BACKGROUND: : ’s Maritime City

Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City – HYMC is a heritage led regeneration project that will preserve the city’s maritime assets and move Hull forward as a world class visitor destination.

The Project will connect local people and visitors with Hull’s unique maritime history. This will be achieved through the redevelopment of four historic sites: the , the North End Shipyard, the and the Lightship.

An important part of the project’s work is to involve local individuals and communities in as widely as possible and to help to promote skills, learning and employment opportunities across the city. PURPOSE: To plan, develop and manage outreach working with target audiences in the wider community across Hull and region. Manage & deliver outreach and community engagement projects with internal and external partners. Monitor, evaluate & report on this work in line with the HYMC Activity Plan and NLHF requirements and to act as the internal champion for the local community in the development and delivery of the HYMC project. Develop strong external partnerships in the community to inform the work of the project and wider service.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Please note decision making must be included within the Principal Accountabilities 1. Define, develop and coordinate effective means of working with local communities in the development of the HYMC Project Action Plan. Act as internal community champion with every area of the service. 2. Share best practice and train internal teams in effective community engagement practices, 3. Lead on community engagement activities, ranging from simple contributions by local communities, to co-produced and community-led programmes, as defined by the HYMC Activity Plan and board 4. Facilitate HYMC’s engagement programme, and feedback learning and insight to other staff , supporting digital programmes and contributing to social media activities 5. Working closely with museums staff to ensure all community engagement activity and programmes are developed in accordance with appropriate best practice. Ensuring the work complements the activity undertaken in delivery of the NPO business plan. 6. Keeping up to date with all relevant initiatives and the latest research to ensure best practice in community engagement in the service 7. Develop a wide ranging community network to raise the profile of HYMC amongst local communities 8. Research and develop knowledge and insight about local communities and their needs/motivations in order to inform the development of project activities 9. Work closely with the digital and marketing team to support the development of appropriate and effective marketing and communications activity to reach under- represented communities 10. Representation of the project in external forums, presenting at conferences and participating in specialist networks 11. To develop strong and lasting partnerships with community groups across the city by working with Learning Officers, Curators and volunteers ensuring an on-going programme of consultation & evaluation takes place to inform development of the project and wider service 12. Help the project lead and director to maintain good relationship with key bodies and ensure key compliance with funders such as NLHF, , Arts Council etc. 13. To manage a delegated budget and any externally funded projects for which you are a team leader, in line with service financial regulations 14. To report on community engagement activity and performance as required by the HYMC Activity Plan 15. Supervise and manage trainees, students, volunteers and freelance/temporary project staff as necessary 16.
