RP PROVINCE NEWSLETTER May-June 2020 Issue Vol. 56 No. 3 By Fr. Melanio Michael Reyes, CICM Provincial Councillor INTRODUCTION At this moment, in the different parts of the world, people continue to struggle between life and death as the coronavirus lingers, with its deadly threat and disturbing impact to lives. Overnight, this pandemic brought to a halt our normal lives, disrupted our plans and caused anxiety and fear. At the height of the lockdown many people everywhere re- awakened to God and prayer as they experienced their utter helplessness. It made a basic reality more obvious: we are not in full control of our lives. We are fragile as human beings and vulnerable to death. While we have learned to adapt to the changes required of us to stop the spread of the virus, coming slowly out of quarantine, we realize that we have been changed after having lived through this experience of crisis. A change in our behaviors has caused deeper changes in us as individuals. Is it also possible that we as CICM Missionaries change more profoundly because of our collective experience of living through this crisis? The changes in behaviors brought by the pandemic also remind us about some dispositions and attitudes that are indispensable to our religious missionary life. I would like to highlight some of these dispositions and attitudes while reflecting on some general needed practices that we have adapted during this pandemic.
