Our target demographic are intermediate skaters, who have at least 1-5 years of skating experience. During our user research, we found out that learning how to skate can be significantly challenging for beginners. There are two aspects of learning that we uncovered that is relevant for skating: (a) learning by doing and (b) play. “Learning by doing” refers to the practice of trial-and-error, repetition and “feel” (e.g., experiencing the equipment) and watching others. “Play” refers to the feelings of “adrenaline rush”, control, “intrinsic interest” [1] and the creative process of performing tricks and exploiting affordances in their immediate environments. After weighing three design alternatives, our group decided to proceed with the concept “MusiSkate”, a skateboard that provides real-time musical feedback to pre-defined ​ skating movements. This solution has the advantage of enhancing the user experience of skating through rich audio feedback, something that is demonstrated in other research [2].

    MEMORANDUM – JABSOM Skateboard, Bicycle and Surfboard Policy The University has an obligation to provide a safe environment and protect University property. JABSOM recognizes that students, faculty, and staff use a variety of means of transportation on campus. Although personal choice is important, JABSOM must consider the safety and well‐being of the campus community and our visitors as well as JABSOM property. Activities that include skateboarding may cause damage to sidewalks. In addition, there is a potential for injury to both the person doing the activity and the public at large. In an effort to balance our concern for community safety and the ability to use these means of transportation, the following policy applies to the use of bicycles and skateboards on campus (policies applicable to skateboards apply to roller‐skates and in‐line skates). Skateboarding, conducted in a reckless manner can be dangerous and presents a safety issue for pedestrians, as well as the skate boarder. Skateboarding has also caused significant damage to benches, walls, steps, curbs, and receptacles around campus. Nevertheless, skateboarding, when good judgment is exercised is an effective means to travel in urban areas. Skateboard (as well as roller skates and rollerblades) and bicycle use on JABSOM premises is allowed. However, it is the person on the skateboard or bicycle that is responsible for avoiding pedestrians and not the other way around. The use of these items, involves an assumption of personal risk. This study aimed to explore the state-of-the-art for inertial measurement unit (IMU) use in skateboarding trick detection, and to develop new classification methods using supervised machine learning and artificial neural networks (ANN).Methods: State-of-the-art knowledge regarding motion detection in skateboarding was used to generate 543 artificial acceleration signals through signal modeling, corresponding to 181 flat ground tricks divided into five classes (NOLLIE, NSHOV, FLIP, SHOV, OLLIE). The classifier consisted of a multilayer feed-forward neural network created with three layers and a supervised learning algorithm (backpropagation). Results: The use of ANNs trained specifically for each measured axis of acceleration resulted in error percentages inferior to 0.05%, with a computational efficiency that makes real-time application possible.

    NGOC League 2021 Cheltenham Urban Race Level: D (Local) Sunday 23rd May 2021 NGOC are pleased to invite you to an urban orienteering race that explores Regency Cheltenham’s town centre and leafy Pittville Park. We’ll have courses suitable for everyone of all ages, from absolute beginners to experienced orienteers: Adult courses of 4 different lengths that venture out into the streets and alleys of the town Two traffic-free junior courses around Pittville Park Directions and Assembly will be in Pittville Park, on the grass in front of the Pittville Pump Room, very Parking close to the lake. The map below shows assembly location and parking options. There will be no orienteering signs, so please use this map to find your way! Click here for Google map showing parking alternatives and assembly There are several parking alternatives, but as these are shared with the public, there may not be spaces at all of them. In order of proximity, these are: 1. The free car park directly behind the Pump Room, about 200m from assembly. Post Code GL52 3JE. (Green route shown on the map) 2. Several roads close to the park offer free parking for up to 4 hours. These are located to the south and south-east of assembly and include Pittville Lawn and Albert Rd. If parking here, you are likely to be 200-400m away. (Yellow ones on map) 3. The huge free car park at Cheltenham Racecourse Park & Ride.
