4 Women in Football

Women Soccer like other forms of the game has never actually got the coverage of their game at grass roots level, even during the times when Banyana banyana were a force in Africa. There was never a proper structure that allowed for the development of the game on the Woman side.

Reporting on the Women game is the best way to put it on the map, and the more ordinary girls at the Township read about the Woman soccer, the more interest to start playing increases just like the man’s game has grown into a favourite sports for ordinary people. Mzansi Soccer Style Magazine intends to follow the Women game to put it on the pedestal it deserves.

THABENG MEDIA The organizers do it out of love of football, to an extent that they will even use their family money to put the games together as part of football development in the townships.

Currently there are numerous such games happening every Easter and December holidays, and they have formed part of the soccer calender where the communities even demand that these games be organised since they have become part of the family holiday past-time and entertainment.

SPONSORSHIPS There are various instances where there is no Financial backing for these off-season games, forcing the organiser to use the teams registration fees as OFF-SEASON part of the prize money. Lack of sponsorship result in the organiser having no money to pay some of the people who are helping Township Soccer with the running of the tournament i.e. team registrations, team lists, record keeping and catering.

These games are held in different townships around the country and they are mainly organised by individual people who could have sourced some sponsorship and invited teams to pay a registration fee and take part in the tournament for prize money. Entertainment These tournaments are very popular in the townships, even more popular than the organised version or league football. At this level everybody is able to attend the matches without much hassle, while with the organised version some people cannot even afford the fare for transport and even unable to pay the required entrance fee at the stadium.

the informal seating and the friendliness at these township venues like the picture above, makes the whole informalness of these games popular with the young and old of the township people. The crowds in these games arrive as early as 09:00 and stay for the whole day as the last game is played around 17:00.

During this period music entertainment is provided while also affording informal businesses an opportunity to display and sell everything from sweets, drinks and meals to the crowds gathered.

7 Ndofaya Easter Challenge 2013

he Ndofaya Easter Challenge is the brainchild of Thabeng Management, that was organised as an Talternative for teams who could not be accommodated at other tournaments due to the limited number of teams required.

Thabeng Management saw it as an opportunity to create an additional platform in as far as the Kasi tournaments are concerned, especially in the Meadowlands(Ndofaya) area where there are lots of teams coming from the surrounding areas wanting to participate in the games.

20 School Football

School Soccer used to be the breeding ground for future stars of the professional league in the 70′s and 80′s until it went into decline. The stars of yesteryears like Jomo Sono, Doctor Khumalo, Patson Banda and others, were discovered playing for their High Schools and they went on to become international stars.

The Government through the department of sports decided to revive school soccer, mainly due to the poor performance of the various national teams and also due to the death of school soccer as the basic structures to prepare future stars.

Mzansi Soccer Style intends to be the vehicle of exposure for the talent displayed at the various school fixtures, by means of reporting on matches played under the auspices of SASFA(South African Schools Football Association).

The Coach called me as a Captain and the vice to com e and speak to the Men standing there with him, about the Woman Soccer in South African Soccer.

I then became interested to speak to him, and he asked me questions about SAFA as a whole and Woman’s Football. I gave him answers as i know them and about my playing for the National Team details while he wrote everything down that i and my vice Mpho gave him.
