The capital of Croatia is Zagreb. Croatia boasts countless natural and cultural resources. There are even 8 National Parks, 11 Nature Parks and 7 monuments that have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Due to its location, the climate in Croatia is divided into two zones - moderately continental and mediterranean climate. Average summer temperatures in Croatia vary between 23 and 26 ° C in the coastal region and between 20 and 22 ° C in the continental part. In winter, average temperatures range between 0 and -2 ° C and in the coastal area between 4 and 6 ° C, and in the southern part more than 6 ° C. Although Croatia has been a member of the European Union since 1 July 2013, the Croatian currency is still the Croatian kuna. PLACES YOU WILL VISIT • Zadar (host city) is a town in northern Dalmatia and the center of Zadar County. It has a population of about 75,000. The city center is located on a peninsula that has been the target of numerous invaders over the centuries, repeatedly destroyed and robbed. Lush history has left many significant monuments that still adorn the city today. One of the most recognizable is certainly the church of St. Donat from the 9th century because of its specific cylindrical shape. Next to the church is the ancient Forum, the largest on the eastern side of the Adriatic. Another important church is the Zadar Cathedral of Sv. Stošije which is also the largest Dalmatian cathedral. Of the modern attractions stand out the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun. • Velebit Mountain is the longest mountain range in Croatia. It extends along the Velebit Channel and separates Lika from the coastal Croatia. The entire area of the mountain is protected as a nature park, and Northern Velebit and Paklenica, which are part of the mountain range, have been designated as National Parks. The highest peak of the mountain is Vaganski vrh. • National Park Plitvice Lakes is the most famous and oldest national park in Croatia. In 1949 it was proclaimed the first national park in Croatia, and due to its beauty and particularities of travertine barrier formation, in 1979 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. With its 7 travertine waterfalls, is the Krka River a natural and karst phenomenon. The most famous are Skradinski Buk, Roški Waterfall and Manojlovac Waterfall. Beside the waterfalls, in the National Park is also worth visiting the islet of Visovac, which is located on Lake Visovac, and since 1445 a Franciscan monastery and the Church of Our Lady of Visovac have been located on the island. • Klis is a settlement in the hinterland of Split, which was built at the foot of the medieval fortress by which this settlement is famous. Klis Fortress is one of the most famous forts in Croatia as well as one of the most complete examples of fortification architecture in Croatia. Because of its strategic location, it was often the site of numerous confrontations and a synonym for Croatian impendance during the time of Osmans. More recently, the fort is known as the city of Meereen from the series "Game of Thrones". • Split is the largest Dalmatian city known for its rich cultural heritage and monuments, and especially for the Diocletian's Palace that the Emperor built to spend his last days there. The Palace is one of the best preserved monuments of Roman architecture in the world, which, together with the historic center of Split, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. • Trogir is situated on an islet between the island of Čiovo and the mainland and they are connected by a stone bridge. It is considered the best preserved Romanesque-Gothic city. The whole city is full of cultural and historical monuments, which is why it is also called a museum city. The most famous are the Cathedral of St. Lawrence with its unique portal, well preserved walls, towers and city gates, as well as beautiful city palaces, numerous churches and monasteries. The city was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. • Nin is a small town near Zadar. Its old town is located on a small island connected to the mainland by two stone bridges. Nin is the oldest croatian royal city. In Nin is situated the smallest cathedral in the world, the church of St. Crisis. Nin is also recognizable for its medicinal mud that was used in Roman times, but also for the production of salt, which also dates back to Roman times. CONTENT OF ARRANGEMENT The content of the package includes in the price all that is required to make the trip. Tickets to certain facilities are not included because of various personal religious / cultural reasons, etc. This you choose on the spot, and pay in cash in Croatian Kuna or with a card where possible. TRANSPORT Transport is provided by a air-conditioned high-class minibus . The maximum number of passengers is 12. During the journey you will travel a total of about 1300 kilometers.     Dubrovnik Annals 20 (2016): pp. 7-51 7 Original paper UDC 739.1.046(497.5Dubrovnik) DOI: http://doi.org/10.21857/mnlqgcjejy DECONSTRUCTING THE MYTH OF BYZANTINE CROWN: THE HEAD RELIQUARY OF SAINT BLAISE IN DUBROVNIK ANA MUNK ABSTRACT: The head reliquary of Saint Blaise in Dubrovnik, made in 1694 by the Venetian goldsmith Francesco Ferro, has long been thought to replicate an earlier version that was mentioned in the 1335 inventory of Dubrovnik cathedral. The article examines the history of the head relic and the assumption that it may have replicated or connoted a shape of the Byzantine imperial crown, a kamelaukion. From the available evidence such reading has been rejected. Instead, it is proposed that it resembled the dome-shaped reliquary such as that of Saint James in Zadar dated to the end of the eleventh or beginning of the twelfth century. Furthermore, it is proposed that group I enamels that adorn the reliquary were not made in Constantinople, but in Dubrovnik between 1164 and 1180, given that they show a number of non-Byzantine stylistic and iconographical features and inscriptions in Beneventan script incompatible with enamel production in Constantinople. Tomas DOI: 10.1484/J.HAM.5.113721 Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb Ivana Lučića 3, 10 000 Zagreb, Croatia The monastery of St. Chrysogonus in Zadar was one of the most notable Benedictine abbeys on the eastern Adriatic coast. The monastery was first mentioned in the second half of the tenth century, but there is very little knowledge about the earliest (Benedictine) building. The present- day church of St. Chrysogonus, consecrated in 1175, is a monumental three-nave basilica and one of the most significant Romanesque religious monuments in the eastern Adriatic. One of the aims of the paper is to discuss the problem of the first church and monastery of St. Chrysogonus - therefore special attention will be given to the interpretation of Early Christian and Early Medieval fragments of liturgical furnishings and architectural decoration found in the well-preserved Romanesque monument. Attention will also be focused on the Romanesque church, especially on the interpretation of its architecture and surviving remains of architectural sculpture, and architectural influences that has always been in the centre of scientific interest. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing knowledge of the Benedictine monastery in Zadar, which will contribute to a better understanding of Benedictine (medieval) monuments of the eastern Adriatic coast and the adjacent area.
