The venue Kalliyoor panchayat is a very picturesque place situated on the banks of Vellayani Lake the largest freshwater lake in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. It is about 12 km from the central railway station Thiruvananthapuram and 7 km from Kovalam beach, the world famous tourist destinantion. Backwater tourism is catching up in this mostly agrarian village with banana cultivation topping the list. This is also home to the nationally renowned ‘College of Agriculture’, Vellayani, Kerala Agricultural University. The venue of the festival is adjacent to Vellayani Devi Temple situated on the banks of Vellayani Lake which is a highly revered shrine in Kerala said to be built in the 14th century AD.
