The Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow was founded in 1991 on the initiative of prominent Russian conductor Evgeny Kolobov (b.1946-d.2003) and Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and soon won recognition as a leading opera house in Russia. The artistic creed of the theatre can be defined as enthusiastic creative quest and bold innovation.The Novaya Opera has the original repertoire based on the musical versions by Evgeny Kolobov: Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila, "O Mozart! Mozart..." (based on the opera Mozart and Salieri by Rimsky-Korsakov and Mozart's Requiem), Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Verdi’s La Traviata, and includes such popular operatic works as : Rimsky-Korsakov's The Snow Maiden and The Tsar’s Bride, Rubinstein’s The Demon, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Bellini’s Norma, Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Verdi’s Nabucco and Rigoletto, Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana, Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci, Wagner’s Lohengrin. The Novaya Opera was the first in Russia to stage Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, Catalani’s La Wally, Verdi’s I Due Foscari, Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov (in the first composer’s adaptation), Thomas’ Hamlet. The new theatrical genre was created: it is the original artistic image of famous composers and musicians (“Maria Callas”, “Viva Verdi!”, “Vincenzo Bellini”,”Richard Wagner”, “Rossini”, “Bravissimo!”). Novaya Opera has over 70 operatic and concert productions in its repertoire. The Novaya Opera Theatre is noted for its innovative approach to scenography and stage direction. It works with renowned masters of the theatre art to make productions in different genres and styles. -

Interactive Multimedia Solutions Developed for the Opening of the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre Nikolay Borisov, Artem Smolin, Denis Stolyarov, Pavel Shcherbakov St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, Saint Petersburg State University Abstract. This paper focuses on teamwork by the National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (NRU ITMO) and the Aleksandrinsky Theatre in preparation of opening of the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. The Russian State Pushkin Academy Drama Theatre, also known as the Alexandrinsky Theatre, is the oldest national theatre in Rus- sia. Many famous Russian actors performed on the Alexandrinsky’s stage and many great directors. May 2013 marked the opening of the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. The theatre complex comprises three buildings: the new stages building, a media center, and the building housing a center of theatre ed- ucation. Several plays shown simultaneously on multiple stages within the new complex’s buildings constituted the opening gala of the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. The works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky were the plays’ uni- fying theme. NRU ITMO employees developed several interactive theatre pro- ject solutions implemented for the opening of the Alexandrinsky Theatre’s New Stage. FILMS is a production company based in Barcelona, created in 2013 by Carlota Coloma and Adrià Lahuerta. They produce documentaries for cinema and other platforms, and for agencies and clients who want to explore the documentary genre in all its possibilities. Their productions have been selected and awarded in many festivals: MiradasDoc, Milano International Documentary Festival, HotDocs and DOCSMX among others. They have been selected to participate in several workshops and pitches such as: IDW Visions du Réel; Cross Video Days; Docs Barcelona. ABRA ENSEMBLE Hall I + Abra Ensemble (Performance Space Exhibition) ABRA Ensemble's works aspire to undermine existing power structures as they express themselves in the voice, language patterns and ways of speech. They seek rather communal, feminist strategies of composition, listening and creative-coexistence. Exposing the emergence of the music itself, ABRA Ensemble bridges the existing limits between contemporary virtuoso vocal art and the performative, transformative encounter with an audience. ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: EMANCIPATION FROM DOUBLETHINK? POST- SOVIET POLITICAL PARTIES AND LEADERSHIP Peter Voitsekhovsky, Doctor of Philosophy, 2013 Dissertation directed by: Professor Vladimir Tismaneanu Department of Government and Politics This study examines the phenomenon of doublethink as a core feature of the “mental software” that continues to define the character of post-Soviet societies. It is revealed in patterns of prevarication and equivocation that characterize the thinking and behavior of both the elites and the masses. Doublethink is also manifested in incongruous values and duplicitous rules that prevail in society. It accounts for the perpetuation of simulative and fake institutions of “façade democracy.” Political parties in post-Soviet Ukraine are analyzed as a major example of simulative and imitative institutions. Here, traditional ideology-based party taxonomies prove misleading. Political parties are quasi-virtual entities with the character of “post- Orwellian political machines”: they operate in a topsy-turvy world of imitated supply and deluded demand. The study employs three levels of analysis: macro (surveys data and “Tocquevillean” observations); meso (biographical data and political discourse analysis); and micro (in-depth interviews).
