Your HCA-1500A was designed by renowned circuit designer John Curl to meet or surpass the stringent standards required by Lucasfilm for use in THX Home Cinema systems. Each precision component within your HCA-1500A is carefully selected for optimum sound quality on even the most challenging music and film soundtracks. Parasound amplifiers have greater operational flexibility and power than most other amplifiers you may have used, so please take a few moments now to read these instructions thoroughly so you may fully understand the various capabilities of your new Parasound power amplifier. Unpacking Your Amplifier Carefully unpack your amplifier and remove all the enclosed accessories including the remote control and detachable AC cord. Be sure to inspect the unit for any possible shipping damage. If you see any, contact your Parasound Dealer immediately. Be sure to save both cartons and the packing inserts for future transport and always pack the inner carton into a protective outer carton before shipment. Before you proceed, find the serial number located on the rear panel of your unit. Record it here for future reference. ____________________ Installing and Rack Mounting Your Amplifier Place your amplifier away from heat sources such as air ducts or radiators. Always mount the amplifier horizontally and make sure that your cabinet or shelf can support its weight. It is best to provide a separate shelf for your amplifier rather that stacking it directly above or below your other components. The HCA-1500A occupies three rack spaces (5 1/4") into a standard 19 inch equipment rack. Be sure to use heavy duty mounting bolts to and nylon shoulder washers on both sides of the faceplate to avoid scratching the amplifier’s front panel and prevent ground loops. Call Middle Atlantic Products at (201) 839-1011 to obtain information about a wide variety of rack mounting hardware. When mounting equipment into an equipment rack, it is always a good idea to have someone help support the unit while you bolt it to the rack rails. Ventilation Requirements for Your Amplifier To insure safe and reliable operation, it is very important that the amplifier has plenty of ventilation to prevent overheating and automatic shut down from its thermal protection circuitry. Please observe the following ventilation guidelines when installing your Parasound amplifier in a cabinet or other enclosed area: 1) If you are not using a fan, allow at least six inches on each side and above the amplifier, and do not close off the front with a cabinet door or panel. 2) If you are enclosing the amplifier within an equipment cabinet, use a fan to draw in cool air and exhaust warm air. In either case, two vent holes are required: one for intake and one for exhaust. 3) Do not place the amplifier on carpeting that will obstruct the air flow into the bottom of the amplifier chassis and heatsinks. 4) Avoid stacking components. If you do, you must use a fan to circulate the warm air that quickly becomes trapped between them. -4- Making Connections to Your Amplifier Leave the AC cord disconnected before making any signal or speaker connections. When making connections to the amplifier, make sure there is no strain or tension on the input leads, speaker wires, or AC cord that could cause them to pull loose. Input Connections Connect the output of your preamplifier or processor to the right (red) and left (white) channel RCA jacks for stereo operation. For bridged mono operation, use only the right channel input jack and leave the left channel jack disconnected. Output Looping Connections The right (red) and left (white) channel output looping RCA jacks provide you with a convenient way to connect multiple amplifiers together from one source for multi-room/multi-zone applications.

LucasArts and the Design of Successful Adventure Games: The True Secret of Monkey Island by Cameron Warren 5056794 for STS 145 Winter 2003 March 18, 2003 2 The history of computer adventure gaming is a long one, dating back to the first visits of Will Crowther to the Mammoth Caves back in the 1960s and 1970s (Jerz). How then did a wannabe pirate with a preposterous name manage to hijack the original computer game genre, starring in some of the most memorable adventures ever to grace the personal computer? Is it the yearning of game players to participate in swashbuckling adventures? The allure of life as a pirate? A craving to be on the high seas? Strangely enough, the Monkey Island series of games by LucasArts satisfies none of these desires; it manages to keep the attention of gamers through an admirable mix of humorous dialogue and inventive puzzles. The strength of this formula has allowed the Monkey Island series, along with the other varied adventure game offerings from LucasArts, to remain a viable alternative in a computer game marketplace increasingly filled with big- budget first-person shooters and real-time strategy games. Indeed, the LucasArts adventure games are the last stronghold of adventure gaming in America. What has allowed LucasArts to create games that continue to be successful in a genre that has floundered so much in recent years? The solution to this problem is found through examining the history of Monkey Island. LucasArts’ secret to success is the combination of tradition and evolution. With each successive title, Monkey Island has made significant strides in technology, while at the same time staying true to a basic gameplay formula.

