A brisk northeast wind blew into the area over the weekend, ruffling the back of the northbound Gulf Stream. The breeze brought a fairly heavy surf to the city's beaches, and a collection of flotsam and jetsam from the offshore waters. Fine for the surfing crowd, the heavy surf was a bit hard on swimmers and waders at the city beaches where the "HO swimming" flag was flying. Gus Hager, the Weather Buearu's cooperative observer here, said the winds first shifted to the northeast about 3 a.m. Sunday when they were blowing about five to six miles an hour. North- easterly winds continued Monday in the 17-20 mph area and eased off to mostly 8-12 mph yesterday. But all was calm in the sheltered harbor of Lake Boca Raton (below.).
