A young but battle-tested Edinboro squad seeks to defend its EWL title and their fourth in the last five years. A year ago, Edinboro won its 15th EWL title under head coach Tim Flynn, finishing with 121.5 points. Rider was second with 75 points. In 2014, the Fighting Scots claimed their first crown since 2010, after finishing second the previous two years. Before Pittsburgh won three straight EWL championships from 2011-13, Edinboro had won 2018 EWL Championships eight straight EWL championships and 12 in 13 years. } The 2018 EWL Championships will once again have seven teams vying for the title -- Edinboro, Saturday, March 3 Bloomsburg, Clarion, Cleveland State, George Mason, Lock Haven and Rider. Session 1 – 10 a.m. } Edinboro won six individual titles a year ago, with four EWL champions returning to the lineup this Round 1 – Championship First Round year. Eight wrestlers claimed bids to the NCAA Division I National Championships last year. Austin Round 2 – Semi-Finals & Consolation First Round Matthews returns seeking his third EWL championship. Sean Russell is seeking his third EWL title at Round 3 -- Consolation Semifinals 125 lbs. after winning the title in 2016 and 2017. Korbin Myers (133 lbs.), Ty Schoffstall (174 lbs.), and Session 2 – 6 p.m. Billy Miller (285 lbs.) all won their first EWL title a year ago. Hall of Fame Ceremony } Seven 2017 champions return to defend their crowns. Rider’s Chad Walsh, who won at 165 lbs. a Parade of Champions year ago, and was the 157 lb. champion in 2016, looks for his third EWL title. Fellow Bronc BJ Clagon Round 3 – Finals & Consolation Finals and Lock Haven’s Ronnie Perry will look to win their second EWL titles. Record at Edinboro: 223-95-5, 21st year } The Fighting Scots finished third at the 2017 PSAC Championships in December. Lock Haven won the Career Record: 223-95-5, 21st year title with 156 points. Twitter: @BoroAthletics Facebook: EdinboroUniversityAthletics Boro Bits 2016-17 in Review 2016-17 Dual Record: 9-6 NCAA ANNOUNCES QUALIFIER ALLOCATIONS FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016-17 EWL Record: 6-0 The NCAA has announced the qualifier allocations for the NCAA Division I National Championships. 2016-17 NCAA Finish: 20th The Eastern Wrestling League will receive 18 automatic qualifiers. That includes four at 141 lbs., two Lettermen Returning/Lost: 9/3 at 125, 157, 165, 184, and 285 lbs., and one at 133, 149, 174, and 197 lbs. NCAA tournament spots for NCAA Qualifiers Returning/Lost: 6/2 each qualifying weight will be awarded based solely on place-finish. Edinboro has five wrestlers NCAA Qualifiers Returning: showing up in the rankings coaches and/or RPI rankings. Sean Russell is the highest-ranked Fighting 125 -- Sean Russell (2016 -- DNP; 2017 -- 7th) 133 -- Korbin Myers (2017 -- DNP) Scot, sitting in 11th place in both the coaches poll and RPI rankings at 125 lbs. Korbin Myers is 13th in 165 -- Austin Matthews (2014 DNP; 2016 -- DNP; the RPI rankings while 16th in the coaches poll at 133 lbs. At heavyweight, Billy Miller is 16th in the 2017 --DNP) coaches poll, but not ranked in the RPI rankings. After all of the qualifying events have concluded, 174 -- Ty Schoffstall (2017 -- DNP) the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet in-person to select the remaining 47 at-large 184 -- Dakota Geer (2017 -- DNP) qualifiers, which will be announced on March 6.
