Even though I don't speak German, The instrumentation is perfect. Kekinos This is the great, epic debut. They had this amazing drag to their sound that others didn't have. Manuella Zwigman's drumming was catchy and simple which really gives a solid backing and real character base to the songs. Each album by X-mal has a unique character, this one is bleak, brilliant with no filler songs. This stands as one of the great albums of the time. Arilak Classic debut from X-Mal, the vinyl sounds so much better than the flat CD release. Lestony Interesting. Yeah 4AD is often quoted with the same old favourites (fine, but they weren't the only ones carrying the label). Other deserving 4AD groups lurk in the background. As you say the first Modern English album is brilliant, Clan of Xymox were a passionate and fun alternative to other, lighter electronic bands. There are also later good but 'lost' 4AD musicians (Richenel's single 4AD hit and Vinnie Miller!!!). Rivik Orient sounds distorted on all 4ad records, i think it was production error or something, i can hear it on my record as well.
