Bloomsburg University, a member of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, is a four-year coeducational public university founded in 1839. John Stutzman begins his fi fth season as head coach of the Bloomsburg Univer- sity wrestling team in 2009-10. Under his tutelage, he has qualifi ed 18 wrestlers for the NCAA Division I Cham- pionships and produced the school’s fi rst set of consecutive All-Americans since the 1988-89 seasons, while recording 40 dual meet victories. He was named the 2007 EWL Coach of the Year, earned national recognition as a team, produced the 2007 EWL/PSAC Freshman of the Year as well as the 2009 EWL tournament’s outstanding wrestler. Prior to becoming Bloomsburg University’s head wrestling coach, he was an as- sistant coach for seven years at the Division I level. During those seven seasons, Stutzman worked at three very successful universities: the University at Buff alo, Northern Illinois University and Bloomsburg. Th roughout that time, he assisted in the development and maturation of six conference champions, 22 Division I NCAA qualifi ers, and two Division I All-Americans. He has recruited six classes that have been ranked in the top 25 nation- ally. In addition to his college coaching duties, Stutzman has coached with the New York Athletic Club at the 2004 and 2008 USA Olympic Freestyle Trials, as well as the 2006, 2007, and the 2009 World Team Trials. During this time, I coached fi ve Th ree World Team Trials participants, Two Olympic Team Trials participants, and one USA National Team Member. He was also an assistant wrestling coach for the 2009 NWCA All-American tour in Seoul, South Korea. and was the assistant wrestling coach for Team USA for the University Team in Poland in 2009. During the 2004-05 season, he helped coach six Bloomsburg NCAA quali- fi ers and helped lead the team to a 10-win season. Th e Huskies won their fi rst Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference PSAC Championship since 1990, recording the school’s 14th title in school history. Bloomsburg had two PSAC Championships in 2005, and also three EWL title-winners. Th at season, Stutzman also helped the Huskies to their fi rst win over Edinboro since 1993. At Northern Illinois from 2000-2002, Stutzman coached All-American Scott Owen as well as helping lead the squad to a second-place fi nish at the Mid- American Conference Championships. From 1998-2000, Stutzman served as the assistant coach at Buff alo help- ing coach the school’s fi rst Mid-American Conference champion. Buff alo qualifi ed six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships in those three seasons and compiled a 19-10-2 record. A 1998 graduate of the University of Buff alo, Stutzman was 95-27 in a three-year career for the Bulls and left as the school’s all-time leader in career wins. His best year for the Bulls was the 1996-97 season when he posted a mark of 35-4. He was a three-time East Coast Wrestling Association place winner and a two-time alter- nate for the Division I champi- YEAR-BY-YEAR RECORD onships. Stutzman, a native of New Castle, Del., is married to the former Annette Hasseman. Scott Owen begins his second season as an assistant wrestling coach at Bloomsburg. In his fi rst year at Bloomsburg Owen helped coach four NCAA qualifi ers and one All-American in Matt Moley. Owen came to Bloomsburg from the United States Naval Academy where he spent three seasons as an assistant with the Middies helping send 16 wrestlers to the NCAA Champion- ships while also helping produce four All-Americans and two, top-20 fi nishes at the NCAA Championships. Prior to his time at Navy, Owen worked at his alma mater Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill., where he helped lead the Huskies to national recognition on the mats. He served as a vol- unteer and assistant coach at the MAC school from 2004-05, where he helped coach seven NCAA Championship qualifi ers and one NCAA Finalist. As a member of the New York Athletic Club, Owen was a three-time Freestyle World Team Trials qualifi er, a US Open place winner and was ranked as high as third in the country at 74 kilograms. He placed in numerous international tournaments including a fi fth place showing at the 2007 Ivan Yariguine International held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, consid- ered one of the toughest tournaments in the world. He also won the Sunkist International Open earlier that season. As a collegiate wrestler at Northern Illinois, Owen was a four-time NCAA qualifi er and two-time All-American, placing fi fth at 157 pounds in 2002 and 2003. He was the nation’s top-ranked wrestler during the 2002-03 season and was a three-time Mid-American Conference champion. He ended his career as the all-time wins leader in Northern Illinois history and is just one of three Northern Illinois wrestlers to fi nish his career as a two-time All-American. Before wrestling at Northern Illinois, Owen was a three-time New Mexico state champion and was a two-time member of the ASICS All-American Team in 1996 and 1997. He also excelled in the classroom, where he graduated for NIU with a 3.63 GPA in biological sciences with an emphasis in pre-med and a minor in chemistry. He was a two-time member of the NWCA First-team Academic All-America Team and was named to the Verizon / CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team in 2002. He was a four-time Dean’s List honoree and a fi ve-time Northern Illinois Victory Scholar, which is awarded to athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher. He earned his master’s degree in sport management from Northern Illinois in December of 2007. Owen was married in September of 2009 to the former Brenda Renae Kiecker. Th e couple resides in Bloomsburg.

Mike Sees • Volunteer Assistant Mike Sees begins his fi rst season as a volunteer assiatnt coach with the Huskies. A former four-year standout for the Huskies, Sees was named the 2007-08 Robert B. Redman Award as the top Senior Male Athlete at Bloomsburg. As a senior Sees posted a mark of 35-5 for the Huskies and was ranked in the top-10 of his weight class most of the year. He led the Huskies in wins by major decision with 13 and in technical falls with eight. Sees won two Eastern Wrestling League titles in his career to go along with his three PSAC championships. He also made four trips to the NCAA Division I National Championships and fi nished his career with a mark of 113-21, seventh best all-time in history.