Abstracts English While existing theories of romance (in particular, those formulated by Northrop Frye and Fredric Jameson) accurately characterize this literary mode as a highly politicized example of art, this thesis contends that the political nature of romance is broader and more complex than discussed so far. In order to offer a new and comprehensive political theory of romance, this work proposes a comparison between two historically and culturally diverse examples of romance, that is Matteo Maria Boiardo’s chivalric poem Inamoramento de Orlando and George Lucas’ space opera film Star Wars.

  • Monkey Island I, II
Case History Prospectus: The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge Kang Hyun Han [email protected] Professor Lowood STS 145: The History of Computer Game Design February 12, 2002 Significance of This Topic LucasArts ruled the adventure game market in the early 1990’s. Titles such as The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge defined the genre with their simple point-and-click interface and humorous engrossing game world, setting the standard for countless games to follow. The success of these two games owe much to the innovation and imagination fostered by the unique design process at LucasArts and its business strategies; however, its recent sequels, The Curse of Monkey Island and The Escape from Monkey Island, did not reach the classic status of their previous installments. In addition, many similar games that imitated the first two games of the series couldn’t match their success either. Several factors have contributed to the success of the first two installments: groundbreaking interface, the state of the industry at the time, highly polished look and feel, and great humor. In the case study, I plan to describe the reasons that made the first two games set apart from the rest. Background Information In the early years, adventure games were text only. Using text for input and output, the player could look at objects to get their description, take objects and use them, and solve puzzles. Infocom produced many popular hits, such as the Zork series. In the mid 1980’s, a young Californian couple, Ken and Roberta Williams, founded Sierra-On-Line and produced graphical adventure games that allowed the player to move his character in a virtual graphic world.

  • The Hollywood Cinema Industry's Coming of Digital Age: The
The Hollywood Cinema Industry’s Coming of Digital Age: the Digitisation of Visual Effects, 1977-1999 Volume I Rama Venkatasawmy BA (Hons) Murdoch This thesis is presented for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Murdoch University 2010 I declare that this thesis is my own account of my research and contains as its main content work which has not previously been submitted for a degree at any tertiary education institution. -------------------------------- Rama Venkatasawmy Abstract By 1902, Georges Méliès’s Le Voyage Dans La Lune had already articulated a pivotal function for visual effects or VFX in the cinema. It enabled the visual realisation of concepts and ideas that would otherwise have been, in practical and logistical terms, too risky, expensive or plain impossible to capture, re-present and reproduce on film according to so-called “conventional” motion-picture recording techniques and devices. Since then, VFX – in conjunction with their respective techno-visual means of re-production – have gradually become utterly indispensable to the array of practices, techniques and tools commonly used in filmmaking as such. For the Hollywood cinema industry, comprehensive VFX applications have not only motivated the expansion of commercial filmmaking praxis. They have also influenced the evolution of viewing pleasures and spectatorship experiences. Following the digitisation of their associated technologies, VFX have been responsible for multiplying the strategies of re-presentation and story-telling as well as extending the range of stories that can potentially be told on screen. By the same token, the visual standards of the Hollywood film’s production and exhibition have been growing in sophistication.

  • Star Wars: a Critical Analysis 1
Running head: STAR WARS: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS 1 Star Wars: A Critical Analysis Karen McCain Southern New Hampshire University Popular Culture Professor Lovejoy December 15, 2019 STAR WARS: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS 2 Star Wars: A Critical Analysis Star Wars Final Project Notes The original Star Wars trilogy of films by George Lucas known as Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi appeared on movie screens in 1977, 1980, and 1983, respectively(Lucasfilm, 1977)(Lucasfilm, 1980)(Lucasfilm, 1983). It is the traditional story of the heroes’ journey. A young farm boy reluctantly becomes the hero of The Resistance in the struggle against the evil Galactic Empire that is endeavoring to rule the galaxy. It’s a morality play. There are lessons of good versus evil or light versus darkness, believing in one’s self, loyalty, faith, trust, and perseverance. It is also a story of forgiveness and redemption. These films have breakoff stories, a series of prequels and sequels, video games, home decor, countless amounts of apparel and merchandise including the beloved “action figure”. There are animated and live-action television shows inspired by the original Star Wars films. This trilogy has been around long enough and has been popular enough to work its way deeply into popular culture. To understand it’s influence better one can employ the use of four different lenses to study it closer. There is the lens of history, the humanities, natural and applied sciences, and the social sciences. Using these different lenses to look at Star Wars’ effect on culture will help us understand it from different angles and much more deeply.
