4 INTRODUCTION The goal of Hastings County Housing Services is to provide safe, modest and affordable housing for low-income households in Hastings County.

Hastings County Housing Services is a division of the Community and Human Services Department. The majority of funding is provided by Hastings County, with additional funding provided by the Federal and Provincial Governments. This funding provides Hastings County Housing Services with the resources to maintain and administer subsidized rental housing and supplement private sector units within Hastings County.

The Hastings County Social Housing Registry Hastings County Housing Services administers the Hastings County Social Housing Registry. This list provides one, centralized waiting list for social housing in Hastings County. The ‘Registry’ also provides a more accurate view of social housing needs in Hastings County.

Housing Available In Hastings County Hastings County Housing Services directly owns and manages 1,473 social housing units - 870 senior, 563 family units and 40 supportive housing units. Hastings County Housing Services also administers funds to approximately 160 rent supplement units and 233 monthly housing allowances. Units for seniors are spread across Hastings County. Family units are located in Belleville, Deseronto and Quinte West.

Hastings County Housing Services oversees the administration of 15 different non-profit and cooperative housing corporations with a total of 851 units. Units are located throughout various locations within Hastings County.

Eligibility Applicants must be 16 years of age or older, and must be a Canadian citizen or have a Landed Immigrant status. Once on the Hastings County Social Housing Registry waiting list, applicants will be selected for housing based on the date of the application. Special consideration is given to applicants if they are being abused and are in fear of their lives or their children’s lives, if they are homeless or if they are unable to reside in their current residence due to a medical condition.

5 Applications Available in Hastings County Applicants can apply by calling the Intake Access Centre at 613-771-9630 or 1-866-414-0300 during regular business hours Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Applicants may also ask for an application by mail, telephone or they can print one from the Hastings County website at hastingscounty.com.

Rent People living in subsidized housing pay approximately 30% of their total household income towards rent. Households on a fixed income such as Ontario Works, or Ontario Disability Support Program pay according to provincially mandated scales.

New Affordable Housing Hastings County Housing Services is responsible for encouraging the creation and development of new affordable housing in Hastings County. This includes new non-profit housing, new affordable rental housing and new affordable housing for purchase.

Bancroft Bible Chapel houses both rent geared-to-income and market rent applicants who are able to live independently with or without minimum outside assistance. Applicants must be a minimum of 65 years of age to apply.

York River Heights has market rent units and participates in the Hastings County rent supplement program. Applicants must be 65 years of age or older and be capable of independent living with minimum or no assistance.

North Hastings Non-Profit Housing Corporation has a community comprised of 57 homes in a mix of families, singles and seniors in both rent geared-to-income and market rent units.

Unit sizes include one, two and three bedrooms. Four units (one and two bedrooms only) are modified. The units are located within walking distance of all local conveniences.

Thurlow Non-Profit Housing has 21 seniors apartments located in Thurlow Ward. (formerly Foxboro). Applicants must be 55 years of age or older to apply.

There are 14 one-bedroom and 7 two-bedroom apartments. One of each size unit is modified. Both market and geared-to-income rents are available at Thurlow Housing Non-Profit.

19 Special Needs Housing

Cheshire Homes offers rent supplements through Hastings County for those with physical disabilities. There are support services, including tenant care, available within the home. Only those with disabilities are considered for tenancy.

This residence has shared accommodations. There are 9 bedrooms with a shared living space.

20 Supportive Housing - Home For Good

Home for Good Supportive Housing offers affordable housing for chronically homeless households who are receiving support services from participating agencies. Applicants are selected through the agency and must meet the eligibility requirements for residing in social housing.

490 Sidney Street, Belleville

This residence has 40 supportive housing units which are occupied by Addictions and Mental Health Services HPE – 20 units, Belleville & Quinte West Community Health Centre – 5 units, Enrichment Centre for Mental Health – 5 units, John Howard Society – 4 units, and Pathways to Independence – 6 units. Each agency provides on-site support to its residents. Rents are subsidized by a flat rate housing allowance.

This 44 unit townhouse complex consists of 14 two-bedroom, 22 three- bedroom, 3 four-bedroom and 4 five-bedroom units. It also has a two- bedroom modified unit.

2-52 Elgin Street, 2-34 Tripp Ave and 271-291 West Moira Street

These townhouses consist of 58 units, with 16 two-bedroom, 31 three- bedroom, 7 four-bedroom and 3 five-bedroom units. It also has a two- bedroom modified unit.

This 59-unit townhouse complex provides 38 two-bedroom and 21 three- bedroom two-story units. 4 of the units are modified.

Janlyn Crescent

These 8 family units are all three-bedroom two-story units. They are located in Belleville’s east end.

There are 22 single detached houses at various locations throughout the City of Belleville. There are three-bedroom, four-bedroom and five-bedroom units. The photos below are a sample of these units.
