately three years. Aleshia is a hardworking, enthusiastic student who has maintained a 3.5 GPA since middle school. She is active in the girls’ basketball team, theater, and is the lead Junior Staff at the Infinity Unit. She has earned over 275 service hours serving as a lead on projects such as neighborhood and park clean-ups, a Police and Fire Safety Day, Day for Kids, and Infinity’s Worldwide Day of Play. Aleshia plans to attend Florida State University and pursue a career in Business with a concentration on Real Estate. Aleshia desires to become an entrepreneur. Due to her independent, loveable and hardworking personality we know a Great Future is ahead for Aleshia. CHILI COOK-OFF The 34th Annual Chili Cook-off was held on Saturday, July 16th, 2016. This year’s family friendly event held at the Fenn Center raised over $62,000. Thousands of guests attended the Chili Cook-off which is now in its 34th year. Over thirty teams from the local community competed with the “Academy Award Winning Films” theme for awards based on chili, team spirit and fundraising. Harbor Community Bank came in 1st Place for fundraising with over $7,000 and also won the overall Challenge Trophy. The 1st Place Jim Lamb SAVE THE DATE Memorial Award for best Chili was awarded to St. Chili Cook-Off Lucie Mets, 2nd Place went to the Board of County July 15th 2017 Commissioners and in 3rd Place Christ Fellowship PSL. “We congratulate the winning teams but most Fenn Center importantly we thank everyone who participated in the event, including teams, volunteers, board members, staff, sponsors and the community at large.

DAY FOR KIDS Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County celebrated “Day for Kids,” Saturday September 10th at the Boys & Girls Clubs Chuck Hill Unit located at 198 NW Marion Ave, PSL. Hundreds of families showed up to participate in the annual family event highlighting the value of meaningful time between caring adults and children. The celebration began at SAVE THE DATE 10am and stayed busy until the end at 2pm. Families enjoyed face painting, Day for Kids giant jenga, corn-hole, bead bracelet making, live entertainment, bounce September 9th 2017 houses, a basketball tournament, and Location: TBD many other fun activities.

CHUCK HILL GOLF CLASSIC The 20th Annual Chuck Hill Golf Classic was held at Club Med, Sandpiper Bay Golf Club Saturday, October 15th 2016. With the support of 104 energetic golfers, community partners, long time golf chair, Charles Cuomo, and his hardworking committee the Club was able to raise $20,000. Golfers experienced perfect weather and a great day of golf, filled with competition, fun, prizes and fellowship. Accolades were given to Travis SAVE THE DATE Leonard for winning the men’s longest drive, Pat Ayres for winning the women’s longest drive, Chuck Hill Golf Classic Scott VanDuzer Jr. for winning the men’s closest October 7th 2017 to the pin and the A&G Concrete Pools, Inc. team CLUB MED, Sandpiper Bay who shot 14 under par, the best score of the day.

STEAK & STAKE It was a full house at the Santa Lucia River Club Ballantrae for the 9th Annual Steak & Stake Dinner and Auction presented by Lee Plastic Surgery & Laser Center. Over 250 guests enjoyed a one-of- kind futuristic event organized by Co-Chairs, Tricia Lee & Jason Hoffman. Guests were able to interact with Club members while they relished a delectable Steak dinner compliments of Outback Steakhouse followed by a delicious dessert provided by The Cake SAVE THE DATE Lady. Throughout the night guests bid on a multitude of unique live and silent auction items, took their Steak & Stake chance at a Grand Raffle and answered a call to the October 27th 2017 heart appeal. The Steak & Stake Dinner and Auction Location TBD brought in over $86,000 for programming thanks to the generosity of sponsors and guests. Entertainment was provided by members of the Boys & Girls Clubs Infinity and Ken Pruitt Units, Wild Roses and Traxx Entertainment. Club members dazzled guests with a dance and fashion show wearing unique costumes and accessories they made themselves.
