    Library - A History Theo Braganza Exactly a year after Dr.H.D.Kanga passed away ie on 29th December 1945, friends and well wishers got together to started a fund to perpetuate the name of Dr.Kanga. Under the chairmanship of the Vice Presidents of the the Bombay Cricket Association, Mr.H.M.Mehta and Mr.A.A.A.Fyzee, an appeal was sent out for contributions. The response was tremendous, the first to respond was the Tata Sports Club, among the other clubs were the Brothers Club, B.E.S.T. Sports Club, Zoroastrian Cricket Club, KhatauSports Club, Fort Vijay Cricket Club, Law College Gymkhana, Bombay University Sports Board, Cricket Association of Bengal,Bombay Telephone Co.C.C., B.B.& C.I. Rly., Traffic Dept. C.C., Ghatkopar Jolly Cricket Club, Wellington Cricket Club and PathareShatriya C.C. Among the Maharajas were Maharaja of Porbandar, Duleepsinhji, Prince Fatehsinhji of Limdi and Thakore Saheb of Dhrol, eminent individuals included messrs: A.A.Jasdenvala, Lady Saklatwala, Vijay Merchant, Anthony De Mello, M.K.Mehta, M.M.Amarsingh, H.N.Contractor, Bhogilal Shah, J.Birtwistle, R.A.Wagle, Vimadalal, P.E.Palia, KS.Ragarao and B.A.Kapadia, a sum of Rs.9,619.00 was collected. Under BCA and the chairmanship of Mr.A.A.Jasdenvala a committee was formed comprising of H.N.Contractor, Vijay Merchant, V.M.Chandrana, S.N.Mehta, V.J.Divecha, Col.K.M.Mistry, Bhogilal C.Shah, S.M.Khatkhatay, M.S.Naik and D.P.Thanawalla. This committee in May 1950 sanctioned Rs.6500 / - for purchase of books and periodicals to start a library in the name of Dr.Kanga.

    Mumbai Cricket Association FROM THE DESK OF THE TREASURER I take pleasure to present before you the audited financial reports comprising Balance Sheet as at 31st March 2014 and the income and expenditure for the year 2013-14 together with schedules and notes to accounts. The annual accounts for this year come to you almost within one year after presenting the audited accounts for the previous year. The year had witnessed certain remarkable events briefly listed below, 1. The Association has restructured various local tournaments with effect from the Cricket season of 2013-14. Dr H. D. Kanga Elite and Plate League matches were played during the period from September 2013 to March 2014. 2. Prize and awards for the period from 2008 to 2013 were distributed during a function held in May 2013 after a gap of six years. 3. A test match was hosted between India and West Indies during November 2013 which was 200th Test Match of legendary Cricketer Shri. Sachin Tendulkar who retired from playing Cricket amidst a great gathering of VIPs and spectators. 4. The prestigious Sports and Recreation Centre at Mahavirnagar (Kandivali) was inaugurated on 3rd December 2013 which is named as Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana. As regards the financial position, salient features are as under: JThe financial year 2013-14 has posted a deficit of Rs. 75.11 lacs after depreciation of Rs.32.70 Cr. and reversal of income of Rs. 83.87 lacs booked earlier as monthly compensation receivable from Garware Club House due to pendency of an agreement between MCA and GCH.

Now, the banks have introduced a fantas4c, all-singing, all dancing system that checks the details of the person/ company you are paying before your money is sent - next thing you know they will be opening places where you can go in and talk to real people. Anyway, over half of you who have tried to send me your payment have had the message that either the account does not exist or that they have a ‘similar’ account and at your risk you can use that one. Well, this was becoming frustra4ng so I called my bank, I was only on hold for 34 hours, but then I managed to ask the Customer Service Advisor (cashier in my day or ‘Till Number 4’) why payers were having trouble, I was asked the following: “Are you sure you gave the payer your correct details?’ Followed by “Maybe they typed your details in incorrectly.” And then, aYer much frustra4on.. “We aren’t finding this to be a common problem.” At which point I escalated my query into a complaint and asked for a Manager - two days later I received a call from ‘said Manager’ who informed me quite quickly that this was an ongoing problem across the new system and the bank would like to apologise for any inconvenience.
