Project title: ’s Post‐war architecture, 1945‐1975 Project duration: 10 weeks Description: The in collaboration with the State Library of Queensland, and the firms BVN‐Donovan Hill, Conrad Gargett Riddel and Wilson Architects are conducting research into the post‐war architecture of Queensland (1945‐1975). This research contributes to the development of an online resource on Queensland architecture linking the digital stories (oral histories) of architects who worked and studied in post‐war Queensland with related materials including architectural drawings, photographic representations of completed work, manuscripts, contemporary writings… (www.qldarch.net) The project will culminate in an exhibition on post‐war Queensland architects to be held at the State Library of Queensland towards the end of 2014. This summer scholarship offers students the opportunity to study topics relating to the postwar architectural history of Queensland and to work with collections of primary resources (buildings, drawings, photographs, texts, slides, maps, and people). Summer scholars will be asked to focus on the one hand on gathering data and documentation of particular buildings and projects and on the other hand processing the gathered data and documentation in a meaningful way. This includes developing 3d models of relevant post‐war buildings that have been demolished, creating digital timelines representing Queensland’s post‐war architectural history, … The collected resources and the processed material will be added to the Digital Archive of Queensland Architecture: qldarch.net and will contribute to the development of the 2014 exhibition at the State Library. Expected Resources collected will be added to the Digital Archive of Queensland outcomes and Architecture (qldarch.net) and will contribute to the development of the deliverables: 2014 exhibition at the State Library.

Project title: Exploring novel construction for a prefabricated townhouse Project duration: Four Weeks 25/11/13 to 20/12/13 Four Weeks 27/01/14 to 21/02/14

Eight weeks total Description: A novel form of urban townhouse form has been developed for subtropical applications by Prof Skinner and previously published as RoHo or ToHo. This project adapts this building form to conform with proposed City Plan Building envelope constraints and develops the constructional design and technical documentation to a level that enables detailed engineering, manufacturing and cost analysis Expected Outputs expected from the Summer Scholarship are a set of preliminary outcomes and construction drawings sufficient to enable engineering and cost analysis, and deliverables: a detailed large scale model (1:10) to experiment with fabrication and erection, and to lead to discussions with manufacturers. It is hoped the research project will lead to a field trial of the technique later in 2014. Suitable for: The applicants should be in the Master of Architecture, have good Revit documentation skills, and good model‐making ability. Interest and prior experience in the area of affordable housing will be a benefit.

Project title: Type Site Museum Project duration: 10 weeks Description: This project seeks research scholars to assist with curating the MArch design studio output, as part of an ongoing submission for a future international architecture exhibition on the Type‐Site Museum to be held at the University of Queensland’s Art museum in 2016. The concept of type‐site is adapted from both geological and archaeological discourse, and museography, or the descriptive phase of museological discourse. The application of this linguistic framework allows the tension between content and architecture of the museum to be exposed, and alternative interactions between the two to be suggested. Scholars will work with senior researchers from the Centre for Research on Architectural Design within the School of Architecture, and associated partners including Humboldt University Berlin, UQ Museum Studies Program, and UQ Art Museum Staff. Participants will develop skills in curating architectural and urban research, design and documentation. Expected Scholars will format a schematic design proposal for the future 2016 outcomes and exhibition and produce an edited and illustrated studio publication deliverables: showcasing the studio output of the Semester 02 ARCH 7040 Type‐Site Studio. Suitable for: Positions will be offered to current students enrolled in the MArch program during 2013. Scholars will be expected to have basic skill levels in the Adobe creative suite and drafting software.
