Saban Acquires Leading Lifestyle Company Paul Frank Industries Saban Brands To Manage Paul Frank Brand and Global Licensing Program Company Also Plans To Develop Content and Media Opportunities Based On World-Famous Characters, Including The Iconic Monkey, Julius LOS ANGELES, CA. (August 17, 2010) – Saban Capital Group, Inc. announced today that its affiliate has acquired renowned lifestyle company Paul Frank Industries (PFI) including all company assets and intellectual property, an extensive design portfolio including more than 150 characters, headlined by the omnipresent monkey Julius. Saban Brands, an affiliate of Saban Capital Group, Inc., will be responsible for the management of the company’s business strategy moving forward, while creative operations will remain based in PFI’s current headquarters in Costa Mesa, California. PFI marks the second acquisition, in the $500 million fund for Saban Brands, which was created to manage and license entertainment properties and consumer brands across media and consumer platforms throughout the world. The first property, the Power Rangers franchise, was announced in early May. The company will continue to acquire additional brands going forward. In conjunction with the acquisition, Saban Brands also has announced plans to support the Paul Frank brand with new content and media strategies incorporating the Paul Frank characters. The property will be showcased at Brand Licensing Europe in September. “Paul Frank Industries is one of the world’s leading lifestyle properties and we are delighted to add it to our stable of brands,” said Haim Saban, chairman and chief executive officer, Saban Capital Group, Inc. “Paul Frank Industries has established a unique image that resonates with a wide variety of consumers and we look forward to building on its global success.” “This acquisition ties into Saban’s strategy of building a portfolio of compelling global properties that touch consumers’ lives through strategic licensing partnerships,” stated Elie Dekel, President of Saban Brands. -

La labor de un productor de cine puede conllevar cierto control sobre las diversas atribuciones de una película, pero a menudo es poco más que aportar el dinero y los medios que la hacen posible sin entrar mucho en los aspectos creativos de la misma como el guión o la dirección. Es por este motivo que no me voy a detener en la tarea de Spielberg como productor más allá de señalar sus dos productoras de cine y algunas de sus producciones o coproducciones a modo de ejemplo, para complementar el vistazo a la enorme influencia de Spielberg en el mundo cinematográfico: En 1981 creó la productora de cine “Amblin Entertainment” junto con Kathleen Kenndy y Frank Marshall. El logo de esta productora pasaría a ser la famosa silueta de la bicicleta con luna llena de fondo de “ET”, la primera producción de la firma dirigida por Spielberg. Otras películas destacadas con participación de esta productora y no dirigidas por Spielberg son “Gremlins”, “Los Goonies”, “Regreso al futuro”, “Esta casa es una ruina”, “Fievel y el nuevo mundo”, “¿Quién engañó a Roger Rabbit?”, “En busca del Valle Encantado”, “Los picapiedra”, “Casper”, “Men in balck”, “Banderas de nuestros padres” & “Cartas desde Iwo Jima” o las series de televisión “Cuentos asombrosos” y “Urgencias” entre muchas otras películas y series. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AS THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF CONTENT HAVE INCREASED in what is widely regarded as television’s second Golden Age, so have employment opportunities for the talented men and women who create that programming. And as our industry, and the content we produce, have become more relevant, so has the relevance of the Television Academy increased as an essential resource for television professionals. In 2015, this was reflected in the steady rise in our membership — surpassing 20,000 for the first time in our history — as well as the expanding slate of Academy-sponsored activities and the heightened attention paid to such high-profile events as the Television Academy Honors and, of course, the Creative Arts Awards and the Emmy Awards. Navigating an industry in the midst of such profound change is both exciting and, at times, a bit daunting. Reimagined models of production and distribution — along with technological innovations and the emergence of new over-the-top platforms — have led to a seemingly endless surge of creativity, and an array of viewing options. As the leading membership organization for television professionals and home to the industry’s most prestigious award, the Academy is committed to remaining at the vanguard of all aspects of television. Toward that end, we are always evaluating our own practices in order to stay ahead of industry changes, and we are proud to guide the conversation for television’s future generations. -

A part of the outer retaining wall of the Second Temple that was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, it is the place closest to the ancient Holy of Holies, where only the Kohanim— —Jewish priests were allowed access. When Israel gained independence in 1948, Jordan controlled the Western Wall and all of the Old City of Jerusalem; the city was reunified in the 1967 Six-Day War. The Western Wall is considered an Orthodox synagogue by Israeli authorities, with separate prayer spaces for men and women. A mixed egalitarian prayer area operates along a nearby section of the Temple’s retaining wall, raising to the forefront contemporary ideas of religious expression—a prime example of how Israel navigates between past and present. There’s no other place that feels more authentically Israeli than a shuk on Friday afternoon, as seemingly everyone shops for Shabbat. Drawn by the freshness and variety of produce, Israelis and tourists alike flock to the shuk, turning it into a microcosm of the country. Shuks in smaller cities and towns operate just one day per week, while larger markets often play a key role in the city’s cultural life. By identifying the development of television-specific archives and collecting areas in the 1950s to the 1970s, the dissertation contributes to television studies, specifically pointing out how television materials were conceived as cultural and historical materials “worthy” of preservation and academic study. -

In his four-decade career, Spielberg has been admired for making blockbusters such as Jaws (1975), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Indiana Jones series (1981, 1984, 1989, 2008), Schindler’s List (1993), Jurassic Park series (1993, 1997, 2001, 2015), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Lincoln (2012) and many other smash hits. Spielberg’s life as a filmmaker has been so brilliant that it looks like no one believes that there was any moment he spent at the bottom of the ladder in the movie industry. Much to the surprise of the skeptics, Spielberg was once just another director at Universal Television for the first couple years after launching himself into the cinema making world. Learning how to make good movies by trial and error, Spielberg made a breakthrough with his second feature-length telefilm Duel (1971) at the age of 25 and advanced into the big screen, where he would direct and produce more than 100 movies, including many great hits and some commercial or critical failures, in the next 40-something years. -

The dramas chosen, according to NBC, were because they were considered “good drama” regardless of the name of the author, the fame of the play, etc. In many instances, original radio plays were used on the series. Director of production and author of some of the original radio plays was Harry W. Junkin. The cast varied according to the script needs but New York radio actors and actresses were used, some of them experienced and others chosen from the best in radio acting newcomers. The overall production for the series was under the supervision of Richard McDonagh, NBC Script Manager. Musical bridges were by Roy Shields and his Orchestra. The announcer was Robert Warren. Series One: July 3, 1948 to September 25, 1948. Broadcast Saturdays from 10:00 – 10:30 pm EST July 3, 1948 Premiere “Long Distance” Writer: Harry W. Junkin. A drama of suspense in which a young wife has thirty minutes to get through a long distance telephone call that will save her husband from the electric chair.
