The Power of Advanced Medicine #BredandRaised 05 EQUINE SAFETY INITIATIVES Please see below for important equine safety initiatives that have been implemented for the 2021 Keeneland April Race Meet. 1. 2021 Keeneland Safety Agreement: This must be signed and submitted to the Stable Office or Racing Office upon arrival. This document will cover all of 2021. Please ensure both you and your veterinarian sign prior to submitting. A valid and signed 2021 agreement must be on file PRIOR to the ac- ceptance of any entry. The agreement can be found online at: www.keeneland.com/safetyagreement 2. Medication Restricted Races: Pursuant to KHRC regulation 810 KAR 8:050 all two (2) year-old races and stakes races will be conducted Lasix-free. Please consult with your veterinarian, Keeneland Equine Safety Director Dr. Stuart Brown or the KHRC if you have any questions regarding this regulation. 3. Pre-Entry Exam: Pursuant to KHRC regulation, all horses must have an exam performed by your veterinarian within the three (3) days preceding a race entry. This exam is to be documented by your veterinarian and he/she will include their findings on their daily treatment records submitted to the KHRC. 4. Pre-Work Exam: All horses must have an exam performed by your veterinarian within the five (5) days preceding a timed workout, per the 2021 Keeneland Safety Agreement. This exam is to be documented by your veterinarian and he/she will include their findings on their daily treatment records submitted to the KHRC or reported to the Keeneland Equine Safety Director. 5. In Today Signage: All horses entered to race must be clearly identified starting at 7:30am on race day with an “In Today” sign. Trainers should hang these signs on the stall door or adjacent to the stall. This is separate from the KHRC Lasix tag hung following Lasix administration. Extra signs are available in the Stable Office. 6. Entry Restrictions: All first time starters 4 years old and older or 3 years old and older with no race within 365 days are required to have an exam and published 5 furlong work in 1:03.00 or faster approved by the Keeneland Equine Safety Director PRIOR to entry. In addition, horses that have not raced in 120 days but less than 365 days must notify the Keeneland Equine Safety Director PRIOR to entry to schedule an exam. 7. Waiver Claiming Rule: Allows a trainer to enter a claiming race but be ineligible to be claimed providing the horse has not started for a minimum of 180 days since its last race and the horse is entered for a claiming price equal to or greater than the price at which it last started. 8. Extracorpeal Shock Wave Therapy or Radial Pulse Wave Therapy: Any horse treated with extracorpeal shock wave therapy, radial pulse wave therapy or similar treatments shall not race or work for a minimum of ten (10) days following treatment. 9. Speed Work Preference Window During Morning Training: Preference will be provided to horses performing officially timed speed works during the first 15 minutes following any renovation breaks. Except in the case of “House Rules”, if there is any discrepancy between the information set forth below and the rules set forth on the KHRC website (www.khrc.ky.gov), the rules on the KHRC website shall govern.
