Based on the Hit Film, This Hilarious New Musical Follows Dewey Finn, A
Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. This high-octane smash features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, all the original songs from the movie and musical theater’s first-ever kids rock band playing their instruments live on stage. LOCAL DETAILS: Venue: Fox Cities Performing Arts Center – Thrivent Financial Hall Dates: April 24-29, 2018 Times: Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. TICKET INFORMATION: Tickets for School of Rock are available now to Season Ticket Holders of the Kimberly-Clark Broadway Across America - Fox Cities Series. Actors must be available for evening and weekend rehearsals, and must have an enthusiasm for flexibility as we navigate an ever-changing COVID environment. This is an unpaid, volunteer opportunity that pays dividends in loving community and fun. Individuals with sign language experience encouraged to audition. A note from the director: The rehearsal process for this show will consist of a hybrid experience including virtual rehearsals and masked in-person rehearsals. This production will include youth 7 – 11 years old who cannot be vaccinated due to their age. Considering our commitment to creating a safe community by following CDC recommendations, we are requiring that all actors over the age of 12 be vaccinated. There are no exceptions to this rule, and once cast, Near West Theatre will require proof of vaccination. -

EDUCATOR’S SHOW GUIDE ABOUT THE CREATORS General Info Lyricist: Glenn Slater Glenn Slater was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Original Score for the Broadway version of The Little Mermaid in 2008, his second Tony nomination for Sister Act in 2011, and his third Tony nomination for School of Rock in 2016. DEAR EDUCATORS, Slater wrote the lyrics for the Off-Broadway stage revue New Yorkers produced by the Manhattan Theatre Wayne State University is proud to produce plays Club in 2001. He has written lyrics for six editions of Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus. for young people’s enjoyment and to actively His first work with Alan Menken was writing the lyrics for the film Home on the Range in 2004 and the explore the beauty, diversity, complexity and stage production Sister Act the Musical (2006). He wrote the lyrics for the stage adaptation of Disney’s The challenges of the world around them through the Little Mermaid. He has also composed the lyrics and co-wrote the book for the major Andrew Lloyd Webber dramatic arts. As he tries to locate her, Deloris begins to chafe at the constraints of convent life and, much to the dismay and disapproval of Mother Superior, has a liberating influence on the convent’s choir and other nuns. The success of the choir, under Deloris’s direction, brings publicity and much-needed financial support to the convent; but it also alerts Shank about Deloris’s whereabouts. As Shank and his goons close in on the convent, it looks like only a miracle will save Deloris. -
