Richard O’Brien’s

This event promised to be very special and it SUCCEEDED on two levels. From the outset Richard O’Brien intended that this event not only help children who are suffering from cancer but also help trannies and those that love us to feel respect for ourselves. The event raised over £35,000 (the most successful single event the charity has enjoyed) and from the buzz that has gone around the country I know that those that attended know they were part of a ground breaking event. The organising team have all agreed to repeat the event annually and the next one will be on the 27th Sept 2003 again midday at The Triangle followed by a Ball at the Palace Hotel Manchester. The midday competition will be a “star search” style con- test called High Camp @ High Noon. Eight individuals or groups will be chosen for the competition from audition video tapes or personal auditions at ‘Churchills Manchester’ or ‘WayOut Club London’ over the year pre- ceding the event. All material must have the word ‘high’ in the title. The best act will perform at the ball and along with others will receive a great prize. It is never too soon to get your act together for the competition.and your dress for the ball. UtterlyFABULOUS THEATRE REVIEW

The new wave of musical theatre that has hit the West End recently has been attracting alternative younger people and hippie chic urban / media fashionistas. The wave kicked off with musicals such as Rent, closely followed by the Pet Shop Boys' Closer To Heaven and now Taboo. By Angel Zsa-Tsar Taboo is a product of New Romantic writer Mark Davies and Eighties fashion and music icon Boy George. The name was derived from a nightclub that was once presided over by performance artist Leigh Bowery. This musical skilfully weaves the bulk of the of the movements movers and shakers: Marilyn, Phillip Salon, Steve Strange, Leigh Bowery and Princess Julia and Boy George himself - with fictional characters Billy and Kim. Billy is a wannabe, bi-curious photographer who falls in love with Kim, an aspiring designer who create costumes. These fic- tional elements are beautifully woven in with the real ones in an entertaining and educa- tional way. The first half of Taboo glorifies the struggles and the heights of entertain- ment success and the second half illustrates the downward path of fame and fortune to drugs, loss of dignity and AIDS. However, it doesn't just leave you there, it concludes in India where Boy George and friends go to Bangalore in search of spiritual fulfilment and the meaning of life. Taboo scores high points for portrayal of the characters. Euan Morton is Boy George’s spitting image and sounds exactly like him. Gary Amers and Paul Baker are also great as Marilyn and Phillip Salon in their youth. The part of Leigh Bowery is considered the most vibrant role and over the year has been played by Matthew Lucas, Boy George, Mark Little and currently Julian Clary. All these characters are superbly directed, choreographed and wardrobed. This musical is capable of living forever. The first half really takes off when beautiful Marilyn in Razor heels 'sashays' into the scene singing a rock version of ‘Genocide Peroxide’, a Top 20 hit from Boy George's ‘Cheapness and Beauty’ album. Although some 80's hits such as Visage's ‘Fade To Grey’, Culture Club's ‘Do You Really Want To Hurt Me’ and ‘Karma Karmeleon’are fused into the play, most of the songs are new, fresh and wittingly relevant displaying Boy George's song-writing skills. The show benefits from being the first at ‘The Venue’, London's newest theatre, as one cannot help feel it was purpose built for Taboo. Taboo is a "must see" musical with historical content to give us trannies a sense of our own histo- ry; with fashion tips and lipstick traces to linger over as well as juicy 80’s lingo-banter to keep the nostalgia freaks happy...... TRANSSEXUAL SUPERSTAR NATASHA

Natasha is a model, an exercise guru and a nightclub legend. She rides a motorbike By Pandora De’Pledge and has a fabulously earthy and very sexy attitude to life. She is one of the most successful post-op transsexuals I have ever known. Over the sixteen years we've been friends she has never failed to surprise me, shock me, or make me laugh. She is no stranger to nudity which was best highlighted during the Alternative Miss London contest when she realised she had forgotten her second outfit, so she walked on starkers! She turned up for our cover shoot in jogging bottoms, baggy jumper and no make-up and looked stunning.

One of the nicest things about Natasha is that she may be a beautiful , successful transsexual woman, but as she proved again at the shoot, she's just one of the 'gurls'. Only too happy to mix as an equal with TV's, drag queens and gay guys with none of the "look down your nose at every- one attitude" that many TS's have (giving the rest of us a bad name).

After the shoot, we sat down with a fine Cabernet and I asked her what her plans for Christmas were.

Q. Where will you be spending Christmas? A. With my sister and two nephews ( plus a couple of firemen on a bed of holly! )

Q. What are you hoping Santa will put in your stockings? A. A brand new bondage harness and a 900cc motorbike ( and of course world peace! ).

Q. What are your new-years resolutions? A. As I am currently at drama school, how about winning a BAFTA! .

Q. What advise would you give to young TS's? A. Keep your feet on the ground. You don't have to prove you're a woman, no matter what you look like, if you already ARE one, (and don't forget to take your hormones). Oh yes most importantly ... treat other people, (and animals), how you want to be treated yourself

... poor Cinderfella was being hassled again by her ugly sisters and wicked stepmother, simply because she was young, pretty and didn't have to shave like they did!

She got so fed up with it, she went down to the parlour where she found a glamorous magical woman who was working her way through their drinks cabinet.

After bringing the fairy some paracetamol, the woman explained she was a make-over fairy and she was going to transform Cinderfella and then take her to the ball , (her wicked siblings had said she couldn't go as her arse was too big!).

... The day after the ball, the evil Baroness Ardon kept herself busy bitch-slapping her ugly daughters Conjunctivitus & Chlamydia because they hadn't managed to snag the Prince, (However the Baroness did meet a charming gynaecologist from Ramsgate who was cabbage intolerant!). Cinderfella was keeping herself busy waxing her bikini line and bleaching her upper lip, when suddenly the Prince appeared, waving a pair of platform stillies wildly about his head. He was about to try the shoes on Cinderfella's sisters when he realised their foot odour was worse than their halitosis, so he quickly moved on to Cinderfella, who of course they fitted perfectly! The Prince immediately offered her two weeks abroad with 'Respect Holidays' and no-strings attached!
