The ‘hole’ they leave behind will be felt corporately by the various congregations and personally by many folk and in different ways depending on the relationship enjoyed with them and the particular ministry received from them. But Edward and Jane would be the first to encourage us all to carry on confidently on our spiritual journeys. As that familiar Sydney Carter hymn puts it ‘From the old things to the new, keep me travelling along with you’.
