MEDIA CONTACT: Fred Tracey Marketing/PR Director 760.643.5217 [email protected] Bets Malone Makes Cabaret Debut at ClubM at the Moonlight Amphitheatre on Jan. 13 with One-Woman Show “Broadway the BROAD Way” Download Art Here Vista, CA (January 4, 2018) – Moonlight Amphitheatre’s ClubM opens its 2018 series of cabaret concerts at its intimate indoor venue on Sat., Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. with Bets Malone: Broadway the BROAD Way. Making her cabaret debut, Malone will salute 14 of her favorite Broadway actresses who have been an influence on her during her musical theatre career. The audience will hear selections made famous by Fanny Brice, Carol Burnett, Betty Buckley, Carol Channing, Judy Holliday, Angela Lansbury, Patti LuPone, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Liza Minnelli, Bernadette Peters, Barbra Streisand, Elaine Stritch, and Nancy Walker. On making her cabaret debut: “The idea of putting together an original cabaret act where you’re standing on stage for ninety minutes straight has always sounded daunting to me,” Malone said. “I’ve had the idea for this particular cabaret format for a few years. I felt the time was right to challenge myself, and I couldn’t be more proud to debut this cabaret on the very stage that offered me my first musical theatre experience as a nine-year-old in the Moonlight’s very first musical Oliver! directed by Kathy Brombacher.” Malone can relate to the fact that the leading ladies she has chosen to celebrate are all attached to iconic comedic roles. “I learned at a very young age that getting laughs is golden,” she said.

Entry Copyright © 2010 glbtq, Inc. Reprinted from http://www.glbtq.com The gay actor and singer Larry Kert originated the lead romantic role of Tony in the landmark 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story. With his expressive, vibrant tenor, he introduced some of the most memorable songs in the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim score, including "Maria," "Tonight," and "Something's Coming." In 1970, Kert triumphed again on Broadway in another Sondheim musical, Company, as Robert, a New York bachelor observing the strains and tensions in the marriages of his best friends, as well as struggling to commit emotionally to each of his three girlfriends. Other Broadway shows involving Kert were unfortunately short-lived, and his later career was devoted mainly to cabaret, television, and regional theater. He was born Frederick Lawrence Kert in Los Angeles, California on December 5, 1930 into a comfortably middle-class family. His father was a jeweler and his mother an actress. He had a brother, Morton, and two sisters, Evelyn and the singer later known as Anita Ellis. He initially attended Hollywood High School but transferred to the Hollywood Professional School in Los Angeles. While still in school, Kert performed as an extra and stunt double in several movies, including Lassie Come Home (1943), where he was a stand-in for the film's star Roddy McDowell. After graduation, Kert took some classes at Los Angeles City College but soon dropped out and moved to New York City where he studied with the celebrated acting teacher Sanford Meisner.

  • Articles from 2016
Preview Shelf Articles for 2016 December 1, 2016 Discovering the Wild Heritage of the Nineteenth State By Dianne Combs It has been a wonderful year of celebration for the state of Indiana. Two hundred years of statehood! We have learned many things about our political and historical heritage, but I believe that Indiana still has many secrets that need to be learned. Here at the library we have some beautiful books that will help you explore the natural history of our great state. “The Natural Heritage of Indiana,” edited by Marion T. Jackson, takes us on a lively jaunt through the terrain of our great state. To my delight, the very first picture in Part One is of the “Honeycomb Rock” at Pine Hills Nature Preserve in the southwestern part of Montgomery County. Glaciation and its effects on our landscape are explained in detail, which helps me to understand all the rock formations I come across while exploring some of our nationally renowned state parks. Throughout this section, written by Henry Gray, we are taken on several tours of Indiana. He describes the terrain as if he were driving along highways and illustrates his discussion with appropriate topographical maps. Our soil and water, wetlands and caves — all these give our state its unique stamp on the map of our nation. Beautiful photographs of the flora and fauna of Indiana fill the pages of this coffee table book. I could spend hours just turning its pages, learning about the native plants and animals with which we share our land. We have recently acquired two copies of “A Place Called Turkey Run — A Celebration of Indiana’s Second State Park in Photographs and Words,” by Daniel P.
