The Ministry of Education has approved the use of locally-developed compulsory courses. These courses have been developed to meet the educational needs of students whose skills fall below grade level. It is a guided approach to learning using practical examples and concrete objects. Each student’s strengths and needs will determine appropriate pathways through secondary school and in the school-to-work transition.

Register by January 31st  You MUST submit a YRDSB registration form to be able to attend NHS next year!  All registration forms (and transfer forms, if applicable) are due to home secondary schools (according to attendance area) by Friday, January 31, 2020  Students who are (or will be) living in the Newmarket High School attendance area and are NOT currently attending one of our YRDSB elementary partner schools (see list above) should arrange to submit all required registration documents to Sarah Best (X507) in the Main Office at NHS by January 31st

Submit your course requests online through “My Pathway Planner” by February 24th  Students will submit their course requests during the “Lock In” window from Wednesday, February 12th to Monday, February 24th  Students submit their course requests once only during the “Lock In” window. Note: once submitted, course selections can only be changed by contacting your Guidance Counsellor

Submit a signed final hard copy of your course requests by February 26th  Once submitted, students print the Course Selection Sign Off Sheet, have it signed by their parent/guardian, and return it to their YRDSB Grade 8 teacher or to Newmarket High School

TIPS FOR ONLINE COURSE SELECTION in ‘MY PATHWAY PLANNER’  Access the Course Selection tool in ‘My Pathway Planner’: From the Newmarket High School website: www.yrdsb.ca/schools/newmarket.hs click on:

Login using your YRDSB student number and password. Be sure to select the EDU domain. From your Dashboard, click on the View Courses button that appears in the Course Selection box at the top left. Note: The button will say Plan Courses until the Course Submission “Lock In” window opens. You will now be in your High School Planner.

 Add Courses for Next Year in High School Planner: click + [Course] In the Course Selection and Details screen, explore the available courses. The Graduation Indicator will help you keep track of your progress. Click View Progress for a list of specific graduation requirements.

 Review & Submit Courses: Prior to submitting, click the Review Course Selections button and give your selections one final look over. When you are satisfied with your selection, click on Submit Course Selections.

 Print Sign-Off Sheet: Print and return a signed copy of your Course Selection Sign-Off Sheet to your Counsellor or Teacher. Note: The sign-off sheet will show in another tab/window. If it doesn’t show after clicking the button, check the pop-up blocker settings for your web browser.
