Statement of use Page 9 of 11 12 August 2019 Authorisation No.: IE/BPA 70185

“A gas fumigant, containing nitrogen (99.99 % v/v), for use only as an insecticide within a sealed fumigation chamber/enclosure (e.g. Controlled Atmosphere Technology (CAT)) for the indoor control of insects and other arthropods by trained professionals only for the protection of stored products, commodities, high-value goods, museum artifacts (such as wooden items and textiles) and machinery”

Instructions for safe handling and use

. Always read the label before use and follow the instructions provided. . Avoid all unnecessary exposure, in particular avoid inhalation. Risk of asphyxia. . The product must be applied in a closed environment. As such the product must be applied into a sealed fumigation chamber/enclosure (such as Controlled Atmosphere Technology (CAT)). . Safe working practices and safe systems of work must be in place to ensure minimum risk. . Prior to fumigation with nitrogen a localised risk assessment must be undertaken to define the fumigation area and risk area. . The use of the product and sealed enclosure is conducted in an area that is secured for authorised personnel trained in the use of nitrogen as a fumigant only. . The areas where treatment takes place must be clearly signed that nitrogen fumigation control is in operation and the area is strictly restricted to authorised personnel. . A trained first aider must be present during treatment. Appropriate supportive first aid equipment must be provided during application and treatment. . The treatment must be conducted in an area that allows for quick and easy ventilation of that area in case of accident or emergency. . The fumigation and risk areas are to be monitored for oxygen levels with visual and audible alarms that indicate when oxygen levels fall below 19.5% v/v. . A visual and audible alarm that indicates when oxygen levels fall below 19.5% v/v is to be worn by the operators during treatment. . The operators must be equipped with an escape breathing apparatus (EBA) or a self- contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or an emergency life support apparatus (ELSA) to allow safe evacuation or escape from the risk area. . This product is to be safely vented from the sealed bubble to the atmosphere after treatment. Wash hands and face after application and use of the product, and before eating, drinking or smoking.

Application Details:

Product application to the sealed fumigation chamber/enclosure must achieve at least a minimum nitrogen concentration of 99.8% v/v (maximum oxygen concentration of 0.2% v/v). Fumigation treatment of target organisms with nitrogen at the levels prescribed above should be maintained for a minimum period of 35 days at 25 C. For every degree Celsius below 20 C a further 24-hours must be added to the exposure time. The nitrogen level and temperature in the sealed fumigation chamber/enclosure during each treatment period must be monitored. Relative humidity will be independent of the treatment time and will be set as required for the item under treatment and/or customer agreement.

The minimum period of 35 days at 25 C, or where the period of treatment is extended due to differences in temperature, do not include preparation or application of the gas to achieve the

Page 10 of 11 12 August 2019

Authorisation No.: IE/BPA 70185

required nitrogen/oxygen concentrations. The exposure period commences once the required nitrogen/oxygen concentration has been achieved.

If the oxygen level increases above 0.2% v/v at any point during treatment, the bubble should be refilled and the exposure period started again. Where levels of oxygen are difficult to maintain at 0.2% v/v or below, it is advised to use oxygen scavengers. In this instance the recommended use of oxygen scavengers is 1 oxygen scavenger per m3 of CAT Bubble (Controlled Atmosphere Treatment).
