We commit ourselves to the daily practice of pursuing this work. ABOUT THE ARTISTS DYLAN GUERRA (Writer/Performer) is a gay Latinx New York City-based artist originally from Miami, Florida. His work has been seen at Ars Nova, Dixon Place, HERE and other places around the city. You can catch his live true crime podcast Find Him periodically at Ars Nova. He has been a finalist for The Emerging Writers Group at The Public Theater, NBC Universal’s Writers on the Verge Program, The MTC Directing Fellowship, The Drama League Hangar Directing Fellowship and a semifinalist for the Sundance Episodic Television Writers Program. She has worked at Dallas Theater Center, Signature Theatre, Second Stage Theater, Columbia University and LCT3; she has also worked with Playwrights Realm, Barrington Stage and P73. She has assisted and worked on several Off-Broadway productions, and has had the privilege of working closely with artistic heroes like Lila Neugebauer, Evan Cabnet and Will Eno. She recently directed two world premiere productions of Dylan Guerra's at HERE. Before the world shut down, she was assisting Tracy Letts on his Broadway production of The Minutes and will (hopefully) be directing the regional premiere of Sweat by Lynn Nottage in the spring. In this dissertation, I examined current models of new play development in the United States. Looking at Lincoln Center Theater and Signature Theatre, I considered major non-profit theatres that seek to create life-long connections to legendary playwrights. I studied new play development at a major regional theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, and showed how the use of commissions contribute to its new play development program, the Colorado New Play Summit. I also examined a new model of play development that has arisen in recent years—the use of small black box theatres housed in large non-profit theatre institutions.
